The Largest Independent TV & Music platform in the world… Changing the way you watch television! Contributed By: Karen Wright (Dr.K) On July 7, 2016, the world's largest independent TV and music program, a new cable channel (995), launched in St. Louis to a television audience of 150,000 distributed Charter Spectrum GOTV channel subscribers covering 500,000 people, and will soon be launching in Los Angeles, Atlanta Houston and Dallas . GOTV on Charter, has already made history as St. Louis' only original content channel. The channel is a platform for locals to show off their talent, with films, documentaries and music provided exclusively by St. Louis locals and even ministries. GOTV will also air to about a million viewers in LA, which could present unique opportunities for St. Louis talent. Not only will GOTV have a television presence, but the network will also be available via internet platform and on radio (GO RADIO USA) which will make our talent even more accessible globally. "The connection from St. Louis to Hollywood starts here," says organizer Robert Owens and AGN Productions President, Bishop Michael Bates Sr. (also C.E.O. of Truth Network). "This really is an independent movement of artists and creators becoming superstars. Sponsors are banging down the door already, and with this increased demand, we actually had to widen our format and push back our kick-off date from July 1 to July 7." One of our newest productions to be added to the GOTV line up is “The April Simpson Show” with Emmy nominated journalist April Simpson who recently ended a 12-year news tenure at KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis,

where she excelled in relaying the news of the day to her loyal viewers and also hosted a talk show on KPLR 11 called “Afternoons on Eleven.”
Other popular names that can be seen on GOTV in the near future are: Smokey Robinson with his new skincare line for men and women, Leon Isaac Kennedy (aka “Too Sweet” “Penitentiary” I & II, “Body & Soul” which featured “The Champ” Muhammad Ali), Chea K. Woolfolk (Louisville, KY) and more… The original air date was July 1, but Owens says the date had to be pushed back in order to perfect the technology. A platform of this kind will combine music, film, TV shows and more all on one channel — something that isn't done often, but will be ground-breaking for participating talent. Another recognizable name that Owens mentions as part of the project is Chingy. The St. Louis rapper will be looking for new talent on GOTV, giving viewers the opportunity to submit videos via his show, to be featured in television productions and films shot in St. Louis. Daryel Oliver Mcclung, President of Atlanta Operations is working with Chingy and several independent artists and businesses in the Atlanta area to bridge the St. LouisAtlanta GOTV connection so that they can get the exposure they need. Oliver has an extensive history as a concert and music promoter and has worked with figures such as Coretta Scott King (M.L.K. Benefit Concert), Whitney Houston and many others. Daryel Oliver and the St. Louis Music Fest was recently honored by the City of St. Louis for his work. "We believe that this is the new face of St. Louis, LA, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas" Owens says. "Creative, no barriers, with people from all walks of life." Projects with the Webster University film department, one of the most recognized in the nation, are also in the works. One of their first projects is a reality show called The Loop, which will be shot in the Loop shopping district on Delmar, a historic landmark-- home of Chuck Berry’s Blueberry Hill Restaurant as well as the St. Louis Walk of Fame which honors individuals who were born in the Greater St. Louis area or spent their formative or creative years there, having made contributions to the culture of the United States. The show will also include music from independent musicians in St. Louis. Organizer Darnell West says, “Your expansion is based upon your exposure.” GOTV offers commercial bundles suitable for the smallest business owner to the largest corporation or even those who are simply looking for a platform to build their brand. “We build your brand while you build your business.” Visit our website: www.gotvst.louis.com and follow us on Facebook @GOTVSTLOUIS for the latest updates or if you are interested in advertising on GOTV. Love by Kathei McCoy
On March 29, 2013 at 7:29pm I received the phone call no parent ever wants to receive. T said the screaming voice on the other end of the phone line. I was in disbelief, in shock and after a few calls I got to the hospital. While sitting in the waiting room I kept telling myself, Maybe, he got shot in the leg, of course he s going to survive. When the doctor finally entered the . We tried everything waiting we could, but unfortunately, I slid down the wall and fell to the ground, in a daze. I could hear screaming, chaos and someone beating the wall. Hoping it was all a nightmare and not real I opened my eyes and saw the hand of the doctor extended toward me, I grabbed it and she walked me to the room where my only child, my 19-yearClark was lying dead of a gunshot wound to his neck.
The next few months would be filled with pain, despair, depression, anger, hopelessness and extreme sadness. While brushing my teeth one morning I heard the words, Don t die with him. I had to face the truth that my son wasn t away on vacation, spending the night at a house or off at basketball camp. I had to come to grips with the fact that I would never see him alive again and that no matter how long I waited at the door he going to turn that knob and come home. I made the decision not to die with my son, I made a decision to LIVE! It was this decision that restored my hope, got me out of the bed and fueled my choice to leave my 20-year secure management job and start my coaching business. It was this decision that gave me the strength to search out purpose in my s life was in vain. Because of this resolve I have been on a mission to help women break free from fear, negative mindsets and self-sabotaging behaviors so they can achieve the greatness they desire and deserve. Five years prior to began exhibiting talented basketball player I believed I was raising. He began talking back more, wanting to
running away, breaking curfew and carrying a gun. It seemed to happen so quickly and right before my eyes. L did see the signs but I chose to avoid them, thinking they would just go away. Before I knew it my baby was in and out of juvenile detention, involved in a gang and had turned anymore have happened. He was raised in a two-parent middle class home, attended church regularly, in fact his stepfather was a deacon and I am an ordained minister. He wanted for nothing. I spent many sleepless nights crying, praying and wishing my son would come home, be safe and eventually change his behavior. During this time, I sought out counseling and a personal

