The advent of the 20th century brought with it tremendous changes that affected all aspects of life. Innovations in areas such as technology,medicineandpsychologyopened vitalpathwaystowardabetterunderstanding of our world. In the realm of art, new forms of expression took hold that dramatically altered the type of imagery that was considered acceptable. The move toward abstraction focused the viewer’s eye on the beauty of pure line, texture and color. Although the human form still appeared, as well as recognizable objects, artists such as Kandinsky, Miró and the trailblazers of the Post-Warperiodsearchedformeaninginthe sometimes chaotic drips, splashes and irregular forms that filled their work. Whether their subject matter was more traditional or purely abstract, these 20th century artists were masters of the modern esthetic.
