We’ve worked hard to make it worthy of the homes it showcases, and at home on your coffee table, and the coffee tables in over 30,000 other fine homes. This bespoke publication is just another first in a long history of firsts that are a consequence of putting Clients First, Always. rofessional soccer is coming to Greenville this spring, and no one is more ready than Jackson Herlong, Broker-in-Charge for Joan Herlong & Associates Sotheby’s International Realty and soccer fan extraordinaire. The United Soccer League is bringing its proven professional soccer experience to the Upstate with the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club, one of the first teams to be announced as part of USL’s new third division, USL League One. After a nationwide search, team owners Joe and Doug Erwin were able to land their first choice for head coach in National Soccer Hall of Fame member John Harkes. “This is a big get,” Herlong says of the heralded American soccer phenom who appeared in two FIFA World Cup tournaments and was the first American to play in the Premier League, the top tier of English soccer. Herlong has vivid memories of watching Harkes play center midfield for the 1994 World Cup team, and could not be more thrilled to see one of his childhood heroes taking the lead to transform the future of soccer in his hometown. “The timing is perfect for Greenville,” Harkes says. “The youth groups here are amazing. The Harkes were first exposed to Greenville through their daughter, Lauren, who played soccer for Clemson University. Cindi was also familiar with Greenville’s strong youth soccer community through her work as a youth coach.

“I’ve been impressed with how good the clubs are for small clubs and how connected they are to the community,” Cindi says. “There are good people working in all the clubs we’ve seen so far. We’re excited to be here.” While Cindi doesn’t yet have concrete plans for what her involvement will be in the local soccer scene, the former middle and high school teacher is seeking an opportunity that will unite her love for the game with her equally strong passion for the importance of education. She also hopes to work with community leaders to create more safe spaces for kids to play soccer in underserved areas. “When we speak to Joe and Doug [Erwin] about their vision for the Triumph they talk about building something the community can be proud of and feel connected to,” John says. “It is early on in the process, but I envision something growing really nicely here.” Harkes recounts a recent story of one of the Harkes daughters being stopped on the street in downtown Greenville by an excited soccer fan who wanted to know if the Triumph jersey she was wearing meant she had some connection to the team. “The fever is building,” he says. The Triumph will kick off its inaugural season
