HETERONORMATIVE Adjective / het·ero·nor·ma·tive

The assumption that heterosexuality is the “standard” sexual orientation and that all other sexual orientations deviate from this norm. It also presumes a nonexistent gender binary by recognizing only male and female genders.

Five dimensions of heteronormativity show inflexibility and discretion of dimensions rather than realizing the fluidity of these dimensions

Architectural representation of inflexible heteronormative dimensions as barrier walls

Creating voids to defy or break the inflexible boundaries

Creating a gallery sequence out of these voids and boundaries

TRADITION KU Traditions & Generations Welcome Center ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II / spring 2017 / second YEAR

the Campus

university of kansas

The University of Kansas located in Lawrence, KS is spread out along Jayhawk Bouldvard, but the current welcome center is about 2 miles away from the Student Union where a lot of incoming freshman activities take place. The parking lot adjacent from the Alumni Center (across the street from the Union) would be a much more ideal location for the welcome center, and would allow for many other opportunities if connected to the existing Alumni Center The concept of curves and circles are used throughout the Traditions and Generations Center, because even though it is used for incoming freshmen, it ties to the alumni center creating a bond between students and alumni that comes full circle.
