Expect the unexpected
W
ithin the pages of Jstyle Weddings, we often advise brides- and grooms-to-be to be as prepared as possible for the unexpected hurdles that might arise on their big day. In fact, a year ago, I donned my old reporter’s cap for a day to pen a piece we called “Foul-weather photography.” For the article, I asked a pair of local wedding photographers for advice on how brides and grooms can best handle those times when Mother Nature isn’t so cooperative – a common occurrence here in Northeast Ohio. In short, they advised having a back-up plan in place for rain, sleet or snow (or humidity or strong winds or ...) and to not lose sight of the fact that their wedding day is about them and their bond, not about sunny skies. Little did I realize at the time how meaningful their advice would be. This past December, on Dec. 10 to be exact, one of my girlfriend’s sisters got married. Though the couple and much of their families are East Siders – primarily residing in Lake County – the wedding was held in Strongsville. Also from
Lake County was the wedding photographer they’d booked. If you don’t remember what the weather was like that weekend (perhaps you blocked it from your memory), allow me to remind you. Lake-effect conditions that began Dec. 8 dumped about 2 feet of snow across the Snow Belt over the 48 hours that followed, virtually paralyzing many East Side communities. Among those unable to attend the wedding as a result was – you guessed it – the snowed-in photographer. So, my girlfriend, who learned of this early in the day because she was in the wedding and getting ready for the ceremony alongside the bride-to-be, texted me to ask whether I’d bring my camera. Not only am I a West Sider who’s largely unaffected by lake-effect snow, but I also know my way around a camera well enough to get by. (Observant Jstyle readers know that I often provide photography for the magazine.)
With that, a good chunk of my afternoon in (sunny) Strongsville was spent with a camera around my neck. By no means am I a wedding photographer, but thanks to some help and pointers from another wedding guest – who actually is a wedding photographer – I got by. In the end, I was happy to help, and I was thankful for the fact that the newlyweds – who remained in good spirits throughout – didn’t let inclement weather ruin their wedding day. The lesson? As we often say in Jstyle Weddings, prepare as much as you can and try to expect the unexpected. To that end, this issue of Jstyle Weddings is filled with advice from Northeast Ohio wedding professionals about how best to plan and prepare for your wedding. It’s also chock-full of inspiration for dresses, décor, food and more, and as always, we highlight a handful of recent local weddings. Enjoy reading, and enjoy your big – and hopefully less snowy – day.

PLANNING
P
lanning a wedding is no small feat. From deciding on a florist and caterer to picking out save-the-dates and invitations, it’s easy for brides-to-be to become overwhelmed with the planning process. Fortunately, Valarie Kirkbride Falvey, a wedding planner and founder of Kirkbrides Wedding Planning and Design in Mentor, and Brenda Kucinski, events director at Socially Artistic in Strongsville, offer their advice for how to make planning a wedding an enjoyable and stress-free experience.
First things first Vendors who may get booked up quickly are the first ones brides should meet with, Falvey suggests. “We start with the venue first and foremost, and then the first round of vendors would be date-sensitive ones, like the photographer, videographer, and the band or DJ,” she says. Finding an experienced wedding planner to work with also is key during the early stages of the planning process. “The planner can help you make sure you’re spending money wisely,” Kucinski says. “Planners’ dates go quickly, so if they want one to help them, whether it be full-service or just the day of, the longer they wait, the dates may not be available.”
you can be in a good mood in front of the camera,” Falvey says. Oftentimes, a couple’s budget can dictate which vendors they select. “Create a realistic budget in the very beginning because if you just plan as you go, you for sure in the long run will spend more money because every single thing will be important to you. If you plan ahead of time and have an idea of where you’re looking to stay within for each vendor, then that will help,” Falvey says.

