What is Hazardous Dust?
Every person working with hazardous dusts should know about the risks to their health. Dust related diseases can be life-threatening, leading to permanent disability and early death. Particles can be so small that they are invisible to the human eye, and can remain airborne in still conditions for as long as 12 days. Festool are proactive in developing solutions that are safe to use, while at the same time increase productivity and quality of work. Strict quality control and independent testing ensure Festool products are a safe and effective solution to meet today’s working demand.
Hazardous dust is used to describe the different types of dust you are likely to find on a building and construction site. These dusts can be broken down to the following types:
Silica Dust
Lead Dust
→ Engineered stone >93% → Sandstone <68% → Fibre cement sheet <60% → Brick <60% → Concrete <40%
→ Lead paint
Timber Dust
Asbestos Dust
→ Natural hard and soft wood → MDF
→ Vinyl floor tiles → Cement roof sheeting → Wall lining → Flue pipes → Lagging and jointing material
→ Plywood

Festool Is Independently Tested To Comply
Does your system comply?
Festool work closely with independent monitoring agencies to test Festool systems and accurately measure hazardous dust exposure for different applications. The tests are undertaken with special monitoring equipment that is fitted to the user in an environment that replicates a normal work place. The tests are then performed for 3-6 hours to replicate the applications on a typical jobsite. The monitoring equipment collects the breathable dust at the same location where the user would normally breath in the dust. The results are then recorded in a test report by the same occupational hygienist that completed the testing.

Largest Range Of Accessories For Dust Extractors In Australia Cyclone Pre Separator Working with a high volume of dust?
Dust is deadliest when it can't be seen at all. Your main priority should be protecting your health as best you can.
The CT Separator is an anti-static three-step filtration system that separates and collects large debris and coarse dust before it reaches the mobile dust extractor. Consistent high suction power can be achieved by reducing the load on the main filter which results in up to 80% of mineral dust and up to 95% of coarse particles being captured. This means you can work faster and cleaner.
Bluetooth Technology Unbeatable convenience when cleaning up or working with cordless tools.
The CT MIDI comes standard with Bluetooth. Automatically switch on your extractor via remote control or the Bluetooth® battery pack.
Just retrofit the Bluetooth® module to a CT 26/36/48 mobile dust extractors and operate the dust extractor easily by remote control or Bluetooth® battery pack.
The combination of Bluetooth® module and Festool Bluetooth® battery pack now starts the dust extractor automatically even when working with cordless tools.
Switch on your dust extractor via the remote control right on the suction hose and save time by not having to go to the extractor. Ideal for cleaning between work steps.
Flat Filters Wide range of flat filters enable you to perform different applications plus maximize the capacity of your filter bag as it is allowed to unfold easily and expand to almost 100%.

5 Key Steps To Working Safely With Hazardous Dust Festool have specialised in dry dust free solutions since 1964, pioneering vacuum extraction in their tool design.
The Festool TS 55 Plunge Saw System
was tested at
It is critical that a SYSTEM is used, as only having an approved dust extractor will not meet the regulations. The tool and accessories being used are just as important as the extractor as they capture dust at the source, allowing you to work safely with the hazardous material.
0.01mg/m3
for Silica dust, significantly
less
than the regulation 0.1mg/m3.
How can you meet the regulations? In order to meet regulations when working with hazardous materials you need to minimise your exposure to the products, and especially dusts. This means using the appropriate respiratory mask, dust capture and extraction equipment that meet the legal requirement for the application. WorkSafe are now issuing fines for people who don't comply with the new legislation.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Protective Equipment
Use Local Exhaust Ventilation
Choose The Right Dust Extractor
→ Respiratory dust mask
→ Plunge saw with on tool extraction
→ L, M or H Class
→ Grinding hood/shroud
→ Dust Separator when working with high volume dust
→ Personal protective equipment * refer to Safework Australia policies
Best Practice → Choose applications that minimize dust
→ AutoClean
→ Use wet cutting where necessary → Eliminate the use of hazardous material
Step 5
Safe Disposal of Waste → Dust bags are a key requirement when working with hazardous dust → Dust bags must have a seal and be sealed for safe disposal

HEPA Filters HEPA filters capture 99.99% of all particles down to .3 microns. HEPA filters (High Efficiency Particulate Air) have quickly become the new standard for wood dust collection, both in the workshop and on the jobsite. Measured in microns, wood dust is particularly troublesome to remove from an environment once it is airborne. Eliminate the majority of the dust created at the source before it is ever released into your environment.

Concrete Dust Solutions Grinding Festool diamond grinders are perfect for larger surface area applications. The machines remove concrete, screed and coatings on hard sublayers with maximum efficiency because the speed is adapted to the diamond tools. Smart features allow work close to wall edges, while wall and depth stops protect and prevent the need for subsequent surface repair. Vibration dampening on the auxiliary or D handle ensures less fatigue and safe guidance.

Natural & Engineered Stone Dust Solutions Cutting Silica dust is particularly dangerous in both natural and engineered stone. When worked on, silica is released as a fine dust, 100 times smaller than a grain of sand. These fine grains can remain airborne for hours and penetrate deep into lungs. There is no treatment to reverse this damage or safely remove dust. The required dust extractor may vary depending on the different type of stone dust you are working with.
