Greetings from The Mayor Welcome to the Spring & Summer Clearview Activity Guide! This guide is your key source for recreational programming and community events. With the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, it’s going to be a very exciting events season throughout our community as many of the signature events will be incorporating the Canada 150 theme along with a few special surprises into their regular programming. I also encourage everyone to get outdoors and take advantage of the beautiful Clearview Township landscape. We are home to great cycling routes, hiking trails and outdoor attractions such as the Clearview EcoPark. STAR LEVELS-The Star Swimmer Program introduces the swimmer to a wide variety of swimming and water activity skills with water safety education and awareness a component of all instructional levels.

LEARN TO SWIM -The Learn to Swim program is a fourlevel instructional program that teaches the non-swimmer a variety of skills in shallow and deep water, including the fundamentals of the front crawl stroke.

BUBBLERS-Bubblers is a value-

based water activity program for children 5 and under. Children in the infant to 3 year categories must be accompanied by an adult. Children 3 to 5 years of age may participate alone or with an adult.

Clearview is pleased to offer swim lessons similar to those at your local YMCA in Collingwood or Wasaga Beach. This allows continuity in programming throughout the year. We offer Bubblers, Learn to Swim and Star Swimmer programs. Advanced aquatics programs may be offered if numbers permit, such as Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. Devil’s Glen Park Hike one of the highest peaks along the Escarpment to the lookout platform and admire steep bedrock gorge and sweeping view of the entire valley! Lime Kiln Side Trail Look for the Franks Kiln Side Trail to see the kiln once used by early settlers to burn dolostone rock to create lime, and the Freedom Rock, with inscriptions on it made by people of days gone by.

Youth programs Clearview Youth Centre The Clearview Youth Centre was created in partnership with local partners and community groups to act as a safe and welcoming community space for youth within the Township. Youth ages 12 to 18 years can participate in weekly programs, fun events or just drop in to meet with friends! In additions to the drop-ins, the group also holds events for the youth, which include tea parties, picnics, cooking classes, movie nights and more! CYBERGNOMES ROBOTICS Hands on competitive robotics programs for youth ages nine to 18. The Cybergnomes currently run three different teams. FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Two FLL teams are run out of Creemore, meeting weekly to design and build a LEGO Mindstorms robot to compete in the annual FIRST LEGO League robotics competitions. CyberGirls An all-girl robotics teams for 11 to 18 year olds. Girls on this team design, build and program functional robots to take part in the annual VEX Robotics Competition. Cybergnomes Team 2013 This program is for students 13 to18 and challenges team members to design, prototype, fabricate, program and compete with a 120 pound robot. Cycling Clearview-Collingwood Train Trail Difficulty: Easy Length: 14 km (each way) Station Museum, Collingwood to Station Park, Stayner Spanning from Collingwood to Stayner, the Clearview Train Trail is a crushed gravel, linear trail connecting to the Collingwood Train Trail. It follows an abandoned rail line which used to be part of the Ontario Simcoe and Huron Railway system connecting Collingwood to Toronto and was built between 1851 and 1855. Prior to its abandonment in 1960, passengers enjoyed views of the tranquil landscape along the way. Now used as a multi-use trail, hikers and bikers can enjoy this flat railbed, stopping in either Stayner or Collingwood for lunch or a break. Creemore loop Difficulty: Moderate/Advanced Length: 60 km (loop) Start: Fisher Fields Park, Collingwood Heading counter clockwise out of the Town of Collingwood, the first portion which passes the Collingwood International Airport is relatively flat and perfect for your warm up. After crossing County Road 91 you enter more challenging rolling terrain. But the challenge is worth it, as you have multiple opportunities to view the beautiful Mad River along the way. If you are looking for an opportunity to stop and soak up the culture, be sure to take a break in Creemore, approximately half way through your ride. This town, known for it’s mouth watering restaurants and coffee shops, has art galleries, shopping and more! On your way back in to Collingwood, be sure your legs are ready for the Fairgrounds Road climb, which is a difficult but short climb to a fantastic view of Georgian bay. Become a Tourism Ambassador The Clearview Tourism Office, located at 220 Huron St. strives to be open during the tourist season (May to Sept). Clearview Township relies on dedicated volunteers to provide tourism and local information to visitors. Training provided! Clearview Community Policing Committee We are a group of volunteers consisting of local citizens, Clearview Councillors and staff and representatives of the Huronia West OPP. Our main concerns include traffic management, community safety and drug/alcohol awareness. We meet once a month and welcome student volunteers as a way of obtaining their community hours for their OSSD.