Pick the dress All eyes will be on the bride and her wedding dress as she walks down the aisle. As such, it’s important for brides-to-be to allot enough time to find the dress and allow for alterations. Kucinski recommends purchasing the dress anywhere from six to nine months before the wedding date. “Dresses are still taking 12 to 16 weeks to get in, so you want to have enough time to get it altered. Not only that but the dress sets the theme. It starts the trickle-down effect of everything. Besides the venue, your dress sort of wraps everything up and it tells the story,” she says.
Narrow down options With so many vendors from which to choose, it can be difficult for brides to decide on who to book. Personality is an important aspect to consider, especially when it comes to the photographer. “With the photographer, it’s super important to know if your personalities mesh well so that you’re comfortable with them on the wedding day and that
MarcandTony.com / Socially Artistic
Important details With so many moving parts, details of the wedding day can sometimes get overlooked. Transportation at the end of the night is one aspect that bridesto-be often forget to handle, Kucinski says. “Everyone thinks about how they’re getting there but not necessarily how they’re getting home,” she says.
Wedding day stationery, including escort cards, menus, table numbers and programs, also seems to be an area that brides overlook. “It’s just another décor accent to tie your style in, and it’s also so welcoming and charming for guests to be at an event with every detail thought of like that,” Falvey says.
Stay calm under pressure Some brides feed off the attention of their family and bridesmaids while others prefer some quiet time to gather their thoughts before the big day. Figuring out each bride’s personality, Kucinski says, can be key to creating an enjoyable experience. “If you’re the type of person that loves to have people around you because it energizes and calms you, then
absolutely have people around you. If you’re not that type of person, make sure you have time for you alone some time throughout the day. Take a moment to yourself alone just so you can sort of pull yourself together,” she says. Falvey encourages brides to work with a professional wedding planner, whether for the entire planning process or just the day of the wedding, in order to have someone coordinate all of the details of the big day. She also reminds brides not to get discouraged if something goes wrong. “Try to remember that this is one day and the most important thing is the reason why you’re doing it,” she says. “The day will be here and gone in a flash, but what matters is that you are celebrating your new marriage and relationship.” jstylemagazine.com

Goldie and Dan Ermine
Dan and Goldie Ermine, Dan and Jill Ross, and Jeremy and Shira Tor are observant couples, at least to some extent. All clearly love each other and, at least as important, are good friends. All are engaged in the community, and all are patient. They are at different stages in their lives. The Ermines are, respectively, 90 and 93, the Rosses 56, the Tors 32. The children of the first two couples are adults, while the Tors’ daughters are just starting: Ariella is 2, and Dahlia was born Jan. 1. Interviews with these couples – the one with the Ermines was by phone from Delray Beach, Fla. – suggest that one key to a lasting marriage is listening to one another. That may be a vital key. In deference to age, let’s start with the Ermines, who celebrated their 70th anniversary Sept. 4 at Landerhaven. Goldie Shnider and Dan Ermine, who knew each other from the Glenville neighborhood where they grew up, were married at the swanky residence hotel Wade Park Manor, now Judson Manor, on East 107th Street. About 800 people attended. “In those days, people crashed,” says Goldie. Is there a secret to a lasting marriage? “First of all, I learned that you can’t sweat the small stuff,” says Goldie, who did most of the talking. “You have to really pick your battles. It took a long time to learn that.” She and Dan attend B’nai Jeshurun Congregation in Pepper Pike, though “not every Friday night.” Dan still does accounting occasionally for the Painesville law firm of Dworken & Bernstein, and Goldie keeps her hand in at Menorah Park (she says she runs the kitchen there), presents high tea at R.H. Myers Apartments and tends bar at happy hour at Wiggins Place. Keeping active is critical, says Goldie, who retired at age 64 from managing Donna Lee, a clothing store at Cedar and Warrensville roads. Accountant Dan, whom she calls Danny, retired at 65. As for sweating the small stuff, “I had a lot of different issues,” says Goldie, noting her husband “walks real slow” because he has Parkinson’s disease, “but he still works.” “If you would take a look at us, people who see me and my husband, they don’t believe it,” she says. “They say it’s not possible that you’re 90. I’m very active and I look it. And we had a 70th anniversary party in September at Landerhaven.” The Ermines are the parents of Mark Ermine and Lori Seretan. They have eight great-grandchildren, with a ninth on the way. Jstyle Weddings 2017

