Säde Mission
Säde’s mission is to lead our consumers in making ethical choices as we create a more mindful, and sustainable world together. In an effort to minimize our environmental impact and achieving fair, safe and healthy working conditions throughout our supply chain, we seek to partner with suppliers who share a common vision on sustainability, accountability and transparency. Creating clothing that creates a peace of mind, isn’t all we want to strive for. We value doing the right thing and want to feel good about everything we make. This entails working ethically, for the better future we want to create for our industry. We strive to minimize our environmental footprint by being mindful in every step - from the fabrics we source, to how we design and deliver them to our consumers.
Company Mood
“Säde” Pronounciation : sah-de meaning “ray of light”
Three Companies
Found in 1991 by Safia Minney, People Tree has pioneered in sustainable Fair Trade fashion. Every product is made to the highest ethical and environmental standards from start to finish. Their contemporary, versitile designs include playful prints inspired by the V&A archives with collections featuring organic cotton, tencel and responsible wool made using traditional artisan skills such as hand weaving, hand knitting, hand embroidery and hand block printing.
People Tree actively supports farmers, producers and artisans through 14 producer groups in 6 countries. Part of the WFTO community, they’re also Fair Trade representatives. Through partnering producers and traders, they aim at sustainable development for excluded and economically disadvantaged people in developing countries.
People Tree Code of Conduct Environmental Responsibilty People Tree uses traditional skills, and combines them with new innovative technologies to support and create employment in rural areas where work is scarce and carbon neutral production is gaurenteed. All clothing is dyed using low impact dyes that are free of harmful azo chemicals. Instead they use natural materials, avoiding plastic and toxic substances.
Through close partnerships they work to the highest Fair Trade standards on projects to support their producers. This includes hand skills training, the development of natural and low-impact dyes and organic cotton farming. They independently check that their standards have been met by the farmers, workers and companies that are part of products’ supply chains. And in order to reassure consumers that this has happened, they license the use of the FAIRTRADE Mark on products and packaging to signal this.
Kotn works directly with farmers to pay a guaranteed price for their cotton and is helping their suppliers make the switch to organic within the next five years. Affordable basics, like classic white tees or nostalgic 90s sweatshirts, comfortable enough for everyday wear, crafted with quality in mind so you don’t have to replace them as often. Kotn can trace its clothing back not just to the cut-and-sew factory, but all the way through the supply chain that includes dye houses, fabric mills, yarn spinners and farmers
KOTN Code of Conduct Quality essentials, ethically made from authentic Egyptian cotton. By working directly with cotton farming families in Egypt, Kotn wants to rebuild the industry from the inside. A responsibly-run operation employs locals, securing their craft and their livelihood. By scrapping the middleman, they’re ensured a fair wage for them, and an honest price for you. To stop the cycle of child labour, they’ve also partnered with proliteracy organizations on the ground in the Nile Delta. B Corp Certified, a movement built on the simple fact that business impacts and serves more than just shareholders -- it has an equal responsibility to the community and to the planet.
