Celebrate Your Love

While I love all of our editions, this one is particularly dear to me. It features the wedding of two of my best friends who had their gorgeous wedding in South Africa. While being an attendant in and celebrating with the small but amazing group of us who ventured there it really struck me the importance of people at your wedding. Planning a wedding whether it is local or a destination always has the challenge of who to invite and who will attend. Manners will always dictate that some people will have to be invited, but some I want to encourage you to think about who sparks joy in your life and make sure that they make the cut. (I have been binge watching Marie Kondo on Netflix, if you are combining your houses or not we could all use some tidying up) There are a lot of events surrounding a wedding: showers, and parties. These are the perfect opportunity to start introducing guests to each other and encourage merriment. Before events are particularly important if you have groups of people who do not know each other and will add to everyone’s enjoyment of the wedding. Because we all traveled so far, we had ample time for bonding and really made the wedding feel like a family affair, this can be easily emulated in your event by planning dinners and events closer to the time for anyone traveling to your wedding. After all, your wedding is a celebration of your love and the people who love you celebrating together.

Emily & Matt

The couple first met each other playing video games. Not the most common way for a couple to meet and get to know each other, and then eventually fall in love. But playing xbox seemed to be the shot of Cupid’s Arrow that struck them both. Their destination wedding was in the Dominican Republic at an all inclusive resort. They were married in the Dominican afternoon sun and had a sunset reception complete with dinner and cocktails, surrounded by family and close friends. 11 19803.3.1.010.011.EmilyMattWeddingAB.indd 2

Tips From a Professional

Is Pinterest Helping or Hurting Your Wedding Design? Featured Business Partner: It Takes Two Events You have too much on your plate to waste time on Pinterest! Make the most of your time and money with the help of a design-focused Wedding Planner. Have you ever browsed Pinterest for what seems like an eternity, only to come away more confused and disorganized than before? This is what we call the Black Hole. You go in searching for greenery and white peonies, but you come out rethinking your entire wedding design! Don’t get me wrong - I love the inspiration that can come from the internet, but sifting through it is intimidating, to say the least. Hiring talented vendors is key to making your vision come to life, and hiring one person to help you find those vendors and communicate your vision should be one of the first steps you take. Along with keeping you organized and on-track, a Wedding Planner will dive into the details of your design to create a cohesive, personalized aesthetic. You’re still guiding the vision, but you’ll find you won’t be wasting your time searching for images and the vendors who can recreate them! You may need to hire multiple design vendors to achieve the look you envision, and your Planner will know where to find them, whether they’re in your budget, and if their style is in line with yours. We especially appreciate details like:

Elements from your reception design being included in wedding stationery, like bringing the greenery from your estate table to your invitation liner

Thoughtful signage and favors that incorporate your passions, like custom sketches of your puppies on glass tumblers

Specialty linens that add texture, depth, and personality

Lighting that delivers the perfect mood and sets the tone

Lastly, your Wedding Planner will be the one who is tying together all of the little details, like perfectly aligning chairs, adjusting napkin folds, and hiding stray stems, giving you the publication-ready wedding you envisioned! Incorporate Pantone’s Color of the Year in Your Wedding Featured Business Partner: Kim Moss, 255 Milledge Wedding & Event Venue In case you haven’t heard by now, Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year is “living coral”— Selected for its animating and life-affirming hue, the golden undertone is said to be energizing and enlivening with a softer edge” For 20 years, the Pantone Color Institute has chosen the “Color of the Year” – meant to be a symbol of the new year to come. The Pantone Color Institute describes this year’s shade as embracing people with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort in our continually shifting environment. Representing optimism, joy, and playfulness, coral would make an admirable accent color for weddings – especially those in the spring or summer months. All that is to say, the hue is ideal if you’re still planning out the color palette of your wedding celebration, Living Coral is NOT just for the sandy beach wedding and no it’s not as hard to use as you may think. There are many ways to incorporate Living Coral to lighten and brighten your day without it stealing the whole show. If you are looking for a warmer palette, some golds and mustard yellows would tone down the coral. For a brighter color palette, try turquoise and aqua, to help enhance the coral Pair will dark blue with it for a classic color palette. This truly is a versatile color that can be mixed many different ways to make your dream palette. I was fortunate enough to have a bride who chose this color palette long before Pantone made it Color of the Year. It’s on trend, yes, but it’s also naturally timeless, bright and joyful. (Seriously—how could you not smile seeing this shade?) From fruits to florals, check out some of the ways our bride used living coral into their wedding celebration. A wedding is a personal expression of your love. Using colors and textures can help make your unique wedding day come to life.