A seasoned marriage Humor is critical to the Rosses, who have been married for 27 years. He’s director of operations for Landmark RE Management, and she has been metro program director at Cleveland Hillel Foundation for 20 years. They live in the Beachwood home in which he grew up, along with their son, Zachary, their daughter, Jamie and their 16-year-old shih tzu – named, naturally, Betsy Ross. “We were fixed up on a blind date,” says Dan. “Our first date was March 13, 1988. I remember dates. My mom and I used to own Arista’s Affairs for Debonairs, a card gift shop and wedding invitations store at La Place, and the lady across the way, who owned a women’s clothing and accessories store, said, would you like to meet a nice young girl?” That “nice young girl” was Jill, who noted that that matchmaker was a friend of her parents. Small world. 22
Jstyle Weddings 2017
After their first date, at the Hyde Park Grille Restaurant on Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights, Jill took off for a 10-day vacation in Mexico, promising Dan she’d call on her return. She did. She went on lots of first dates at that time, many of them with men named Dan. With this Dan, however, Jill hit it off, fast. This Dan was special. They were married at the Marriott Park East in Beachwood on July 2, 1989 in a “good-sized wedding” attended by nearly 300. The place was particularly crowded that weekend because of the Davis Family Reunion. “We joked all weekend long because the Davis family was running around in T-shirts in the hotel,” says Dan. They went to France for a dream honeymoon: a week in Paris, a week in Cannes and a side trip to Monte Carlo. “Every paycheck we took money out so we could afford this trip,”
says Dan. “We didn’t have the encumbrances that children bring.” Faith and a sense of community are as critical as humor to the Rosses, who attend Park Synagogue in Cleveland Heights and Pepper Pike. “Through faith, you develop an amazing sense of community and I think that’s what gets you through,” Jill says. “You have your friends, your synagogue, and that’s what gets you through it. Our daughter went to (Gross) Schechter School in Pepper Pike and we have some amazing friendships from the community there. And a foundation was really established for her.” A member of the Cleveland Hiking Club, Dan relaxes by hiking on the weekends, joking he can’t keep up with the
oldsters even though he hiked 280 miles in 2016. He also cooks on Sundays, and both greatly enjoy hosting Passover dinners for up to 45 people. Jill spends a lot of time with her parents at Menorah Park. “We sit, we laugh,” she says, noting these get-togethers include daughter Jamie, who is studying at a women’s yeshiva in Jerusalem, by Facetime. The two accommodate each other. Jill points to the Cleveland Browns flag draped over an upstairs banister, noting she’s a Browns fan but unlike Dan, not to that extent. Dan won that battle. It might have been humor to the rescue. When people ask how long they’ve been married, Dan says 27 years, “three of the best years of our lives.” Which three? “Depends.” jstylemagazine.com

