EMPOWERING WOMEN IN ISRAEL SINCE 1925

2022 Golda Meir Award

Honoring Anita Gray June 16, 2022

NA’AMAT USA

For almost 100 years, NA’AMAT USA, International Movement of Zionist Women, has had one mission: to support the women and children of Israel. To accomplish its mission, NA’AMAT – through its sister organization in Israel – provides a broad range of social services, from day care centers to domestic violence shelters; from legal aid to alternative high schools. NA’AMAT has services and facilities in communities throughout the country, from Kiryat Shemoneh in the north, to Eilat in the south. NA’AMAT – “A Voice For Women & Children – A Voice For Israel.”

NA’AMAT Israel

On the public level – NA’AMAT mobilizes and leads women to bring about social changes by initiating campaigns to influence public opinion and increase public awareness. We work to reinforce women’s awareness of their rights and value in the work force while pressuring employers to adapt to the special needs of the woman and her family.

To Achieve These Goals We:

• Initiate legislation • Organize protests and demonstrations • Provide public information and organize lectures and seminars • Take part in Knesset committees • File petitions to the Supreme Court On the communal level – NA’AMAT provides support services to women, children and families in Israel. We provide the following:

Education Programs:

• Day care centers • Agricultural, residential high schools • Professional training programs for women • Technological high schools • College and university level scholarships for women

Social Service for Individuals and Groups: Legal Counseling – Intervention, treatment and prevention of domestic violence support groups for single parent families. Cultural Enrichment Programs for Women – NA’AMAT can be found in every

corner of Israel. That is why we are fully aware of the changing needs of women and families. We make every effort to adapt our agenda based on these changes, while anticipating future needs.

s we approach summer, and the end of another organizational year, it is time to recognize and applaud Cleveland Council for a job well done. Your members give of themselves tirelessly both on the Council and National levels. Heartfelt thanks go to Melanie Kutnick, Judith Shamir, and Linda Schoenberg for the important roles they play on our National board. Special thanks to Marci Curtis, your Area Director who has become the essential “heartbeat” of the NA’AMAT Cleveland Community. Todah Rabbah to all the members of Cleveland Council. You make the dreams of young women in Israel the realities of their future. I look forward to seeing you all at our convention. Although being held virtually, our amazing convention committee plans to bring all the excitement and sounds of Hollywood to you. Please join a local ‘watch’ party for our installation evening. It will be time to have fun, dress up, and drink a l’chaim with new and old friends. So, tune in and watch who will be coming down the red carpet. Wishing you a wonderful summer.

ear NA’AMAT Members and Friends:

I am proud to be greeting you in my new role as NA’AMAT USA’s National Executive Director and pleased to join you in honoring the work of both the Cleveland Council and of Anita Gray, this year’s Golda Meir Award recipient.

I have just returned from a whirlwind trip to Israel to see firsthand our remarkable NA’AMAT Israel programming and facilities, and I can attest to the important work you all are contributing to with your support of and donations to the Cleveland Council. It was clear to me on my visit that NA’AMAT Israel is woven into the very fabric of Israeli society, particularly where women are concerned. As the largest Women’s Movement in Israel, NA’AMAT’s top priority is to advance and strengthen the status of women in society and to provide them with relevant resources and access to education. In Jaffa, I visited with children who are benefitting from a bilingual Hebrew/Arabic curriculum and whose teachers and staff are both Jewish and Arab. NA’AMAT Israel has been working for the past 125 years to create meaningful, sustainable, and transformational impacts on the lives of children, women, and families of all backgrounds through education, mental health services, and systemic change. The mission and values of NA’AMAT are well aligned with those of the 2022 Golda Meir Award Honoree, Anita Gray – her life and work are a testament to her love for Israel, her work against antisemitism and bigotry, and her advocacy for an equitable society with resources and opportunities available to all. We appreciate all of you for your support of the Cleveland Council and NA’AMAT USA. With your help, we are making a difference – Thank you!

Dear Friends,

NA’AMAT USA and Cleveland Council recognize Anita Gray’s many accomplishments with this special Golda Meir Award. This award is presented to individuals for their personal and professional involvement in our community to help empower women, children, and families in Israel and throughout the United States and other parts of the world. We are thrilled to recognize Anita as our 2022 Golda Meir Award Honoree. Anita has answered the call for service in many roles locally, nationally and internationally. She is truly an aishet chayil whose mission is tikkun olam in the broadest sense. Her accomplishments are lengthy and can be found in her biography you’ve seen on the invitation. We thank members of the Tribute Committee for their commitment to recognizing Anita and their admiration for her ideals in supporting their shared mission of NA’AMAT. In addition, we gratefully acknowledge each of YOU for your support of the children in our day care centers, especially the Cologne Peace Day Care Center in Jaffa, Israel which will benefit from the proceeds of this event. We hope that as these young children grow up together and learn together, we are nurturing future adults who are able to address the complex problems facing Israel together. AISHET CHAYIL. - A WOMAN OF VALOR A WOMAN OF MANY TALENTS Aishet Chayil, a poem found in the Book of Proverbs (31:10-31) is attributed to King Solomon and sung at every Shabbat Table. Below are qualities that resonate with me about our distinguished honoree, Anita Gray. (10) Would that one finds a woman of many talents! Far beyond rubies is her worth. (25) She is dressed in strength and splendor; she smiles as she looks to the future. (26) She opens her mouth and speaks wisely; her tongue teaches kindness and love. (29) Many women have acted with strength, but you exceed them all. (31) Extol her for her handiwork, and praise her in the gates for all she has done. Mazal Tov!
