Celebrate

There’s something so refreshing and renewing about the warmer months. In Winter and Fall, we nest and want to be cozy. Color palettes become a bit more muted, which has their beauty. Spring and Summer are when the outside world comes alive, and nature celebrates. I know that this past year didn’t exactly go the way any of us had hoped, but the sun is on the horizon of returning to normal. Now more than ever, it is apparent what is truly important: love, family, and friendship. There is so much to cherish and celebrate. I hope

Dalton & Hannah

In Georgia, we know all about constantly changing weather….and wow did Dalton and Hannah’s experience it at their wedding!! The day started out sunny, but by the end of the evening there was drizzle, rain, sun again, a torrential downpour and thunder and lighting... Despite the roller-coaster weather, they had a truly beautiful day! Hannah was a STUNNING southern bride, and the colors she picked were just elegant! She and Dalton shared a first look, and Dalton couldn’t wipe the smile off his face for the rest of the day! Although their ceremony was moved indoors, it was simply beautiful with the string lights and crystal chandeliers overhead. Dalton shed a few tears of joy when he saw his beautiful bride cross the bridal suite and descend the stairs to her father, who escorted her down the aisle. To signify their coming together, Dalton and Hannah poured crystals into a vase which they will later have melted down and made into a piece to display in their home—a unique and symbolic way to remember the day they became one. The reception details were beautiful, and the cakes were so unique! Dalton LOVES golf, and so his groom cake and the cupcakes were so creative! Hannah and Dalton shared their first dance, then Hannah finished the dances with a special dance with her 94-year-old grandfather…what a special and sweet moment! Their night was wrapped up with a sparkler send off and their smiles said it all as they began their amazing new journey together! 11 19803.5.1.010.011.RealWeddingWarehouseAB.indd 2

TIPS FROM A PROFESSIONAL

Is a first look photo session right for you? Business Partner - Lisa Wilson, Lisa Michele Photography Choosing to have a first look photo session is popular with couples. As a photographer, there is beauty and inspiration to be found both in a first look session and the initial look being when the bride comes down the aisle. If the wedding party has limited time at the venue, a first look can be a great way to go. I personally always suggest a first look if the wedding party has less than six hours at the venue. Taking wedding party and family photos before the ceremony gives the couple the maximum amount of time with their guests at the reception.

First looks allow an intimate moment between the couple to help ease any nerves. The photographer captures the genuine reaction, making for beautiful heartfelt photos. Couples can choose to include the wedding party and close family members or can enjoy a private moment.

For outdoor sunset or candlelit ceremonies, a first look would allow for the best possible lighting. The best light of the day is the hour before sunset, known as the Golden Hour. Capturing crisp images after the golden hour is risky, so taking advantage of a first look and knocking out your family photos before the ceremony is the way to go. Apps are available to find the golden hour for dates in advance. I would highly recommend scheduling a ceremony before the golden hour to allow for memorable couple’s photos afterward.

To determine whether a first look is the best fit for a couple’s day, I assist in creating a general timeline. The photography plan includes arrival time, ceremony, dinner, first dances, reception events, and the grand exit. With this plan in place, the couple can then make an informed decision about what would best fit into their day.

SAVE THE DATES

INVITATIONS

RSVP DEADLINE

THANK YOUS

Save-the-dates give your guests a friendly heads-up. They are not always necessary, but are never a bad idea. Your guests may decide to turn your destination wedding into a getaway trip, so those save-the-dates can be sent up to a year in advance.

There is such a thing as too early! Send invitations so that your guests’ maximum anticipation lines up with your big day. Invitations for destination weddings should be sent far enough in advance for your guests to make their travel plans.

Your RSVP deadline will depend on how much lead time your wedding professionals need. The first one to consider is your caterer’s meal count. Check with each vendor to determine when they need a final number and set the RSVP return date for a week before that.

Believe it or not, you’ll start receiving gifts before you even walk down the aisle! Send their thank you cards immediately to minimize your workload after the wedding. Once you’re back from your honeymoon, kick into high gear to get them out no later than six weeks after the wedding.