The short-termers Jeremy and Shira Tor have been married since Sept. 2, 2012. She’s a Tel Aviv native who grew up in Northeast Ohio and an orthodontist who always wanted her own practice in the Cleveland area – which today she has as a partner at Weiss & Tor Orthodontics in Orange Village. He’s a plaintiff ’s attorney with the Cleveland firm of Spangenberg Shibley & Liber, representing individuals who are seriously injured or killed as a result of the wrongdoing of others. Both are active at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple in Beachwood. Jeremy and Shira got married on a Sunday at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. It rained, but they were able to hold the ceremony outdoors. About 130 people attended including his grandfather, a World War II veteran who turns 90 in May, and her grandmother, who has since passed. “It was special to have both my grandfather and her grandmother at the wedding party,” Jeremy says. Doing good is a value they share and exemplify in their professions. That value helped them build on a relationship of many twists and turns. At the same time, the decision to be together has governed them for years. “I think one of the keys to success is we were both on the same page for a very long time, from very early in our relationship,” says Jeremy. “I think there is something somewhat traditional about how our relationship began. It wasn’t an arranged marriage, but it had similar aspects,” he says in a joint interview at their home in Shaker Heights. “I was the brother (of the groom) at (Shira’s) good friend’s wedding, so the pedigree, as it were, was verified. It gave us a foundation to move into, as long as the spark was there – and it was – and we knew there was a good foundation.” They met in 2009 in greater Phoenix, where the former Shira Lazebnik was going to dental school. She was a classmate of Jeremy’s sisterin-law, whom he’d visit (along with his brother) on breaks from law school at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. After formally meeting Shira at a party a couple of weeks after the wedding, Jeremy told his sister-in-law to set him up with Shira, but Shira was in a relationship at the time. “I go back to law school and later that fall, I’m sitting in the library and I get a message from out of the blue from Shira, totally unexpected; I thought she’d completely forgotten about me,” he says. “We met at a party, it wasn’t like we’d spent time together. So she messaged me out of the blue, and we started having regular long-distance communications and I would say it progressed rather quickly.” 24
Jstyle Weddings 2017
None had lived with a significant other before, but with the blessing of their parents, they moved in together after Shira entered a one-year general practice residency in Virginia. She says she expected resistance to the idea of their living together, and was surprised when it was OKed. “My parents are very conservative, and it took some persuasion from my father,” she says. “The only reason my dad agreed was that he thought, for my safety at least, he knew I was going to be with somebody he knows and trusts.” In June 2011, Shira moved to Philadelphia for an orthodontist residency, and drove Jeremy to Beachwood to live at her parents’ home there and become a clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster. Between 2011 and 2013, they lived in different cities – and produced Ariella, their first child. They finally moved to the Cleveland area in 2014 after a year in Princeton, N.J., where she completed her Philadelphia orthodontist residency and he worked at
Jeremy and Shira Tor, along with daughters Ariella and Dahlia, at their Shaker Heights home in 2017 and on their wedding day in 2012.
the Manhattan law firm of Baker & McKenzie. Shira moved back into her parents’ home in September 2014 with Ariella, and Jeremy joined them there that November. They acquired their own home a year later. What binds them? “Our family, our values,” Jeremy says. “I think Shira and I are both very close to our families, we cherish our families very much. We also both do work where we have the ability to help others, a notion central to Jewish tradition: helping others, giving back to the community, making the world a better place.” Balancing career with family demands is a challenge, he says. “Family comes first though we both very much cherish our careers, so striking a balance is a challenge.” Balance, sharing values, humor, staying active, not sweating the small stuff and putting family first – all have worked for these three couples, from generation to generation.

VINTAGE VINEYARD
Vintage vineyard By Julia Brown
If elegance under the summer sun is more your style, you can’t go wrong with a vineyard wedding. Select a gown that’s timeless and classic-looking with lace, embroidery and beading, and you’ll no doubt be a vision among the vines. Romantic details like covered buttons, a sheer back and a sweeping train will make your look even more unforgettable. Add some extra shine to your ensemble with heirloom-inspired accessories featuring crystals, opals or pearls. While wine barrels, grapes and greenery are a must, enhance your scene with antique flourishes for an old-fashioned feel.

INDUSTRIAL ROMANTIC
Industrial romantic By Julia Brown
For the DIY bride who enjoys making something old feel new again, consider this 2017 trend. Start with a minimalistic gown of silk, satin or taffeta that has a simple, chic, silhouette. To reflect this feel, select delicate studs and other accessories for an understated yet memorable sparkle. Have your bridal party follow suit in pretty pastels and classic colors like charcoal or navy that never go out of style. For your main stage, select a space with brick walls, rustic light fixtures and an outdoor patio for exchanging vows or dancing the night away. Complete your scene with flowers, draperies and handmade décor for an overall charming, romantic vibe.

When you think of your nuptials, do you envision waterside wedding perfection? Look no further than Northeast Ohio’s lovely Lake Erie. Whether you opt for a shoreline venue or right on the beach, your style should reflect the summery setting. From classic and modern gowns to those that are breezy and boho-chic, start by saying sayonara to sleeves. Dare to bare with spaghetti straps, racerbacks and crisscross features that highlight your shoulders and back. For some added shade, select a sheer capelet so you’re ceremony-ready. To finish, add an embellished hair clip to windproof your own waves.

