Born in Viña del Mar, Chile, Basso's artistic journey began there at the School of Fine Arts, followed by the University of Chile in Valparaiso, where he refined his craft. Early in his career, he was recognized for his talent, winning the Painting Prize at the International Art Biennale in Valparaiso, launching his career and setting him on the path to becoming one of Chile's most revered artists.
Basso's art transcends borders, gracing international biennales and solo exhibitions. In 2011, he received the honor of a retrospective at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago, Chile, a remarkable achievement crowned as the best exhibition of the year by the Museum Board. His talents also garnered international recognition when he received a commission from Queen Sophia of Spain to create two paintings for the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid. Furthermore, in 2007, he was commissioned to paint an important mural for the Office of Export Administration in Washington, D.C. Basso's influence continues to expand, with his masterpieces finding a permanent home in esteemed museums worldwide such as the National Museum of Fine Art in Santiago and Tokyo's renowned Hara Museum.