Cailey & Daniel

Cailey & Daniel met on the very first day of their sophomore year of high school. They were seated next to each other in history class, and the rest is history! Their wedding at 9 Oaks Farm was a fairy-tale. It was a very personalized wedding with numerous details such as custom m&ms, hershey’s kisses, koozies, cups, cookies, etc. When it was time for the ceremony, Cailey surprised Daniel by arriving in a horse & carriage. Later at the reception, they were both surprised by the arrival of King of Pops (their favorite!). It was a bright and sunny day ALL day... except for about 10 minutes that fell during the ceremony! Everyone had such awesome attitudes and laughed it off. Right after Cailey & Daniel shared their first kiss as husband and wife and proceeded back down the aisle, the rain stopped. It will make for a great story when they reminisce over their wedding day. To end this fairy-tale wedding, the couple left under a sky of fireworks, a more perfect exit for these two Disney lovers. 23 19803.3.1.022.023.CaileyDanielWeddingAB.indd 2

Laura & Kyle

Sometimes you meet the love of your life while working. That’s what happened for Laura and Kyle. The couple met in 2008, when stuntman Kyle helped fit actress, singer & musician Laura for a harness while working on a commercial with Taylor Swift. They did not see each other again until 2015, when Kyle’s friend re-introduced them. Two years later in 2017, Kyle proposed at sunrise at the Grand Canyon. Born in Athens, Laura chose Historic Smithonia Farm to host their boot friendly, country casual, wedding. The ceremony took place outdoors and her pup Henri served as “best dog.” After the wedding the guests were served local barbecue and enjoyed music and dancing. 33 19803.3.1.032.033.LauraKyleWeddingAB.indd 2

Honeymoon in India Looking for a romantic honeymoon destination that combines adventure with relaxation? India enchants with exotic appeal that permeates the country, from the snowy peaks of the Himalayas to the tropical forested peninsula. Like your new marriage, India is synonymous with grace, beauty, and intrigue. Be transported into this land of contrasts, where bustling city streets meet languid-river villages. Explore sacred temples and ancient palaces. Get lost in a dizzying cacophony of sights, scents, and sounds. India’s vivid colors, vibrant spices, and exquisite architecture create an inimitable mélange that beguiles all who visit. Still, there’s an intangible quality that mysteriously touches the soul. While India’s intrigue may forever evade description, it’s inextricably tied to the people you’ll meet. India offers a different aspect of her personality—exotic, extravagant, elegant, eclectic—to each traveler. However, the overall theme throughout the entire country is simply “love.” What better place for a honeymoon, since love is what your brand-new marriage is all about? Ready for your honeymoon in India? Set up a consultation with a Global Escapes honeymoon specialist today by calling 706-549-1164 or emailing info@globalescapes.com. The

