the BEST of SCOTLAND meets of the BEST SOUTH. the The bagpipes are wailing, the drums are pounding, and the Celtic thunder can only mean one thing: The Greenville Scottish Games have returned. After seven years of epic growth, the Games have earned a new name that’s big enough to reflect the history of this massive celebration. Gallabrae—where legendary Scottish tradition meets rich Southern heritage.

This year, break out your plaid for three days of the Highlands, with everything from authentic food and crafts to piping and drumming performances. There’ll be a parade, traditional Scottish activities for the wee ones, border collies, highland dancers, and competitions as colorful as your clan’s tartan. Catch the heavy athletics games, where you can watch brawny Scotsmen toss cabers, throw axes,

and send boulders flying. Stomp your feet for some blood-stirring Celtic music at our legendary Scottish concerts. As always, we’ll pay a Memorial Day tribute to the brave service of the Scottish and U.S. military. Gallabrae is bound to make this a Memorial Day weekend you won’t soon forget.

CEREMONY at FURMAN UNIVERSITY OPENING 10:30 am

TICkETS CAN BE PuRCHASED ONLINE AT GALLABRAE.COM OR AT THE GATE.

PIPE BAND COMPETITIONS With bands boasting 300+ members, Gallabrae hosts some of the finest bagpipe performances in the country. Get ready to enjoy the sheer thrill of the pipe band competitions, but also be sure to keep your ears open for the haunting melodies of the solo bagpipers.

HEAVY ATHLETICS Some folks would call this event the star of the show, and why not? It’s not everyday you get to watch tough men (and women) toss telephone poles and boulders like it’s easy. In addition to the stone tossing, you’ll see axe throwing, sheaf tossing, and caber tossing competitions. Sponsored by the Greenville Health System.

GREAT SCOT! PARADE

DOWNTOWN ALIVE!

May 24th DOWNTOWN GREENVILLE 6:00 pm

May 23rd DOWNTOWN GREENVILLE 5:30 pm

Main Street

NOMA Square on Main Street in front of the Hyatt

The Scots are ready to rock downtown. Join Smash The Radio, the City of Greenville Pipes & Drums - followed by Celtic favorite, Cleghorn! The Scots know how to party and the street will be full of kilts, Royal Highland Fusiliers and enough toe tappin’ to keep you happy. This is a free event!

We wouldn’t be Scottish if we didn’t outdo ourselves every year. The 2013 parade will start at North and Main and continue to the Peace Center. Woods Faeries, pipe bands, Scottish re-enactors, Scottish Chiefs, marching clans, axe throwers and more. Greenville may never be the same!

THE BRITISH CAR SHOW

HIGHLAND DANCING COMPETITIONS

The elegance and craftsmanship of British classic cars has moved the world. This year’s featured marque is Austin Healey. Time to buy that lottery ticket! Sponsored by Jaguar of Greenville.

These dancers might look graceful, but don’t be fooled—the athleticism and stamina required to compete at this level challenges even the heaviest of athletes. Their performance of centuries-old, traditional Scottish dances will definitely be among the festival highlights.

BORDER COLLIES These dogs are so smart, you’ll feel plain dumb watching them. Be sure to catch this favorite event, where border collie teams and their handlers will demonstrate extraordinary sheepherding skills, in addition to other impressive tricks and obstacle courses.

WEE SCOTLAND Give your little tykes a taste of Gallabrae at their own miniature Scottish village, where they’ll have the chance to create crafts, participate in kid-sized athletic events, climb “mountains,” play games, and try their hand at other traditional Scottish activities. Woods Faeries, hurlers and Shaemus will all be there!

TICkETS ALSO AVAILABLE AT THE GATE.

After you’ve partied like a Scot all day at the Scottish Games, find your second wind and head back to Furman for an incredible concert, featuring three high energy Celtic rock bands. Festival favorite Albannach will be back, ready to jam all night. And of course, there will be plenty of beer. Don’t worry—we’ll all sleep in Sunday morning. Tickets are available at gallabrae.com or at the gate the day of event.
