Bridal Brunch

Traditionally, the bridal luncheon is a party that is hosted by the bride for her attendants. It usually takes place a day or two before the wedding to allow the whole bridal party to be in town. This is typically the time for the bride to honor her friends and tell them “thank you” for their friendship during such a transitional time in her life and any support they have offered through the engagement period. There has been a recent trend of mothers, grandmothers and even close aunts taking on the responsibility of hosting to take the stress off of the bride. Most importantly, remember that this is a flexible, fun event and you can do whatever works for you! Who’s Invited? First and foremost, this is a ladies-only event. Keep your guest list intimate to allow for more quality time with the women who are closest to you. Your bridesmaids should be included along with your mother and grandmother, if you would like. It’s also nice to include your future mother-in-law and any of the groom’s sisters. You will also want to include any junior bridesmaids and flower girls.

25 19803.1.6.024.025.BridalBrunchEditorialAB.indd 2

4/11/17 4:35 PM

What about gifts? Unlike showers, the bridal luncheon doesn’t center on gifts or games (thank goodness right!). Typically, there is a “no gifts” rule for everyone except for the bride. This is usually the first time the bride has her bridal party together and is a great opportunity to present all of her attendants with their gifts. This is also a good time for the bride to hand out to her bridesmaids any jewelry and accessories she would like them to wear for her wedding day. What type of party? Despite the name, the bridal “luncheon” can be anything you’d like it to be. Afternoon tea, brunch and lunch are most traditional, especially if the event is the same day as the rehearsal dinner, but a cocktail party or even a casual get-together at the host’s home would be equally nice. Pick something that fits your style and personality, but don’t be afraid to be unique and do something memorable. 26 19803.1.6.026.027.BridalBrunchEditorialCD.indd 1

The Details are in the Ceremony Written by: Judy M. McNichols

The wedding ceremony is the heart and soul of your wedding day. As the centerpiece of a couple’s special day, the ceremony sets the tone for the entire wedding celebration and for the rest of a couple’s relationship together. It is important to create a wedding ceremony with each couple that is as unique as they are because each couple’s story is unique. An officiant will work with the couple to write a ceremony that reflects their relationship, their values, their own cultural heritage. Since the couple works with the officiant to write their ceremony, the couple is in charge of the process and can have peace of mind that their ceremony is truly everything they want. Their wedding ceremony and day will truly be memorable. And, why do I officiate weddings: I love stories and every couple is a story. I admire people’s courage, daring and hope. It is not possible to commit to another person without courage, daring and hope that undergirds all that is life. I love the hope and happiness that fills the venue and surrounds the couple on their special day. It makes my heart sing! I believe this responsibility is a sacred commitment, one that is based on the couple’s wishes and joys, one that assists the couple to be calm and present during this most wonderful of occasions. For more information about Judy, see her ad on page 39.

What To Ask HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN OFFICIATING? Verify that they have been in the business for awhile, have performed a number of other weddings, and have a list of references for you to check.

ARE YOU ABLE TO ACCOMMADATE DIFFERENT/ OR UNIQUE TRADITIONS OR REQUESTS? Make sure you will be able to incorporate your cultural traditions and that there is a way to include children or parents in the ceremony as you desire.

CAN WE CHOOSE OUR OWN READINGS? Find out if you are able to personalize the homily and the readings or if the officiant prefers to use a basic ceremony plan.

CAN WE WRITE OUR OWN VOWS? If wanting to do this, look for an officiant with experience in coaching couples that write their own vows.

DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA TO ATTEND THE REHEARSAL OR TO TRAVEL?

lanc de Bleu Cuvée Mousseux continues to gain popularity in the Wedding Community. Its delightful combination of taste, visual appeal and soothing color is what makes Blanc de Bleu the quintessential bubbly for the wedding toast. Its crystal-clear virgin glass bottle shows off the bubbly’s gemstone blue hue. This shade of blue symbolizes loyalty and faith, exactly how couples feel toward each other when they exchange their vows. When you combine its clear blue color with its classy label, Blanc de Bleu looks as stunning as the newly married couple ready to toast a new beginning.