Coif commitment Hairstyles, products and lining up a stylist in a timely manner are key to obtaining the look you want on your wedding day By Naomi Grant Perhaps more important than the hairstyle or hair products themselves, is that brides start looking for the right hair stylist soon after getting engaged, says Tracey Watts-Cirino, owner of Lavish Color Salon in Warrensville Heights. “The more time we have to plan that, the better – and the more they’re going to love their hair that day,” she says. “If they’re going to need a certain color, extensions ... there’s a lot of work that needs to go into it if you’re going to actually have it the day of.” Cathy Wood, master stylist and color specialist at Salon Lofts in Mayfield Heights, has noticed a lot of brides choose loose, romantic braids on their special day, including waterfall and fishtail braids. But the wedding dress is also a factor when choosing a hairstyle. Wood will soon be a bride herself and calls her dress 54

boho-chic. “I’m doing half-up, half-down (with) a lot of flowers, baby’s breath in the hair, so it’s just very subtle.” And to get certain hairstyles, soft hair just won’t do. “If the hair’s too soft, I like using a lot of dry shampoos
that give a lot of volume to it,” she says. Wood noted S FACTOR by TIGI is also among her favorites. Watts-Cirino calls Redken’s Pillow Proof spray “the best hair product for a bride.” “It works as a primer, so it
helps lock your hairstyle in so it stays even longer – that is just a necessity,” she says. She also recommends Triple Take 32 Extreme High-Hold Hairspray, also from Redken, which “has a strong hold without being sticky or tacky.” jstylemagazine.com

Area makeup artists say brides are increasingly going with natural looks on their wedding days By Naomi Grant When it comes to makeup, less is more. Brides are focusing on shades of pink for eye shadow, lips and contouring, which allow them to enhance their natural features and look fresh-faced, more natural and more like themselves on their special day. “What I’ve been noticing is fresh-faced, letting your freckles and those natural beauty marks show – just pops of colors,” says Tamra Malone, master stylist and makeup artist at Dino Palmieri Salon & Spa in Westlake. “That’s what I think we’re going to see a lot of this year, just your natural style as 56

opposed to the Kim Kardashian full face two-hour makeup application.” Kelly Miron, owner of The Powder Room Makeup Oasis & Boutique in Woodmere, agreed. “Every bride wants beautiful, flawless, dewy skin,” she says. “Just (something) really taking care of complexion – and having it either through makeup or through skin care.” Most of the brides Miron sees say they don’t wear much makeup, so she sticks to a fairly natural look. “If that happens to be the case with the bride, then it’s always a sure bet to stick with
flawless skin, a really pretty lip and a rosy cheek,” she says. “You can’t go wrong with that.” But for the bride who is into makeup, Miron likes smoky eyes. “A smoky brown eye is perfect for spring. It’s because you can get a little bit of the drama, but not so heavy like with a black, smoky eye,” she explains. “And then you can still pair that with a really pretty lip – but obviously making sure that you’re not overpowering.” Martha Vucsko from La Look Boutique in Chagrin Falls frequently does eyebrow microblading for her clients. This is a semi-permanent process with “hairstrokes that I create to make the brows fuller and fill them in,” and lasts for one to three years. “This is actually creating tiny, feather-like strokes so it
creates the perfectly shaped arched brow for the person’s face,” she says. As for lips, matte lips are still on-trend, Miron says, adding that she likes neutral shades from Girlactik, which span from pinks to browns. For beautiful skin, Miron recommends ELLIS FAAS Cosmetics foundation. “It really just gives a beautiful finish and it’s not a heavy ‘makeupy’ look,” she says. “They have three different shimmer powders that are triple melt. It’s more shimmer, it’s not glitter. It doesn’t settle in the fine lines and wrinkles, and it really just settles beautifully on the skin.” But the most important thing, Miron says, “is to stay true to who you are and not to use your wedding day as a day to do something really daring.” jstylemagazine.com

