Lynchburg is home to a beautiful network of earthen and paved trails that run through the Blackwater Creek Natural Area. Although many residents and visitors are familiar only with the trails of Blackwater Creek, there are many trails alongside the creek and beyond to explore. For complete information on city trails visit www.lynchburgparksandrec.com 1 Blackwater Creek Trail is one of the most popular trails in the city. Following along the winding Blackwater Creek and built along an abandoned railway bed, this 3-mile paved trail is perfect for jogging, walking, or biking. It trail travels through a lovely urban forest, and is intersected at various points with earthen trails that allow visitors to delve deeper into the forested area and enjoy the many plants and wildlife species inhabiting it. Beginning at the Ed Page entrance , it’s about three miles to the entrance to the RiverWalk Trail, or approximately 2 miles before reaching the Point of Honor Trail Section. Public parking is available at both the Ed Page and East Randolph Place entrances. Restrooms are available at the Ed Page entrance. Trail Entrances: Ed Page – 1720 Langhorne Rd., East Randolph Pl. – 340 East Randolph Pl., Downtown Lynchburg – Jefferson St. and 8th St. 2 Point of Honor Trail A 1.5 mile spur off of the Blackwater Creek Trail, traveling past the historic Point of Honor home before connecting to the entrance of RiverWalk and back to the eastern end of the Blackwater Creek Trail. Point of Honor is a historic home, situated on a point of land in the Daniel’s Hill neighborhood overlooking the James River. The trail also passes through scenic Hollins

Mill Park. The Point of Honor Trail section also provides access to the Creekside Trail. Trail Entrance: Downtown Lynchburg – Jefferson St. and 8th St. 3 RiverWalk Trail The ultimate urban/scenic nature walk. Beginning where the Blackwater Creek Trail ends on Jefferson St., RiverWalk first travels along Riverfront Park through historic downtown Lynchburg before crossing onto Percival’s Island, a beautiful natural area with earthen trails criss-crossing its length. Visitors enjoy the shade and river breezes from the water, and early morning and evening visitors will likely spot a variety of wildlife along the trail. The trail extends to Amherst County, and visitors can continue along the trail before returning back to Lynchburg across the James. This flat, handicapped accessible, paved trail is popular with hikers, bikers, and runners all year long. Fishing is permitted in accordance with State of Virginia fishing regulations. Entrances and Parking: From the Lynchburg side of the river, trail-goers can enter at the parking area at Washington St. and Concord Tnpk. For visitors from Amherst County, access to the trail is at the terminus of Fertilizer Rd., past the Central Virginia Training Center.
PARKS The City of Lynchburg has a wonderful park system for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy. The 850 acres of parkland include parks that range in size from less than an acre to almost 300 acres.