A Dry, Crisp Bubbly with a Hint of Blueberry As sparkling wine continues to grow in popularity, Blanc de Bleu is also winning fans for its taste. Made with grapes grown in Northern California vineyards, known for their cool and clear breezes, Blanc de Bleu bubbly tickles the palate with a subtle hint of organic blueberry. “The base wine of cuvee for Blanc de Bleu is the same fruit I use in our high-end, methode champenoise programs,” explains

Bob Stashak, champagne master for Blanc de Bleu. “We add just enough organic blueberry juice concentrate to make a subtle impact. People are more pleasantly surprised to find the wine dry and crisp, instead of being another overly sweet, flavored wine.” Blanc de Bleu’s beautiful blue color is different from what you will see in any other sparkling wine. The vision behind creating Blanc de Bleu was to give people a reason to celebrate. Elegant packaging for this dry, crisp sparkling wine inside a striking bottle has captured the fascination of couples everywhere. You should not be surprised when you see Blanc de Bleu at the next wedding or big celebration you attend.

Weddings Every Day, Everywhere “Every day, everywhere, someone is getting married. We want Blanc de Bleu to be the sparkling beverage of choice at all weddings,” says Fred Franzia, CEO of Bronco Wine Company, the worldwide producer and supplier of Blanc de Bleu. Blanc de Bleu is available in 750ml and 187ml bottles. Facebook.com/blancdebleu

Wedding planning can be an exciting, wondrous, and often stressful experience for a bride. Trying to combine the variety of traditions passed down and suggested from family and friends, with her own dreams of the perfect wedding day can be overwhelming. Hearing from the perspective of an expert who has had the privilege of being a part of dozens of wedding days can often provide brides with insight in a way they might never have thought of. A photographer’s perspective is one of which you can assure that they’ve seen a variety of traditions, décor, cakes, wedding songs and dances, attire and favors, hors d’oeurves, gowns and almost any other thing you can imagine. And you can almost guarantee in all of the years of experiences, a photographer has photographed potentially any and all types of wedding situations. It is with that in mind that these tips are generated in order to help brides gain the perspective from someone who’s likely to have seen it all, and photographed it all.

Wedding Tips FROM A

s ’ r e h p a r g o t Pho By: Carrie Jean

Eye

1. Decide what is truly important: There are such a variety of traditions, timelines and “faux pas” that at some point, the wedding industry decided that accommodation is one of the keys to planning a wedding. From first dances to cake cutting and bouquets to party favors…..at the end of the day….what’s really going to matter? The REAL purpose of this day is for you and your love to be married! Everything else just adds to the wonder and excitement that is the celebration of your love and your commitment to one another. These things must mean something to you though! Decide what are the top three to five things that are most important to you on your wedding day. Don’t feel bad if it’s not what someone else feels is more important. This is your and your fiancé’s day – and you get to decide what is the priority! These are the things that should get the majority of the wedding budget, time and effort, and if there’s room for the other stuff, great! But focus on the stuff you’re excited about first, and then see what else you feel like fitting in. 2. Hire Vendors That YOU Like: If you’ve ever been a part of any wedding, you know that the bride and groom spend the majority of their wedding with their vendors. You want to choose the companies that you most enjoy, trust, and who will help you make you day more fun and less stressful. This decision is as important as is choosing the friends/family that you want standing beside you on your wedding day. 3. Personalize Your Wedding: Weddings these days are becoming so unique that couples really are able to express their personal style. So in the planning process, really think about what is special and meaningful to you and your fiancé as a couple.

