Featured Caterer: ZiL Catering, LLC Eat Well. Worry Less. ZiLCatering.com Elizabeth – Owner/Operator Secondary to the venue, the food and drink at your event will probably consume the largest portion of your budget. Make sure you are prepared to make informed decisions. There are more things to consider when hiring a catering company besides the per person cost. Be aware the per person cost may not include tax, gratuity or delivery. There may even be a charge to set up prior to the event and clean up after. A great catering company may help you to plan your entire event, from the design, to finding the perfect venue. They can also help with coordination and lining up vendors. One of the most important things to remember however, even the best catering company can’t cook up a 5 course Beef Wellington dinner for 120 guests at $10 per person. When planning your menu, you want to be realistic with what you can serve given your budget and the size of your guest list. Other frequently asked questions include: Does a customer have to work from the current menu or can the company create a custom menu? Do you provide fresh produce and can you accommodate dietary restrictions? Find a caterer that can prepare menus that suits your needs. Can they provide a mix of traditional and contemporary meals? Menus that are memorable, fresh and diverse may use items that change with the seasons. One should look for a catering company that is professional & friendly to add a personalized touch to your special day. ZiL Catering, LLC. Eat Well. Worry Less. See our ad on page 20.

Amy & Freddy

Forsyth Park & Morris Center, Savannah, GA Two college sweethearts tie the knot in Savannah, the charming city in which the couple lives. Amy wanted a wedding that played off of Savannah’s vibe: Southern, romantic and fun. She choose a simple, neutral color palette of white, ivory and greenery, letting the city’s natural beauty remain the focus. The ceremony took place in front of the iconic Forsyth Fountain. The couple’s adorable pups played a role in the ceremony & made for cutie photos after! No Savannah wedding is complete without taking an infamous downtown trolley to your reception. Amy & Freddy partied at The Charles Morris Center, where the highlight of the evening was custom bourbon donuts flambé, made fresh on the spot! The couple was treated to an antique getaway at the end of the night!

Tips From a Professional

The Ring Featured Jeweler: Spencer’s Jewelers Athens’ Oldest Locally Owned Jeweler Bill and Ann Spencer – Owners

Points to consider when making the IMPORTANT purchase of a diamond engagement ring or diamond wedding ring v Diamonds are more than “letters and numbers”. Every diamond is different, there are NO two stones exactly alike and you need to compare diamonds in person to see these subtle differences. Your local jeweler can show you diamonds side by side comparing two or more stones. They can explain the differences in cut, color and clarity between diamonds and why one is a better value than the other. v When a diamond’s price seems too good to be true, as on the internet, it usually is! No one is going to give away a precious stone, especially something as precious as a diamond! You may find what appears to be a large selection of stones listed on an internet website, however these physical stones do not exist nor at the price you are quoted. In fact, the diamond you see on the internet, may not be the actual diamond you receive. v

When you buy solely for the “price”, that’s all you get. You will not get any follow-up service or personal attention after the sell via the internet. If you have any questions or problems after your internet purchase, you will be on your “own”.

v

Whereas, your local jeweler will be there for you- this is referred to as “service- after-the-sell” and it is absolutely FREE with your diamond and jewelry purchase from your local jeweler. They will provide inspections, cleaning and updated appraisal services for as long as you own the piece of jewelry. You will not get this added personal service from an internet website!

19803.2.3.031.ProTipsDiamond.indd 1

v Bottom line; Find a professional jeweler which you can trust that has a repetition of honesty and high ethical standards with time proven results. One that can’t hide in cyber-space behind a website and may be here today, but gone tomorrow. “Your local independent jeweler is your source for fine jewelry and diamonds for a lifetime.” See our ad on page 46.

Christi and Michael Sandals Resort - Montego Bay, Jamaica

A destination wedding was perfect since the couple’s friends and family are from different parts of the U.S. Given that everyone would have to fly, they wanted to pick a destination that most people have not visited. The overall mood of the event was casual so they tried to keep it fun! She chose a beach theme and soft colors that reflected the intimacy of a destination wedding, the excitement of being somewhere new and special and the fact that everyone’s on a giant extra awesome vacation. One of Christi’s favorite memories is the moment they had alone during their “First Look”. She found it helped get the jitters out before the actual ceremony. The day of the wedding was warm and glorious and beautiful and the grounds of the Sandals Resort in Montego Bay offered incredible scenery. The tip she would give a bride who wants a destination wedding is to go with the flow. 39 19803.2.3.038.039.DestinationJamaicaAB.indd 2

Tips From a Professional

Your Picture Perfect Destination Featured Photographer: Carrie Jean Photography creative, modern, styled. As soon as a couple determines their wedding destination, it is key that they begin working with a wedding planner who is familiar with the area. One of the first decisions you will need to make about your destination photography is whether to use a destination photographer or hire one to travel with you. Ask for referrals from your venue and you might uncover local talent. If you decide to bring specialists from home, ask if the photographer has a valid passport. Expect to cover their travel and lodging costs in addition to the photography fees. Negotiate these expenses up front. It is common for venues and resorts to charge an additional fee for an outside photographer or may not allow foreign photographers at all together. Ask about these fees during the planning process. Plan to arrive several days in advance to allow time to scout out locations that you might like for photos. Ask for recommendations from the locals! Many brides dream of sunset ceremonies with its romantic imagery and beautiful colors. If your ceremony is at sunset, by the time it’s over, it will be dark and remaining photos will be taken at night. Time your ceremony so that when it ends you’ll have an hour of decent sunlight left for all the portraits and shots with loved ones. If your heart is set on a ceremony at sunset time, you may consider an extra photo session the morning after. Sunrise is a great time to do photos as well and will still have the same romantic feel as sunset. Carrie Jean Photography See our ad on page 17.

Sontisha & Terrence Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Two vivacious and fun-loving Atlanta natives say their vows in this romantic get-a-way destination. ‘Tisha and Terrence wanted to combine their love of traveling and their adventurous spirits and cement their love story in a fun yet remote destination. She chose a color palette of Tiffany blue, orange and light grey which played off the crystal blue of the picturesque ocean and beach background. The ceremony took place Oceanside surrounded by palm trees and ocean breezes. The couple was joined for their ceremony by their immediate family and close friends. Following the ceremony the couple enjoyed time on the beach taking photos with the bridal party and guests. A small reception dinner at a restaurant on site following the ceremony. They held a full reception with extended family and friends the following weekend after they returned back to the states.

WEDDING INVITE

THESE ARE NOT HARD AND FAST RULES (EXCEPT FOR THE THANK YOU CARDS!) BUT THEY SERVE AS A STARTING POINT. DESTINATION WEDDINGS TIMELINE IS ON THE TOP, AND LOCAL WEDDINGS ARE ON THE BOTTOM:

SAVE THE DATES

INVITATIONS

RSVP DEADLINE

THANK YOUS

Save-the-dates give your guests a friendly heads-up. They are not always necessary, but are never a bad idea. Your guests may decide to turn your destination wedding into a getaway trip, so those save-the-dates can be sent up to a year in advance.

There is such a thing as too early! Send invitations so that your guests’ maximum anticipation lines up with your big day. Invitations for destination weddings should be sent far enough in advance for your guests to make their travel plans.

Your RSVP deadline will depend on how much lead time your wedding professionals need. The first one to consider is your caterer’s meal count. Check with each vendor to determine when they need a final number and set the RSVP return date for a week before that.

Believe it or not, you’ll start receiving gifts before you even walk down the aisle! Send their thank you cards immediately to minimize your workload after the wedding. Once you’re back from your honeymoon, kick into high gear to get them out no later than six weeks after the wedding.
