The Patch

What is it?

A series of three sections or patches of reef. Not recommended in rough weather

Where is it?

The Patch is approximately 8 nautical miles south east of the harbour entrance. GPS 30. 25.509 - 153.12. 230

What’s there?

Three patches of reef running north south for approximately 2 miles. The reef comes in from a sand and gravel bottom of 50m to a hard rocky kelp covered reef 35m deep.

For the kids

Good for kids as not too deep and not too far from the harbour. What fish should I target?

Pearl Perch, Snapper, Kingfish, Samson fish, Trag and Venus Tusk Fish, Spanish and Spotted Mackerel during the summer months.

What bait should I use?

Fresh baits including squid pilchards or strip baits fished on a paternoster rig just off the bottom. Live baits are effective as well.

Top Tips

Don’t be afraid to move around as it is a large section of reef and fish will hold at different points at different times.

What lures are best?

Knife jigs and soft plastics. Trolled hard body lures in the summer months.

Best time to fish?

Great spot all year round

What dream fish might I catch?

Large Snapper, Samson Fish and Spanish Mackerel.
