Greenville’s Arts Weekend Ranked a Top Ten Festival in the Country Greenville’s Arts Weekend recently received a Top Ten ranking in Greg Lawler’s Art Fair Sourcebook for the 2009 Festival. In the Fine Art category, Artisphere placed 6th out

of 600 shows, up from 46th in 2008. In the Contemporary Craft category, Artisphere was ranked 12th out of 600, up from 59th in 2008.

The Sourcebook annually ranks 600 of the top-selling fine arts and crafts festivals across the country based on the net average revenue generated by exhibitors. In 2009, average artist sales at Artisphere were $5,445, while average artist sales at the number one ranking festival in the country, Art in the Square, Belleville, IL, were $7,103.

The 2009 rankings are the highest Artisphere has received in its five-year history. Other top ranking festivals include: Saint Louis Art Fair, St. Louis, MO (2nd), Long’s Park Art & Craft Festival, Lancaster, PA (3rd), Sausalito Art Festival, Sausalito, CA (4th) and Main Street Ft. Worth Arts Festival, Ft. Worth, TX (5th).

Praise from Artisphere’s 2009 participating artists resulted in a record high 682 applications for the 2010 Festival, which will be held May 7-9. Additionally, the Southeast Tourism Society recognized Artisphere as an event not to be missed in 2010 honoring the event with a “Top Twenty Event in the Southeast” designation. “The Greenville community is due a lot of credit for this top ten ranking because it is about more than just Artisphere,” said 2009 Artisphere Board Chairman, Brad Campbell. “It is about our community and our citizens. The arts make a tremendous contribution to our quality of life here. It is a tribute to our community that we supported our

Artisphere’s Apprentice Workshop, gives kids the opportunity to become an artist for a day! In Kidsphere, kids can learn the fine art techniques used by Artisphere Artists by making their own jewelry and hats, splattering paint, and working with paper collage and mosaic bowls. Once the craft activities are complete, kids can go on an art hunt around the Festival to visit artist booths and meet the artists who create jewelry, collage, clothing, and glass. In 2002, the City of Greenville formed a task force with the initiative to develop an open-air downtown farmers’ market for the sale of locally grown farm products, arts, and crafts in order to attract people downtown and provide a resource for the booming residential development taking place.

name for the new event was the “Poinsett Curb Market” in honor of Joel Poinsett, a historical South Carolina figure who was botanist and experimental farmer, but was changed prior to the first market on April 26, 2003 to the “Saturday Market” in order to convey a more casual and fun message. The Saturday Market’s fifth year in 2007 marked a new beginning for the Saturday Market as several changes occurred. First, the market relocated to Main Street to establish more prominence in Downtown Greenville. This new location was ideal, providing ample shade from the magnificent Main Street trees and generating more shoppers from local foot traffic.

MUST SEE PLACES AT THE STADIUM Over the last few years, the Drive has added a variety of features to the stadium to enhance the baseball fan experience. So on your next visit, be sure you take in each of the following features: BI-LO PLAYGROUND

The Bi-Lo Kids Playground, located behind the berm down the left field line, allows young Drive fans to enjoy themselves in the 1,500 square-foot space, equipped with slides and a climbing area. Parents are able to watch the action on the field as well as keep an eye on their children. The play area, which is ADA accessible, also has netted protection to allow for safe play away from any foul balls.

THE COCA-COLA DUGOUT Located at field level, on the first base side of the field, the Coca-Cola Dugout gives fans an “on the field” experience. With it’s unique location, it makes you feel like part of the game being especially close to the action and down in the excitement of the game.

THE UPPER DECK The place to be at West End Field is in the elevated hospitality setting which accommodates up to 50 guests. Located off the end of the suite level on the third base side, the Upper Deck is an open air, private patio that combines all the amenities of a suite with the ambience of West End Field. Just below the Upper Deck will be the Birthday Zone, a location set aside and designated for groups who choose to celebrate a child’s special day.

BOX OFFICE AT FIELD STREET To meet the high demand for Drive single-game tickets, two additional windows were installed to serve customers at the box office. This addition makes it easier for all fans that park at County Square and ride the Drive’s complimentary trolley service to purchase tickets for that night’s game at the Field Street entrance. 14

The Field Street entrance has been changed into Heritage Plaza were fans are able to follow the progress of former Drive members with the Alumni Call-Up Board. Nostalgic images from Greenville’s past are displayed in the plaza as well. As an extension of Heritage Plaza, the concourse also includes a “Walk of Fame” with even more information regarding Greenville’s illustrious baseball past.

THE 300 PLATEAU The 300 Plateau gives groups who want to enjoy a catered outdoor meal at the ballpark the perfect place to dine and socialize at the park. Also available in the picnic area is a setting that features bands and a covered food station for functions. The picnic area is located inside the right field gate, below the popular Spinx 500 Club.

SUITE ENTRY Located on Field Street, just a few steps from the main gate, suite holders are able to skip the lines and board the elevator directly to the suite level. In the enclosed entrance fans are able to relive the Upstate’s illustrious past with a timeline honoring the area’s baseball heritage, photos and other local baseball memorabilia and artifacts.

SPINX 500 CLUB Fans have the opportunity to purchase an array of food and beverage items, including Philly cheese steaks, lemon pepper chicken sandwiches, and barbeque, without missing any action of the game. The bar area, the largest outdoor bar and grill in Greenville, is dressed with the same brick that is used throughout West End Field. The Spinx 500 Club is a fantastic hangout area with it’s four televisions, as well as featured local bands throughout the season.