The modern wedding has a lot to thank the Victorian Age for. After all, it was Queen Victoria that made wearing a white dress all the rage in bridal fashion. Before her marriage to Prince Albert, Western wedding dresses came in a variety of colors. Another trend that was popular during the Victorian Age? The Language of Flowers of Floriography. (Perhaps bonus points for trivia nights) There is a lot of symbols on your wedding day, the veil, the rings, the attendants, the vows. Why not choose some flowers that will speak for you on what you want to convey about your love on your wedding day? Here are a few popular flowers for bouquets and the meaning behind them according to the Victorian Language of Flowers. Anemone: Anticipation and excitement for something in the future Baby Breath: The ultimate bouquet filler: Everlasting love. Calla Lily: Overwhelming beauty. Yes please! Carnation: Love. In the Victorian era, admirers would send replies to love decorations by colored carnations. Yellow was no, so that might be something to keep in mind, or not we aren’t in the Victorian age. Dahilia: Lasting love and commitment Boland Weddings

Daisy: True love – because each daisy flower is really two flowers blended together in harmony. That’s a big message for a relatively unassuming flower.

Boland Weddings

Gardenia: You’re lovely. Thanks, flower! You’re not so bad yourself Hydrangea: Heartfelt emotion Orchid: Love and Beauty Peony: Honor, Wealth and Romantic Love. Yes to all of this please! Ranunculus: Radiant charm Rose: Love, Beauty, Devotion, Timelessness. With over 100 species this flower has about as many things to say. Sweet Pea: Blissful pleasure. Tulip: Perfect, enduring love. Bonus: The meaning behind the main flower of our South African Destination Wedding: Protea- Courage and Compassion Different colors of flowers can also have different meanings. Tips From a Professional

Pretty and Practical: Picking the Perfect Wedding Venue Featured Business Partner: Hays - McDonald Farm By: Amy Locke When a bride starts the search for the perfect venue she has a dream of beautiful lighting, elegant table settings, and gorgeous flowers. Every little detail is perfect. Touring wedding venues seeing the pretty is easy but remember to take a step back and see the practical. Think of entering your wedding as a guest and as a vendor. Practical guest accommodations at your wedding will make your day more enjoyable for everyone. Happy guest stay longer, dance more and leave happy. Think about how your guest enter your reception: where will they park, is there handicap parking or drop off area? If your ceremony is outdoors does your venue have a rain plan? Are the restrooms convenient and accessible? Is there a place to feed/change a baby? Does Uber or Lyft service the area? The answers to these questions will help make sure your guest enjoy your special day. Next think about your vendors/services. What does the venue supply? Does the venue provide the services or can you choose your own? How much time are you allowed to setup/cleanup? Is there a kitchen? Access to water for caterers and bartender? Refrigeration for cake and flowers? Electricity for your DJ or band? Where do vendors setup and park? Do you need security? What are the insurance requirements? Enough room for a Photobooth? A place for food trucks? Making sure your vendors have everything the vendors need to do a great job for your wedding day will take away the stress. It is easy to get excited by the pretty of a wedding venue just remember the practical helps make your day run smoothly. The pretty and the practical will make your wedding day perfect. Annabelle & Scot

When Annabelle & Scot met on her first day of work, it was not love at first sight. When Scot left for another job, he realized how much he missed seeing her every day and looked for an opportunity to bring Annabelle on board at his new company. When they started working together again, it became apparent to them (it already was to all of their friends) that they were meant to be together. When Annabelle needed a place to move her cats in pinch, Scot volunteered his apartment and the rest is, as they say, history. Annabelle and Scot share a love of travel, food, and wine. Scot proposed to Annabelle at the Warwick Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Seeing as they both had family and friends spread throughout the globe, they decided South Africa would be the place that they also wanted to get married. Their mini United Nations of guests descended upon Cape Town and the surrounding area for a celebration of the love between these two. Everyone was encouraged to see the city, but dinners were largely together for additional bonding. The wine themed wedding took place in Stellenbosch. After the ceremony, guests were encouraged to drink up, and play lawn games before having a South African Braai dinner with Portuguese Fish Station. After dinner was dancing and general merriment before a midnight taco truck to end the evening. The wedding was truly a celebration of the love between these two and the people who love them both. 49 19803.3.1.048.049.AnnabelleScottWeddingAB.indd 2
