CLAAS WESTERN Dorchester Young Farmers Event

WESTERN Dorchester recently held an evening event for Young Farmers. The Sales Team held a challenge where participants were required to use a Telehandler to get a ball through a basketball hoop. Entrants were charged £1 a go and whoever had the fastest time won a pair of overalls, which were kindly donated by the Parts Department.

The challenge raised £48 for Children with Cancer!

CLAAS EASTERN Driffield Show

On Wednesday 19th July 2023, CLAAS Eastern were one of the tradestands at the Driffield Show. CLAAS Eastern used this as an opportunity to fundraise for CLAAS’ nominated charity this year, Children with Cancer.

A tractor, which was parked as part of their display in their tradestand area was filled with balloons and spectators were asked to make a donation and participate in guessing how many balloons were in the tractor cab. A total of 84 balloons were placed inside the tractor cab, which was guessed correctly by Harry B Weighell, for which he won both a toy & model CLAAS Lexion Combine.

CLAAS Eastern raised a total of £283.40.

If you would like to run this event at one of your local shows please get in touch with your charity committee representatives.

CLAAS EASTERN Catfoss Tractor Run

Using Volunteer Days for Blood Donation

CLAAS Eastern Catfoss have become regular holders of the Catfoss Tractor Run. Across the years, they have raised over £10,000 for a range of charities. This year on Sunday 2nd July, they held their fifth local tractor run in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research. The charity selected for the 2023 tractor run is a charity close to people both past and present at Catfoss. Every year the tractor participation averages around 80 tractors, which again was achieved for this year. The tractors went on a beautiful route of 33 miles around the local village including along the coast on the cliff top.

A huge thank you goes out to CLAAS Eastern for their support, the great staff (present and retired), family & friends and the wonderful locals who always show continued support, all of whom help to make it such a fantastic event each year.

A total of £2,533.50 was raised!

Great British Beach Clean

Organised by the Marine Conservation Society, every year in September across the UK, thousands of people head to the coast to take part in the Great British Beach Clean. The Great British Beach clean is a weeklong citizen science event, which takes place up and down the UK across a range of beaches.

The litter data collection on the beach cleans drives the conservation work carried out by the Marine Conservation Society, helping them campaign for chance and also feeds into the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC). The introduction of the plastic bag charge, banning of microplastics in personal care products, better wet wipe labelling and support for a tax on single-use plastic items has all been developed from the data collected so far but there is still so much more to do to stop the litter ruining beaches across the UK and rest of the world.

This year the event is taking place from Friday 15th to Sunday 24th September 2023, and getting involved is easy with the use of your Volunteer Days!

Blood Donations

Trevor Tyrrell, CEO of CLAAS UK has recently received his certificate for his 50th blood donation and he is now on his 52nd!

As Trevor has progressed through CLAAS UK he has built a range of working relationships and friendships with many employees. Around 10 years ago, one of which re-inspired him to start up blood donations, something Trevor had not done for almost 25 years.

Roy Cansdale who used to work for MANNS Saxham was diagnosed with leukemia during his time with the company, unfortunately for Roy this led to his early retirement from the company whilst he underwent treatment for the leukemia. Thanks to his treatment, Roy is still here today.

It is thanks to the blood donations from people like Trevor that Roy’s treatment was such a success story. Trevor goes as often as he possibly can to make donations, by travelling to Cambridge now he is able to donate both Plasma and Platelets making each donation the equivalent of three donations. A text message is also sent to donor’s telling them where their blood donation has been sent. The blood donated is used in various medical scenarios, including leukemia which is a broad term for cancers of the blood cells. Blood cancer patients are often treated with stem cell and bone marrow donations.

Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike for Macmillan Cancer Support

On 9th September 2023, Paula Brooks (Business Administrator, WESTERN Frome) is participating in the Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike is full marathon where participants will hike along the Dorset Coast from Weymouth to Wareham, known as the Jurassic Coast. Covering the cliff path and countryside with many big climbs and descents down to sea, whilst taking in famous sights such as Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove along the stunning Dorset Coast covering 50 kilometres.

Macmillan Cancer Support are here to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. The charity is 98% funded by voluntary donations, making fundraising an essential provision to them to ensure they can deliver the vital support people living with cancer require. Macmillan provide services for people at every stage of their cancer experience, whether it be emotional, practical, physical or financial support, whilst also providing healthcare professionals with up-to-date resources, tools, information and training courses to better help them support those living with cancer. Macmillan also continuously research into cancer care to understand the numbers, needs and experiences of people living with cancer so the charity can continue to provide their services and advocacy where they are needed most.

Paula has told us her reason for choosing to take on this incredible challenge.

“The reason for doing this Mighty Hike for Macmillian, is because my mum has been diagnosed with an aggressive carcinoma, and Macmillian have been amazing with their support and advice. At 78, my mum has been in farming all her life and now has to work and fight harder than ever, going through radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Raising money for an amazing charity, such as Macmillian, is something I can do, so that they are able to continue their work supporting people going through this terrible fight against cancer.”

CLAAS has sponsored Paula £100 to get her started. If you would like to sponsor Paula, please go to her Just Giving page using the QR code. For more info, go to www.macmillan.org.uk