When it comes to a bride choosing her perfect fragrance, there’s a lot more to keep in mind than simply its smell. To make sure the scent fits the mood, the location and a bride’s body chemistry are also important to consider. Smell is the only sense that directly connects to the brain, which means the perfume will act as a memory trigger. “When you wear perfume you want to make sure you like it and it’s associated with a beautiful memory for your wedding,” says Ann Onusko, owner of Indigo Perfumery in Lakewood. “So make sure you really like a perfume, make sure you try it on early enough ahead of time just to be sure and always sample before you buy.” To that end, many women like to buy fragrances before their wedding to take home and test with their body chemistry, as well as to make sure that their fiancées like the scent as well. “I notice a lot of women will return fragrances that they actually like but their spouses do not like,” says Chrissy Rubino, beauty specialist/counter manager at the YSL counter at Saks Fifth Avenue, Beachwood. The location of a wedding should help determine the bride’s fragrance, Onusko says. In an outdoor wedding, especially during the summer, fragrance is noted much quicker because of the humidity in the air. “You would not want to wear something that’s too heavy (outdoors), so in that case, I’d probably go with a lighter floral or citrus flavor,” Onusko says. She noted sophisticated florals are always in season. At Indigo Perfumery, scents called Amber Rose and Boutonniere No. 7 are popular. At YSL, two of the most popular fragrances are Flowerbomb by Victor & Rolf and Chloé by Chloé Eau de Parfum, both very floral scents, Rubino says. But one of her personal favorites is Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent, whose notes are green coffee accord, white flower and citrus. “It’s very feminine, and it’s ‘an addictive and sparkling fragrance,’ they say,” Rubino says. jstylemagazine.com

CAKES
By Kristen Mott All eyes are on the bride and groom as they cut a slice of the wedding cake together at their reception. As such, couples are opting for cakes that reflect their personal taste and style. Those in the know from Northeast Ohio bakeries describe what trends they’re seeing.
Ombre Brides are asking for different shades of the same color. We actually did a cake and on each tier we used two different shades of purple, because their wedding color was purple. It was a three-tier cake with six different shades of purple, which really isn’t noticeable from the outside, but when the guests cut into it, that’s when they’re impressed. – Joel Davis, owner, Davis Bakery

Classic flavors We have 65 flavors in total, but most of our wedding orders have been more of the classic flavors. We do a lot of Triple Threat Chocolate (chocolate cake with chocolate morsels, chocolate frosting with chocolate morsels, and a dark chocolate dip), Snow White (white cake, white frosting and vanilla dip) and French Vanilla (vanilla cake, vanilla frosting and vanilla dip). Those are definitely the three flavors that are most popular for weddings. – Natalie Winer, business development director, Cake Bites and Other Delights David Lowry Photography / Cake Bites and Other Delights

Naked Instead of having a wedding cake that’s completely iced over with a coating of buttercream or fondant and then decorated with piping and trim, these cakes are exposed. You can have a fourtiered cake stacked together, but there’s no outside icing. These were very popular last summer, and they’re a big change from traditional wedding cakes. – Michael Feigenbuam, owner, Lucy’s Sweet Surrender

Buttercream frosting The cakes that have frosting are sure showstoppers, giving your guests a lasting impression with shiny metallic designs, extra sparkle with glitz and glamour, Old Hollywood style, geometric shapes, Art Deco styles, cakes with ruffled frosting, or Monetinspired cake designs. I’ve also seen many gold and silver vintage style designs. – Madeline Repidonis, wedding planner, Executive Caterers at Landerhaven 68

Both trending and timeless, Blush epitomizes romance and is a stunner during spring and summer. A pastel paired perfectly with Pantone’s color of 2017, Greenery, it’s also not too far off from 2016’s color of the year, Rose Quartz. Be a little bold and work the shade into your gown, or dress your bridesmaids in rose tulle or chiffon with a slight shimmer. Green is good By Julia Brown
Are you ready to go au natural? With a color like Greenery trending as Pantone’s color of the year, you’ll want to keep things fresh in 2017. This earthy shade is vibrant and versatile, making it a year-round go-to from floral arrangements to décor. The hue transcends all styles and themes – both indoors and outdoors – so it can be worked into virtually any setting. Pair with neutrals and pastels for a refreshing pop of color, or incorporate with wood and stone for a forestry feel. For a bride in white, a simple tree line can make a timeless backdrop.

