Winter is here and with it comes a whole new field trip experience at the Clay Center! See brand-new exhibits “My Town” and “Ashton’s Climbing Sculpture” right now and enjoy hands-on play like never before. Beginning in February, explore the science of the body with a new traveling exhibit, “Grossology.” As always there is new programming to supplement both your lesson plans and the exhibits you will see here. Can’t come to us? We’ll come to you! The mobile exhibit Power Your Future will be back on the road in February so book your trip early.

In HomeGrown, an exhibition of art from the Clay Center’s collection, the influence of family and friends, experiences and memories can be seen in visual tributes to home in West Virginia. The Art of Weather | opening February 4 This exhibition featuring drawings, prints and paintings from the Clay Center art collection will focus on the science of weather and how artists interpret weather conditions. Aligns with select Elementary and Middle School 21st Century Visual Art Standards

Creative Space | closing April 9 See exemplary artworks from 20th century masters like Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and others in this historically-rich exhibition. Aligns with select Elementary and Middle School 21st Century Visual Art Standards

Patte Loper: Visit to a Small Planet I opening May 6 CLAY CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND SCIENCES

Bring hands-on fun and learning directly to your school with Power Your Future!

The landscape of West Virginia and the economics of energy production led New York artist Patte Loper to create the exhibition, Visit to a Small Planet. This science fiction-like environment of paintings, drawings and an immersive installation invites us to think about social, environmental and technological issues of economic growth, public health and the land. Aligns with select Elementary and Middle School 21st Century Visual Arts Standards

Students can learn about STEM careers using a variety of games and activities. Each student’s performance is tracked and recorded to provide you valuable feedback to understand individual interests, successes and problem areas. Grades: 5 – 12 30 minute sessions with groups of 20 students max

Limited Engagement Science Exhibits Explore-atory | closing January 25 Ride the waves of light, sound and air in this space where learning meets fun! Build an instrument and make beautiful noise at the Wall of Sound, bend laser light with a flick of your wrist or shoot an air donut across the room. Aligns with Next Generation Science Standards

Grossology | opening February 11 This “edutainment” attraction brings fun and learning together as kids step inside the world of the human body. Get up-close looks at several parts of the body including the nose, digestive system, kidneys, and GI Tract. Aligns with Next Generation Science Standards

STEAM Workshop | “Animal Structures” | Grades K–2 In this great engineering-focused workshop, your class will work together to see just what we can learn from our “buggy” friends! Aligns with Next Generation Science Standards relating to Organisms and Engineering
