Withtheendoftheyear.Rapidlyapproaching,boththe racingandspeedseasonhavenowfinishedfor2022.But thisdoesn’tstoptheVintageSportsCarClubfromhaving funwiththeirvintagecars,theyjustheadforthehills. Trialsareaverysociableformofmotorsportaseachcar canhaveasmanycrewmembersasthecarcanhold.In mostmotorsportyouneedalightcarforspeed,butinTrials youneedaheavycartocutthroughthemud.Mostvintage carshaveverynarrowwheelsandtyres,whichareidealto cutthroughmudorloosesurfaces.Addingextracrew membersaddstotheweight,andthenwehavethestrange sightof‘Bouncing’.ThegoalinTriallingeventsistogetas highupthehillaspossible.Thecourseismarkedby indicatorboards,andthecarismarkedbyhowfarit progresseswithoutgoingbackwards.Whenthecarstarts

ReplacingtheFordModelTasthelargestvolume producedcarin1972wastheVolkswagenBeetle.Beetle productionranfrom1938until2003withover21,500,000 built.Itwasdesignedasa2-doorrear-enginedeconomy car.The Peoplescar wasa concept formulated byAdolf Hitlerin Nazi Germany asacheap, simplecar tomass producefor peopleto useonthe newroad networkin Germanyin the1930s.

TheMGSVwasastrangecar.Itwasmanufacturedatthe QvalemanufacturingplantatModernainItalyafterMGhad boughtthecompany.TheSVwasbasedontheQvale Mangustaplatform,formerlytheDeTomasoBiguà,which hadusedcomponentsfromtheFordMustang.The conversionfromdesignclaymodeltoproductioncarwas donebyaSwedishcompany,Caran.Theproduction processwascomplex,usingcarbon-fibretomakethebody panels,whichwereproducedintheUKandthenshipped toItaly.Thebodyshellsfittedtothechassisandrunning gearbeforebeingshippedfromItalytoLongbridgefor finishingandusedseveralinteriorandexteriorFiatpartsas wellaspartsfromtheMGTFandRover75.Thebase modelcost£65,000andtheXpowerSVRcost£83,000.