Choosing a venue should be a fun aspect of wedding planning, with hopefully minor anxiety about things like food options and how the venue style fits with one’s own. Local venue representatives explain some current trends in venue décor and arrangements that make choosing a wedding site exciting, yet relatively simple to execute – at least for the bride and groom.

Accommodating DIY Brides are very much wanting to show their personality through creativity. I’ve had brides do their own centerpieces, table numbers, photo displays – pretty much anything you can think of. They are all on Pinterest. – Mary Vanucci, senior catering manager and wedding specialist, InterContinental Cleveland

VENUES
Convenience People are looking for, instead of multiple, multiple venues, where they are going from one place to another place, they are looking for somewhere they can do pictures, their rooms, their ceremony and the reception in one (venue). – Victoria K. Hudson, director of sales for Bertram Inn & Conference Center
New Image Photography / Bertram Inn & Conference Cente
Genevieve Nisly Photography / Bertram Inn & Conference Center
Rustic People are into farm-to-table and kind of the more, in terms of décor, rustic feel. That’s definitely the nice thing about our venue. You can kind of transform it into any style you want, but given the ceilings are extremely high and they are wood, and there are beams, you can definitely bring (the rustic style) to life in full swing. – Whitney Neidus, general manager, The Venue at Stonewater
Brian Hunsaker / The Venue at Stonewater
Jeffrey James / Chagrin Valley Athletic Club
Space to move around What we encourage folks to do is to move it around, change the scene, have the wedding, if they are interested, outside in the gardens and then move to a veranda where drinks and appetizers can be served, then move into a main dining room – after we offer dancing under the stars. – Jim Rosenberger, owner, Chagrin Valley Athletic Club

Ketubot
Customized ketubot By Amanda Koehn Jennifer Kaplan Designs
While there are online options to buy and partially customize your ketubuh – choosing the size and text that matches your religious tradition – some local couples are choosing to have a completely personalized ketubah, with the help of an artist. Local artists who specialize in making them share special, detailed designs couples have asked them to create.
Demonstrating tastes I had a couple that was really into travel and Suzani tapestries ... they had these really cool tapestries all over their house. So we did a painted border of a pattern and also combined that with a papercut. – Jennifer Kaplan, owner, Jennifer Kaplan Designs
Jacqueline Kahane Freedman
Incorporating images I have lots of little pictures within the ketubah – it makes it very personal. Sometimes they will give me reference materials of things they want, like pictures of their dogs, sometimes multiple dogs, sometimes cats – so we have all kinds of critters. – Jacqueline Kahane Freedman, ketubuh artist in Shaker Heights 96

HORA Anthony and I always have a blast together dancing the hora at any event. This was cool because this time it was for us! ... We partied well into the early morning hours, then ended the night at JACK Cleveland Casino eating Corky and Lenny’s corned beef sandwiches with our best friends – in wedding attire of course! Best night ever. – Morgan

Are you “Wedding Ready”? Weddings are probably the single most photographed events for families, creating pictures that are cherished and viewed decades later. There is nothing more frustrating than spending months toning up, watching your diet and picking out THE perfect outfit, only to look in the mirror a few weeks before the event looking tired and (in your mind) old. The sagging neck, bags under the eyes or love handles, that you meant to do something about, are still there.
The Experience You Trust and The Skill You Deserve.
Now is the time to consider doing something about those problem areas before it’s too late. If you’re considering a face or neck lift, tummy tuck or breast lift, you will need to provide adequate time for recovery, at least a month. Other procedures, such as liposuction, laser treatment of fine lines, or eyelid surgery, won’t require as much recovery time. When planning a cosmetic procedure, people often overlook the time that it takes to get an appointment with a preferred surgeon for a consultation (possibly two) and then to get on the surgeon’s schedule for the procedure. Although you may be ready to have a surgery, there may not be openings in a surgeon’s schedule immediately. As a rule, an experienced, well regarded surgeon, is a busy one and will have their calendar filled many weeks to months in advance. There are occasionally cancellations that can be filled but it’s always better to be safe than sorry and plan-ahead.