Brad & Karlene

Brad & Karlene met through mutual friends as freshmen. After four years of friendship, followed by six months of dating, and then one magical weekend at a music & arts festival, they fell in love. Their relationship has been built on traveling, music, and a sense of exploration. Over their years together, they traveled to twenty-eight states, Canada, Puerto Rico, & Costa Rica, and on multiple occasions Karlene got down on one knee and boldly expressed her undying love to Brad and asked him to marry her. It was on the shores of Maui at sunset when Brad was finally the one to get down on one knee and ask Karlene the same question, which Karlene says was the happiest day of her life. They chose to have a somewhat “destination wedding” and get married in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Karlene’s family has a compound of cabins on top of a mountain that Karlene has been visiting her entire life, and this is where they got ready on the wedding day. They then shared an adorable first look in a valley surrounded by horses & mountains. The bridesmaids individually picked out their dresses. The bohemian decor at the venue matched Karlene & Brad’s free-spirited and whimsical personalities perfectly. They exchanged sweet vows in a forest and danced the night away under the stars. Their golden retriever pup, Buffy, even joined for the festivities and stole the show during their sparkler exit. 23 19803.5.1.022.023.RealWeddingSugarbooAB.indd 2

TIPS FROM A PROFESSIONAL

Business Partner: Marcia Smith, Simply I Do Wedding Officiants & Event Planners Hiring a Wedding Officiant Congratulations! You are engaged and now you are starting to look for vendors. Most people do not really know the differences between officiant, celebrant, clergy, pastor, priest, or rabbi. It can be confusing knowing what each of these have to offer when it comes to your ceremony. The first step to hiring a Wedding Officiant is determining the type of ceremony you would like to have. Do you want your ceremony to be a religious service performed by a friend, family member, pastor, priest, clergy, or rabbi? Do you want your ceremony led by an officiant who is ordained and allowed to perform ceremonies by State law or by a family member or friend who gets ordained on-line just to do your ceremony? Any of the above options will work. Its basically just your preference and the level of experience you want to hire. Listed below are the general types of Officiants: Religious Official – those who serve as leaders within their area of faith and usually perform ceremonies in their church or place of worship Ordained Minister – person authorized to function in a ministerial capacity and ordained to perform wedding ceremonies Celebrant – generally experienced in spiritual, secular, or interfaith ceremonies Justice of the Peace – those in government roles who have the ability legally to perform ceremonies with their state laws Civil Wedding Officiant – those in government roles who have the ability legally to perform ceremonies with their state laws Professional Wedding Officiant– person authorized to function in a ministerial capacity and ordained to perform wedding ceremonies Ordained Family Member or Friend – generally apply on-line to become ordained specifically for your ceremony If you choose to hire a professional, you are going to be getting a wealth of knowledge and experience. Hiring a family member or friend is meaningful, however they could become ill or are too anxious to perform the ceremony. Professionals are generally prepared for anything. What if the ceremony is outside and windy and things blow over, candles blow out, or someone in the bridal party locks their knees and passes out? Professionals are always prepared to step in and assist.

Always ask questions of your professional regarding the ceremony. Below are a few things you will want to know: Are they available for your date and time? Are they available for your rehearsal, and how long do they allot for rehearsal? How long have they been in business? Does the officiant require Pre-Marital Counseling? How do they structure the ceremony? Will they provide you samples of ceremonies? What is the fee for officiating? How do they accept payment? Refundable or Non-Refundable? Is there a booking fee to hold your date? Refundable or Non-Refundable? Can you add a Unity, Poems, Readings and/or Scriptures that are meaningful to you? Will you be allowed to review a final draft of the ceremony script before the ceremony? Is there a back-up plan in the event the officiant is unable to perform the ceremony? It is profoundly important to feel comfortable or have some level of connection with your officiant. It is important to talk with them up front by phone, zoom, facetime, google duo or an in-person meeting. E- mail is great after you have hired the officiant, but you cannot truly connect through e-mail. You will know if you have that connection with the officiant and feel like they are the one. Every officiant charges different fees. It is usually based on ceremony size and location. If the officiant is required to travel, the cost will be on the higher scale. The range is generally between $250.00 to $500.00. Do not be afraid to ask what that fee includes and what the officiant will provide to you for that fee. When selecting your officiant, it is okay to be choosy. The officiant’s ceremony sets the tone for your wedding. It is the officiant’s responsibility to stand with the Bride and Groom and make their day special! Hiring a professional for your ceremony is not something you will regret. If you are not sure where to start looking for an officiant, try the Resource Registry in this magazine (we are in there!), Thumbtack, Facebook, Instagram and even referrals from your other vendors. No matter who you choose, we hope your day is magical!

