Why does attendance matter? Having excellent attendance is key to your daughter doing well at school, and will set her up with good routines for later life and the working world. She will have the opportunity to: Make friends and feel included Learn effectively and develop new skills Increase her confidence and self-esteem Improve her social skills Achieve her potential and fulfil her aspirations The academy and parents are partners in making this happen. As parents or guardians, it is your responsibility to make sure that your daughter makes the most of her time here by ensuring that she attends regularly.
What is ‘outstanding’ attendance? As an ‘Outstanding’ academy, we expect all students to be in school every day. Our attendance target for all students is 96.5%. We want to ensure that all students achieve their full potential!
u know... o y d i D An attendance record of 90% is the same as missing one whole day every two weeks. If this continues from Year 7 to Year 11, a total of six months learning will be lost! In the UK, 73% of students with attendance over 95% achieve 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE. Only 3% of students with attendance below 50% achieve the same grades.

Punctuality All students should arrive at school between 8.00am and 8.40am. They should be lined up outside their tutor room by 8.40am. Students arriving after 8.45am will be late and will miss out on important notices and activities during collective time. Breakfast Club starts in the Dining Pavilion at 8.00am and is a great way for your daughter to begin her day. Breakfast is available for purchase and there are activities on each morning.
How do we support our students? Every week Students do tutor time attendance activities and attendance and punctuality are tracked in student planners.
Every 2 weeks Your daughter could win a Raffle Prize in assembly (ÂŁ10 voucher) for 100% attendance or punctuality.
Every half term If your daughter has 100% attendance over a half term, a postcard will be sent home congratulating your daughter and thanking you for your support.
Every term If your daughter has 100% attendance or excellent punctuality over a whole term, she could win a Raffle Prize and will receive a badge and certificate.
Every school year At the end of every school year, students will 100% attendance and punctuality receive a Clapton All Star Trophy.
How do we support our students? If your daughter is absent, you will be sent: Absence texts: our automated system detects an ‘absent without reason’ register mark and sends you a text. A formal letter and a copy of your daughter’s attendance grid: these are sent when we have cause for concern and provide you with more detailed information about your daughter’s absence. We also hold attendance meetings at the academy. These may be with the Head of Progress, Academy Attendance Manager, or another member of staff. These meetings provide an opportunity for you to discuss attendance strategies with our staff and ask any questions you might have. Please contact our Attendance Manager using the school number and extension 252 if you would like to arrange a meeting about your daughter’s attendance. Hackney Learning Trust Attendance Service may make contact with you if there are ongoing concerns about your daughter’s attendance or punctuality.
How can you support your daughter? Talk about the importance of attending school every day and help your daughter maintain a daily routine e.g. packing her bag the night before. Try not to schedule dental or medical appointments during the school day and ensure that your daughter only stays at home if she is genuinely ill. Ensure that the school always has up-to-date contact information for you. Encourage your daughter to get actively involved in academy life, including afterschool activities. Share any concerns you or your daughter might have with staff. Inform the academy by telephone or email on the first morning, and every morning, of absence by calling 0208 985 6641 and extension 1 to reach the Absence Line. The Absence Email is: absence@clapton.hackney.sch.uk.
