e m o c l e W r u o to m r o F Sixth A message fro m our Head G irl
Welcome to Clapton Sixth Form! My name is Falak and I’m proud to say that I’m the current Head Girl. Being Head Girl has been an incredibly enjoyable experience as it has allowed me to implement the changes my peers and I talk about. This role has given me the chance to voice the students’ problems and opinions to staff
members more freely, making sure that I get the best response. Not only this, but being able to represent a school I have loved for almost seven years is incredibly rewarding, as I hope more students find reason to come here. For me, the main changes I want to implement are the extra curricular events in the Sixth Form. I strongly believe that a big part of
wellbeing is also to have fun. For example, last month my friends and I organised the Halloween Fashion show, which brought together staff and students for a hilariously amazing show. Next month we also hope to organise Xmas Factor. The biggest success of mine, however, was being able to successfully start the first ever student run newspaper. This has been an incredible journey as I have seen it bring together many people, those helping to create it but also those reading it. We currently have two issues out already, all student made, and are working on our December edition. In the future, I hope to encourage and help the younger years to organise their own events, as they too have many amazing ideas. At the moment, I’m starting to work on a charity event with Year 12s whereby members of the Sixth Form bring in food and necessities for Christmas so we can provide for the homeless this holiday.

y h W e s o o ch ? s l r i G Gabriella Bandeira YR 12 Why did you choose to come to Clapton Girls’ Sixth Form? I chose to come to CGA because I love the sense of community. There is an instant sense of team. In my old school, boys dominated the school and class room and often treated girls in a certain way, a way that was not always beneficial to the girls. Do you feel as though you are missing out in any way by it being a single sex Sixth Form? Honestly no. Absolutely not. If anything I am gaining from this experience.

Do you feel as though you are missing out in any way by it being a single sex Sixth Form? Missing out on what? Boys? They exist outside of school, and in the rest of your life!
How do you think CGA is different from a mixed Sixth Form? The competition. Maybe the competition and potential challenges against the opposite sex could work in your favour depending on your personality. What would you say is the best thing about an all girls Sixth Form? Empowerment!
“
How do you think CGA is different from a mixed Sixth Form? I think a mixed gender Sixth Form will be more competitive. We are all friends, It’s a place of alliance not competition. What would you say is the best thing about an all girls Sixth Form? I think there is more understanding and we can relate to teachers better.

Welcome! Editor’s Note I am very honoured to present to you the first student-run newspaper, brought to you by an incredible team of people. Here, we hope you find all the information and advice you need to be able to make the best decisions in this year but also to enjoy it and make the most out of it. Everything in this newspaper has been created by students in year 13, right from the biggest articles down to the tiny details of the art pieces. As students who have just completed year 12 ourselves, we picked up on a lot of information that we wish we knew at the start of the year, and compiled it all into one paper for you guys. From the whole Newspaper Team, we wish you good luck in the first term.
The Sixth Form Team Welcome to Clapton Girls’ Academy Sixth Form! Our office door is always open so please don’t hesitate to see us if you have any questions.

Providing guidance & support We’re one big family here and go out of our way to ensure students are welcomed and supported. External students are assigned a ‘Big Sister’ who will provide guidance, share notes and revision resources and welcome you to our Sixth Form. Sisters are matched based on subjects studied providing essential advice and tips for Year 12s as they begin the first year of their courses.
Year 12 students train as mentors and support Year 7
students with developing confidence. The project is overseen by clinical psychologists and you will receive a Level 2 certificate at the end (equivalent to a GCSE). The aim? To build strong bonds with the Year 7 students so that they feel they have a support network in school.

Top tips for surviving and r u o y n i g n i thriv first term at university
made me doubt myself and overthink everything. Only to realise that’s not true. I have to travel, I might end up going home late when there’s an after class event and I might be tired but this doesn’t mean I’m not getting the full experience. Living at home or on campus doesn’t matter, as long as you know you’re making the most of your It ’s nerve opportunities. wracking and And plus if you truly want to scary I know, move out don’t but a worry, you have a second and simple ‘Hi’ third year.
5 top tips for surviving and thriving in your first term of university 1. Talk to people A simple ‘Hi’ takes you a long way in your first year at university. Don’t be afraid to simply turn around to someone sitting next to you and say ‘Hi’. Everyone is in the same boat as you. When people used to tell me this while in Sixth Form I didn’t believe them, but now I’m the one giving this advice. It’s nerve wracking and scary I know, but a simple ‘Hi’ to someone can turn out to be a ‘Hi’ to your new best friend! The person I said ‘Hi’ to while at an open event turned out to be one of my closest friends who’s also in my class. 2. Join societies & go to events If you’re interested in a society join in, don’t second think. Uni might be stressful, especially when deadlines are close, but always give time for something you love. In Year 12 I used to do yoga after school but I stopped after a while. Now at uni I stay after school, catch up on my work and then head off to a yoga session. What’s even more fun is that you get to meet people who are from different courses.

3. Be aware of what’s going on at your university Follow your to someone ca universities n social media, 5.Don’t forget turn out to be a why you’re at this way you’re ‘Hi’ to your ne constantly w uni aware of new Not to kill the fun best friend! events or of first term or even opportunities first year, but don’t happening. It was through forget there is work Facebook I got added on a to do even on your first term. My group chat with all the people advice is stay on top of it as it on my course and this way I was comes, don’t forget about it. It’s able to make friends before even really easy to forget about it when starting the course. Being aware you get so much independence of what’s happening even if and honestly even I’m still figuring you’re not involved in it, just gives out how to organise my time. My you a feeling that you’re part of a top tip is just make sure you know community. when your deadlines are.

4. Living at home or on campus doesn’t matter Someone once told me that I wouldn’t get the full uni experience while staying at home. That stuck with me while I started university and it really
