Clarion, Pa. - Hundreds of students and handfuls of faculty and staff met with Clarion University President Karen Whitney at the Student Inaugural Celebration on Wednesday, April 13, in the Gemmell Multipurpose Room. Chris Myers managed the event, and said, “It is a great opportunity for students to get to know President Whitney.” Myers, of Bethel Park, Pa., is a senior in the college of business, a student trustee and president of the University Activities Board. He said he was optimistic about Whitney’s capability as Clarion’s 16th president. “We’re so fortunate to have her expertise and leadership,” Myers said. “What we’re looking for here is a systematic socialization in an informal setting,” Wright said. PRSSA describes itself on it’s website as a national organization dedi-
cated to preparing highly qualified public relations professionals. Wright said joining PRSSA “is a great opportunity to get connected with the professionals
in the field all over the country.” PRSSA members said they chose Kutter’s to host the event because it was new to the area and seemed like a fun place. Jen Hemenger, a public relations major from Erie, Pa., said, “We wanted to do something exciting to recruit new members, and to get more people involved” Hemenger has been a PRSSA member for two years, and is currently serving as public relations director for PRSSA. “If you want to advance yourself as quickly as possible,” Wright said, “get involved.”