Best place to get married in Athens! I can't say enough good things about Live Wire Athens. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. Live Wire was the first venue we visited after getting engaged, and after leaving that day, we didn't bother looking at any otherswe were in love! -Mackenzie

Jack & Lacy

After having to postpone their original wedding, these two were just so excited to finally say “I do” and celebrate with family and friends. And celebrate they did!! Their day was perfect from start to finish. Inside the cutest bridal cottage used to get dressed in, Lacy and her bridesmaids spent time together laughing and relaxing. They were all so sweet and looked adorable in their matching floral jumpsuits. The groom and groomsmen also had their own “guy” space to hang out in before the ceremony, which was great. Jack gave personalized leather koozies as gifts to each of his groomsmen. One of the best parts of the day was during the ceremony when Jack and Lacy exchanged vows that they had written to each other. It was really sweet! Lacy looked absolutely stunning in her fitted, Stella York dress and it was just perfection paired with her cathedral veil. Jack, the groomsmen and the bridesmaids wore deep navy which was just beautiful with the touches of pink in the florals. After the ceremony guests enjoyed cocktail hour in one of the courtyards and then moved inside for dinner and toasts. During the reception, Jack danced with his mom. They had choreographed their dance and it was so fun and definitely got the party started; the party that didn’t stop the entire night until Lacy and Jack left with a sparkler send off!! 35 19803.5.1.034.035.RealWeddingEmpireMillsAB.indd 2

India & Josh Josh and I met in college, at Lee University, and our friendship quickly grew into a love for one another. One of our very favorite professors officiated our wedding! We had so many favorite moments from our wedding day. My flower girl dropped dried petals from the flowers that Josh gave me over our years of dating—a perfect way to symbolize the goodness of God in our relationship over time and a promise of His goodness in years to come. The most sacred moment of our ceremony was our sand pouring ceremony. After this symbolism of our union, our immediate families came up and prayed over us and our marriage as “Goodness of God” played in the background. We could not have chosen a more perfect location to begin our forever journey and celebrate these special moments together— In the Woods was such a dream! 39 19803.5.1.038.039.RealWeddingInTheWoodsAB.indd 2

The HONEYMOON

is about

19803.5.1.042.043.GreatEscapesAdvertorialAB.indd 1

3/28/21 3:27 AM

Let’s be honest, the wedding is about celebrating with your loved ones, but the HONEYMOON, that is all about YOU! Post pandemic travel has limitations and new guidelines that are making even the savviest travelers nervous and overwhelmed. No worries, a knowledgeable travel advisor can help you navigate this new space and make sure your Honeymoon is perfect, allowing you to focus on what is most important, each other. Quick tips from the travel advisors at Global Escapes: Consider talking about your honeymoon before you set the wedding date. Some destinations are seasonal, it is something to consider if your Honeymoon destination is important. Plan ahead, preferably 8-12 months. Be prepared for a lot of opinions. Well-meaning friends and family want to share all their advice about the wedding and the honeymoon. Keep in mind what was perfect for them, might not be perfect for you. Again, they mean well, take the advice and say “thank you” but remember your experience is all about you. Sit down with your fiancé and have an honest conversation about each of your top 3-5 wishes, budget and how active or relaxed you want this experience to be. If you are traveling immediately following the wedding, then you will want some R & R even if you are typically a very active vacationer. A honeymoon is a perfect excuse for a trip of a lifetime. When you get started in a new life with your partner, things get busy with careers, kids, family, and friends. Do something extravagant if you can. You will never regret it! Even if you are traveling before the world opens completely, there are amazing, bucket list worthy options in the US and Caribbean. Take as much time as you can to be away. You will never get this chance again to relax, recharge and begin your new life together. You have enough on your plate with wedding details and bridal party gifts, so don’t gamble with such an important vacation online. Schedule time to meet with a professional travel advisor that has your best interest in mind. They will save you time, money, and mental stress. Global Escapes provides customized, stress-free travel planning for an experience you will love. To schedule a complimentary consultation with a honeymoon specialist, call 706-549-1164 or email, info@globalescapes.com. Tiffany Hines, President & CEO
