WHAT WILL I LEARN?
GCSE Art Textiles is a multidisciplinary practice exploring a wide-range of materials, techniques and processes such as stitching, printing, weaving and dyeing. The course focuses on developing ideas and experimentation giving an understanding of the important role that textiles artists and designers play in creative industries such as fashion, theatre and retail.
You will study the work of artists, photographers and designers and work within a wide range of categories. Drawing is an essential skill in the development process of Textile Design, from initial visual research, recording from primary sources, through to the translation of ideas into finished designs. yourself. or functional products. and applique. Component 1: Personal Portfolio Two sketchbook projects are completed in Years 10 and 11, with resolved work produced in any media forming a portfolio.
Component 2: Externally Set Assignment A preparatory sketchbook is produced in 10 weeks on a theme set by the exam board. The resolved piece is then produced in a timed (10 hour) exam.
In both components 1 & 2, students create work for at least some (or all) of these areas: constructed textiles, digital textiles, dyed fabrics, printed fabrics, fashion design, installed textiles, soft furnishings, stitched