transformation coach. It was in doing this work that I had to face myself, my mistakes and my parenting. What I realized when he was a teenager but many years before. See I had only experienced true love with a man once, which was with the man I married. However, before then I had been used, abused and abandoned by men. I had low self-worth. I believed men were the answer to my happiness including my son. He was my possession, my son, my baby and no one, not even his birth father nor my husband could tell me how to raise him. What was best for him, and frankly, their opinions, decisions and discipline toward him . He was the man that would love me.
He and I had a special relationship where I allowed him to do basically whatever he wanted, and I defended him to anyone who objected. Eventually I learned I was doing this to earn his love. See I believed that if I said no to my son, This stemmed from the conditional love I experienced from past relationships, so I had grown a belief that if I didn t give men what they wanted, they would leave me. This included my son. That lie kept me bound to him and attributed to his unhealthy behavior.
burden I put on him to rescue me, complete me and be the man I never had. I got to hear from my son what he needed from me and his pardon that I was not responsible for his choices. As a result, our relationship dramatically changed, I was able say no to him without fear of abandonment. I started setting boundaries with him, I spoke up against his behavior and I allow him to speak to me disrespectfully. He started coming home and we started having open and honest conversations like we once had. While this phase was short lived because of his untimely death, I am grateful we made the change. After working with countless mothers of sons I am convinced that women who struggle with self-love, self-esteem and lack self-confidence have unwillingly used their sons to create what they believe is the unhealthy men.
I find that mothers of sons tend to be extreme, either under-nurturing or over-nurturing their sons. I have seen a range of behaviors, from mothers who treat their sons like their significant others to mothers who give too much adult responsibility to burden their young sons. As women, we are the natural nurturers and when we are emotionally unhealthy and unbalanced this leads us to either over or under loving our male children and I was once told that love their sons and raise their believe that statement sums up this very dynamic. Now I am on a mission to help mothers appropriately love their sons so they become emotionally healthy, strong, stable and safe men.

Here are 4 ways a mother can appropriately love their sons: 1. Set healthy boundaries
him to
touch (caressing, kissing or hugging) to get his way or he will threaten bad behavior, rebellion, etc. Use words and body language that conveys you are the parent standing firm in your decision.
2. Cultivate his unique gifts & talents Allow him to find his creative outlet and support them. Be mindful not to lean towards placing him in sports or activities you desire for them. Instead help him find what he is good at and enjoys.
3. Be available to him Sons learn emotions from their mothers early on. It is important that we teach him trust and security. This is developed when we are involved in his life, interact with him positively and are sensitive to his needs. When mothers are emotionally volatile sons learn to avoid, lie and hide the truth. 4. Nurture him Find the balance of nurturing by giving him affection, verbal support, unconditional love and allowing him to fail without judgment or ridicule.
The role of a mother is essential in ensuring that our black boys grow up into mature, emotionally healthy, successful and responsible men. I am committed to helping mothers avoid the tragedy of losing a son. Kathei McCoy is a Certified Life Coach, Freedom Facilitator, Speaker, Author

Can’t catch a legit break… So to my understanding, there is a new law in effect that is supposed to allow convicted felons to wipe out old charges that are within the guidelines that Mayor Bevins came up with to help felons get back on track with the basics of life… job, home, and social stability? The steps to get this approved are just another way to line the pockets of the politicians. I am a convicted felon of 21 years. I’ve paid the first 40.00 to get the records that would normally be free. The the next step is to pay 500.00 for a judge to review them, and then expunge. If I’m not mistaken, isn’t the purpose of this law to help us get back on our feet? How are we to come up with 540.00 to rectify our past and get a fresh start?
Before this became law, I tried three times to get expunged, and I was turned down three times. So now I have to come up with $540.00 to erase my past that I’ve lived through every day? Every time I’ve applied for a job I’ve been forced to relive that moment over and over. So, tell me again how do we justify this dollar amount? No matter how you look at it, we are still being punished for our past actions and can’t catch a break. I’ve even gone back to school and joined organization after organization, only to be reminded of the past. This is the only trouble I have ever been in, yet I continue to be punished, when does it end? How do you live without being ridiculed for a past experience that didn’t go right? One thing I’ve learned is to keep my head up and keep applying myself to do well in spite of……. Now let’s see how this new law pans out. How many people will really be able come up with the funds so they can get a fair chance at life again? Feeling concerned, Carletta Kilgore

About Boys & Girls Clubs of America For more than 100 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (GreatFutures.org) has enabled young people most in need to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Today, more than 4,100 Clubs serve nearly 4 million young people annually through Club membership and community outreach. Clubs are located in cities, towns, public housing and on Native lands throughout the country, and serve military families in BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military installations worldwide. They provide a safe place, caring adult mentors, fun, friendship, and high-impact youth development programs on a daily basis during critical non-school hours. Priority programs emphasize academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. In a Harris Survey of alumni, 57 percent said the Club saved their lives. National headquarters are located in Atlanta. Learn more at http://www.bgca.org/facebook and http://bgca.org/twitter.
