Since 1910, The City Mission has remained committed to serving the Cleveland community, providing help and hope to all people through the transforming power of God’s love. In its early years, the Mission provided a wide range of social welfare programs to meet immediate needs and, most importantly, provided compassion and grace to people in crisis. Today, our services have expanded to caring for men, women, and children through basic needs and holistic, trauma-informed care.
We are excited to celebrate The City Mission with you this evening and to recognize several community partners through our Help, Heart, Home Awards and the Sara Moll Impact Award. The support and dedication of these partners have enabled The City Mission to continue serving the city of Cleveland with great care.
Through economic depressions, wars, and two worldwide pandemics, the Mission has endeavored to meet the needs of its residents in the most dignified manner. We are honored to have you all celebrate with us, and we can’t wait to see how The City Mission will continue to positively impact the lives of Cleveland residents for years to come.
If you are interested in learning more about The City Mission, we would love to connect with you. For more information, contact Linda Uveges at luveges@thecitymission.org.

Brandy’s success and leadership throughout her career led her to be appointed Executive Vice President over Equitable Advisors Mid America Branch in 2020. She became the first Black Female EVP within Equitable Advisors. She and her business partner oversee offices in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.
Since her appointment, the Branch has been recognized as one of the top 10 branches in the company and began the company’s Impact Day Program. Additionally, Brandy was awarded the CEO Award in 2020, Recognized by Crain’s Cleveland as a Notable in Finance in 2022, elected to the Honor Guard Executive Committee in 2022 and 2023, selected for the 2023 Class of Leadership Cleveland, and awarded Equitable’s Cultural Leadership Award in 2022, and Chief Diversity Officer Choice Award in 2023. She’s also served as a speaker for the National Black MBA Conference, Black Enterprise’s Women of Power Summit, and Finseca’s LAMP conference.
Personally, Brandy has always been involved in her community. She is a mentor, an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and serves on the boards of Intertwined and Finseca. Her faith is the cornerstone of her life. She is married, and has a beautiful and intelligent daughter, and a fun-loving pup. She and her family reside in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
Chris began his career in public service with the County Planning Commission where he developed community reinvestment plans and in Cuyahoga County government where he launched the Division of Employer Resources. Here, Chris saw the best of county government, where the private, nonprofit and public sectors worked together to achieve results.
In 2001, Chris was campaign manager for Jane Campbell, the first woman elected mayor in Cleveland’s history. At the City of Cleveland, he became Planning Director, where he led initiatives like the Cleveland Lakefront Plan and the Euclid Corridor. As chief architect of the Cleveland Lakefront Plan, he and his team engaged with 5,000 residents in the visioning process, secured tens of millions of dollars in state and federal funds, and laid the groundwork for projects that have received hundreds of millions in investment. Chris then served as Chief of Staff and Chief Development Officer in Cleveland where he oversaw over 5,000 employees and managed a budget of $1.5 billion.
For 16 years, Chris served as the President of University Circle, Inc. Chris achieved measurable results, transforming Ohio’s education, medical, and cultural district into a thriving complete community. He delivered more than 2,500 new and renovated neighborhood homes to the area, developed after-school and summer programs that engaged more than 10,000 students each year, helped bring a grocery store to a food desert and connected small businesses to Cleveland’s arts, education and healthcare institutions. He stepped down from his role at UCI in 2021 to launch his campaign for County Executive.
Providing help and hope to all people through the transforming power of God’s love.
Our goal is to identify each person’s unique needs and assist them with the best care and resources available.
Our staff works closely with each resident to help them set a path to achieve adequate income and sustainable housing.
We are unique in Cleveland, as we allow families and individuals to take the time they need to achieve their most sustainable option.
For women and children, we are a bridge from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency. With 166 beds and 61 rooms, Laura’s Home offers specialized, wraparound services designed to empower families and individuals to live healthy lives. Children are immediately supported through Pathways with in-house childcare, tutoring, and trauma-informed care.
Our individualized programs offer a variety of tracks to choose from. Each track includes classes, casework, and coaching designed to prepare men for the positive life they were made to live. Our campus has capacity for about 100 men to participate in an individualized program of their choosing, and a designated number of beds for emergency and short-term shelter.
Single mothers who have completed Laura’s Home programming have an opportunity to secure affordable housing through a homeownership program. Through New Horizons, The City Mission equips single mothers with the necessary skills to seek vocational and educational growth, secure and maintain employment, develop healthy financial practices, and obtain and care for their own homes. Upon program completion, each mother receives the title to her home, free and clear.
The Help Award recognizes an individual, corporation, or organization that has made a significant contribution to restoring dignity to our residents by caring for their basic needs. The Heart Award recognizes an individual, corporation, or organization that has made a significant impact on this transformative work, providing help and hope for those served at The City Mission. The 2024 Heart Award goes to MetroHealth. Katie Davis Bellamy will be accepting this Award.
The Home Award is given to an individual, corporation, or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to providing safe and stable housing to the men, women, and children we serve. The 2024 Home Award goes to Cuyahoga Land Bank Charities. Gus Frangos, President and General Counsel will be accepting this Award.

“Thanks to their generosity, The City Mission can serve single mothers and their children for an even longer period of time. Our goal is to provide mothers with the resources they need to end the generational cycle of poverty for their families. We are truly grateful for this incredible gift from the Rothstein family!” Linda Uveges
We’re building a new kind of hospital system—one intentionally structured to serve every person. And to serve every person, we make sure you’re seen: for who you are, for what you’re feeling, and for your unique needs. We don’t just listen. We make sure you’re heard by taking action both within our hospital walls and in our community to help every person be well. Be seen. Be heard. Be well.