4/11/17 4:49 PM

4. Coordinator: A lot of venues have coordinators on-site. Make sure you know their role and what they are doing day of. Ensure that the coordinator has met your photographer, videographer, DJ, and caterer on the day of so that everyone is on the same page regarding the timeline and who is responsible for what. Assuring that everyone is aware of what everyone else is doing will really help your special day flow more easily and will help prevent them from coming up to you to ask you question on the day of. If you don’t have an on-site coordinator, consider hiring a day-of coordinator to take care of all the details and to help things go smoothly. The last thing you want to be doing on your wedding day is working. 5. Preplan & Delegate: One thing that many brides fail to do is to make things easier on themselves. They fail to plan ahead and procrastinate. They want to make everyone else happy, and they end up doing everything themselves instead of asking for help when they should. They overwhelm themselves because they take everything on their own, causing way more stress than necessary. They don’t want to trouble their friends and family by asking for help. When more than likely, these loved ones will be more than willing to help if asked. They want to help! So let them! Embrace the strengths of those closest to you and let them help you! 6. Don’t Forget to Eat & Drink: Stress causes people to forget to take care of themselves. Make sure that your bridesmaids are bringing you water and checking in on you to make sure you are at least snacking throughout the day. The last thing that you want is for you to be faint when the time comes for your nuptials. Don’t stress over missing something or someone. This event revolves around you, and your fiancé of course. They can’t start without you and people are there to see YOU! Emergency Kit: Making sure that you maid of honor 7. or planner/coordinator has a safety kit in the event that you need something. Some key items that this kit should contain are mini-sewing kit, hair spray, safety pins, bobby pins, energy bars, stain remover (Tide-to-go pens are awesome), band aids, deodorant, Advil, and makeup remover are just a few. 8. IMPORTANT THINGS: What brides seem to forget when they are planning their dream wedding is that – this is just one day! The marriage that you are committing yourself to is forever. It’s not about the process of “getting married,” but more so the fact that at the end of the day – you will “be married.” That’s what is so beautifully simplistic about the entire process. The wedding should be a reflection of individual style and an expression of how we feel about our partner, family and friends. It’s so important to remember to enjoy the day. Soak in the little moments, commit them to memory as much as possible because this day will go by very quickly. If you put in the time and proactively work to make the day truly “you,” then come the day of – the details will take care of themselves. Then it will be the most special and magical day of your life! 49 19803.1.6.048.049.WeddingTipsPhotographerEditorial.indd 2

You’re engaged! Fantastic. One of the first decisions you and your fiancé will make answers the questions all your friends and family will ask: where and when? Bed and Breakfast’s have enjoyed increasing popularity as venues for weddings in the past couple of years due to the unique advantages they offer. In this fast paced world more and more of us move away from our hometowns, or have family that spreads out across the country and even internationally. However, you want everyone close by during the days before and day of your wedding. A cozy Bed and Breakfast is a perfect option. The Bed and Breakfast becomes “command central” with all the activity taking place at one designated location. With breakfast provided, the stress is relieved from family members to provide meals or even stock a refrigerator. Holding your special day at a Bed and Breakfast reduces the frenzied stress of day-of preparations. Make sure the Bed and Breakfast that is hosting your wedding celebration has all the necessary contacts so that the amenities to help you look and feel your best are lined up for you. There is no need to actually leave the property; hair, make-up, massage, and nails can be brought to you at the Bed and Breakfast. It is obvious why 54 19803.1.6.054.055.B&BEditorialAB.indd 1

so many couples are choosing Bed and Breakfasts for their wedding venue. You simply cannot beat the service, intimacy and special feeling that you will experience by having all of your loved ones gather near you on this important day. Additionally, some Bed and Breakfasts have restaurants and event centers on the same property, such as Rabun Manor, allowing you to enjoy the entire week-end in one location. Rather than explaining to three different venues what you would like to see and experience, you just work with one group of highly trained and creative professionals. Upon arrival, you hang your wedding gown, bridesmaid’s dresses and tuxedos without fear of bad weather or neglectful storage in bags causing undue wrinkles. The staff at the Bed and Breakfasts assists where needed to make sure everything is perfect. Your flowers and cake are delivered to the venue, tables are decorated, catering is coordinated on-premises, and a live band or D.J. sets up the dance room. If the preparation for the event becomes overwhelming, retreating to your room is easy for you and your guests. All you and your bridal party need to do is get 56 19803.1.6.056.057.B&BEditorialCD.indd 1

dressed in our bridal suite and show up. Rabun Manor is loved by many photographers because it lends itself to a number of special places for bride and groom shots. The Northeast Georgia Mountains provide a backdrop that cannot be replicated. Come early and stay late-a couple of days beyond your special day to be pampered and take in the experience. Let us stress for you! We believe you need to focus on saying your best “yes to one another.
