2015 NYNÄSHAMN! A world of tastes, experiences and inspiration by the sea. Travel through the dramatic landscape of the archipelago with an unbroken horizon stretching out in front of you, visit a cultural event or kick back at a spa. Action-packed or relaxed, on your own or with a guide - choose the way that suits you. The countryside and outer archipelago of Nynäshamn has been appreciated since the Stone Age. The modern history of Nynäshamn begins with the construction of the railway from Stockholm in the early 1900s. As industrial development took place a hundred years ago, the population increased, as did the importance of the port. Nynäshamn also became known for its summer homes, seaside hotels and sailing centres. During the 1912 Olympic Games, the sailing competitions were held in what is still one of Sweden’s best sailing waters, next to a beautiful promenade and the world’s longest outdoor gym. Today Nynäshamn has some of the best Sweden has to offer - magnificent countryside, a vibrant city centre, several thousand outstanding islands, including Landsort, a uniquely picturesque island situated at the southernmost outpost of the Stockholm archipelago. We also boast the east coast’s perhaps best surfing, locally produced delicacies and an exciting cultural history, just a stone’s throw from the capital. Visit www.visitnynashamn.se - or come to the Tourist Office – if you want to book an experience or relaxation. The train from Stockholm to Nynäshamn takes only 60 minutes. If you prefer to take a car, it’s only about 30.

Welcome! Nynäshamn Tourist Information Office

FISHING HARBOUR

In the Fishing Harbour, you will find Scandinavia’s biggest floating breakwater, a smokehouse, restaurants, the Tourist Information Office, the play ship Hoppetossa and a nice relaxing atmosphere. The harbour shops offer everything from ice cream, crafts and delicacies to Fairtrade-produced gifts and interior fittings.

STRANDVÄGEN The most popular recreation area with Nynäshamn’s inhabitants, Strandvägen, which was constructed in conjunction with the sailing events of the Stockholm Olympics in 1912, is a charming road of a few kilometres that winds along the sea. At the end of Strandvägen, which has Sweden’s longest out door gym, there is the wonderful Lövhagen wilderness area with narrow trails and the ever-present sea. There is also a popular café that is open during the summer season.

NYNÄS HAVSBAD

The island of Trehörningen has, and has had since the beginning of the 20th century, what is probably Sweden’s most exclusive spa facility (with a restaurant). At Trehörningen, you can also enjoy the most unusual heterogeneous buildings in the area – from grand Swedish national romantic to hypermodern functional style. Don’t miss a visit to the old water tower, which no longer offers drinking water but breathtaking views over the Baltic Sea. 4

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE VIKINGS

RUNE STONE FROM THE VIKING AGE

The Viking Age has left its mark on Nynäshamn. There are as many as 27 rune stones in the municipality, which makes it one of the municipalities with the most rune stones in Sweden. Several of these rune stones are along the old road between Djursnäs and Vansta, the so-called Runstensvägen (”the rune stone road”). There are also many grave fields, as this was a densely populated district during the Iron Age. The cultural landscape is strikingly beautiful. A suggestion to enhance your excursion is to visit the beautiful churches in Ösmo and Sorunda or discover the mysticism surrounding the authentic beacon on Vårdkaseberget, which also offers magnificent views over Himmerfjärden. Runstensvägen is best followed in your own car. Nynäshamn Tourist Information Office will provide you with a map and more detailed information on where the different remains can be found. We can also help you hire a car. 21

GOLF

Play a round at Nynäshamn golf club in Körunda, outside Ösmo. You will find solace for the soul on the popular 27-hole course, situated in the rural setting by Lake Muskan. The three 9-hole courses are called Sjö (Lake), Berg (Mountain) and Dal (Valley) and can be combined to create more variation. There is also a 9-hole pay-and-play course. There is a restaurant with food and drink in the clubhouse and in the neighbouring hotel. If you would like to stay, there are rooms just a few metres from the tee. Times are available daily. Pre-book. Price for 18-hole round, adult: Weekday 400 SEK, weekends 500 SEK. Juniors: Daily 200 SEK. Clubs are available to hire for 100 SEK. This information is subject to change.
