About

Chiclayo

The city of Friendship

Peru's fourth largest city, Chiclayo is the capital of the Lambayeque region. A sunny and warm climate with fresh ocean breezes embraces a geography including impressive mountains and expansive beautiful beaches with spectacular waves. It is a land of legendary ancient civilizations and a wealthy colonial society reected in its majestic and traditional constructions. The city of Chiclayo is well known for its delicious seafood specialties, colonial architectures and archaeological sites, although it is the surrounding area's impressive archeological sites and ruins which undoubtedly calls the attention.

Location Chiclayo located on the northern coastal plain of Peru. It is 95 feet above sea level. This city is 12 hours away from the capital city of Peru, Lima (or 763.35 km away).

Life

Style

Chiclayo is one of the liveliest Cities in northern Peru with a population of around 970,000. Perhaps the better Lima being big enough to have supermarkets and still small enough to be manageable without hours spend in city busses. The plazas like Parque Principal or Plazuela Elias Aguirre buzz with life even after sunset. Chiclayo is full of Tico taxis. Short journeys cost PES/3. A station would be better if less easy to ďŹ nd to go to Sipan, FerreĂąafe, Lambayeque or the beaches PES/15, or Tucume PES/20. Moto taxis cost half the price, are better ventilated, but give less protection.

About

AIESEC Chiclayo

& the SDGs

The SDGs, or Global Goals, are a universal set of goals, targets and indicators that UN member states will be expected to use to frame their agendas and political policies over the next 15 years. These goals aim to achieve three extraordinary things in the next 15 years: end extreme poverty, fight inequality and justice, and fix climate change. With our social projects as our main hub for incoming internships, AIESEC in Chiclayo aims to align what we do around what our city really needs and what it needs is to know The Global Goals, but more importantly, understand how they can contribute for the development of a better country in order to fulfill our vision as Organization. Through our incoming exchange, our mission is to develop relevant projects and activities in order to make an impact that contribute directly to The Global Goals.

About

Accommodation

AIESEC Chiclayo provides free accommodation for all EPs for the duration of the projects. You might stay in a host family, single host, hostel or in the NGO (if they have guest rooms). And it´s possible that we only know which one right before your arrival. You have the chance to arrive maximum 3 days before the starting date of your project, otherwise you will be responsible of your accommodation. AIESEC Chiclayo can't ensure that you will live close to work or key places to visit. We can't ensure that you will live in a favoured area of the city either. But we do can provide you orientation for getting to your project. We cannot put your life in risk, so your host family will be selected by us with different filters so we can ensure your experience.

If you stay more time after the end of your project you will be responsible of your accommodation too, but, usually host families do agree to host the EPs for a little longer (but we can't guarantee that). We can't ensure that you will have amenities such as a private room, Wi-Fi,Hot wĂĄter, air conditioning or any other in your host. Our university has free Wi-Fi and you are welcome to use it if you need it. The EP must follow the rules of his/her host place, such as : maintaining the order, asking for permission before bringing someone else, participating in household, and any other rules explicit by the host. Host are not responsible for your feeding. The two of you may come to terms about cooking and/or sharing spendings on food. AIESEC Chiclayo may change the EP to another host if she or he is in any kind of discrimination or another kind of justiďŹ ed situation.

AIESEC Chiclayo will offer assistance to solve any problem in your living place. Living in a host is part of your experience, you are responsible for making the best out of it. If you are in a family host we recommend you to spend some time with them and engage to their daily lives. Give them the chance to know you and give yourself the chance to get to know them. In that way you might get yourself a loving and welcoming family far from home. We are very strict with the assistance to the Project. Daily, with the support of the NGO, we pass the list of who volunteers are coming. We don’t give permissions to be absent of the project because of TRAVELS. So, if you are thinking of traveling for more than 2 days (like CUSCO) you have to come 1 week before or return 1 week later. There is no problem if you want to travel the days you don’t work. We provide you Events in order to make your experience better (IPS and LEAD) the dates of the events will be given before you arrive here (depending on the arrival dates). This events are OBLIGATORY and there will be punishment if you are absent. AIESEC have no responsibility if you have been stolen in the street. However, we will support you if you need anything.

We ensure you 3 meals per day.
