t is my favorite time of year. I love the flurry of activity, the shopping, the giving, the togetherness. This is our
11th annual Journal Holiday Catalog – just in time to make your list and check it twice.
These are challenging times. Local businesses face
DISTRIBUTION David M. Robinson Pre-press Holly Hardin COPY EDITOR Diane Jackson
increased competition not just locally, but from many sources, including national catalogs and the Internet. When we shop catalogs and websites that money often leaves our community and benefits businesses in Maine, Illinois, or New York instead. Upstate businesses depend on the local community for survival and, in return, the community reaps the benefits of lower unemployment, a healthier economy, sales taxes that help local schools, and a level of personal service that only a local shop can provide. Take a look inside and you will see great gift ideas found right here at home. I hope you enjoy shopping the catalog and the many wonderful businesses found in the Upstate. We at the Journal wish you a wonderful holiday season. Remember to Shop Local – It Matters!

rnamental ironwork in the deep South reflected the influence of blacksmiths, through time, forging folk art into gates, balconies, and grills. The pieces in this Collection are reminiscent of that ironwork. The intricate scroll designs are a tribute to the skill of artisans in the past who wrought beauty from the iron in their forges. These clean, distinct lines show as well in jewelry as they did in the decorative ironwork of the South in the 18th and 19th centuries.
This collection is available in sterling silver, 14 karat gold or a combination of both.

give the gift that saves the day In this season of hope–when you want your gifts to really matter– there’s one gift you can always count on to save the day. It will save the day when the next disaster strikes. When a neighbor’s house burns down. When someone needs the comfort of a helping hand. It will turn heartbreak into hope. Hope. It’s the gift you give to the American Red Cross. Please donate today.

Passion & PurPose
PERRY MAJOR first heard about the Center for Developmental Services (CDS) when his son, Chas, needed help with developmental issues. Since then, he has devoted countless hours toward ensuring that CDS is here for other families when they need it. HOW HE GIVES: In addition to making annual gifts and telling friends and family members about the CDS Partnership, Perry’s passion has driven him to actively fundraise for the center through FirstGiving (http://firstgiving.com/ perrymajor). WHY HE GIVES: “Running a North Face Endurance Challenge 50K race pales in comparison to the challenges the families at CDS face. It’s the least I can do to raise money and awareness for them.” WHY CDS: “CDS should be mentioned alongside BMW, the Liberty Bridge, and all the other wonderful Greenville attractions that make our community so valuable.” Right now, we are asking people to give $10 per month to celebrate our ten years in Greenville. Participating is easy — just sign up securely online on our website or send in a check letting us know that you want to be a 10-FoR-10 MEMBER. To find out more about how you can get involved and support the families that come to CDS, please give us a call at 864-331-1300 or visit www.cdservices.org. 110

NEED A FAST GIFT IDEA? If you want to show that special employee or client that they truly are special, forget that bottle of wine or coffee table book this year and consider a day at the BMW Performance Center. This is no middle-of-the-road gift, this is an own-the-road gift that will stay with them long after they’ve parked the BMW and their heart has slowed down. Visit bmwusa.com/performancecenter.
