Editor’s Letter

Communication It has become quiet clear to me that a lot of people don’t know how to communicate with other people. Or they don’t know how to communicate there message across. On a daily bases I speak with thousands of people and through this magazine millions of you around the world. I deal with people who have not mastered the concept of daily communication. But they want to be featured or famous. Just because you write a blog, PR person, run something on the internet, or own your on company does not make you an expert. What I have learned in my years is in order be an effective communicator you have to be able to listen and process the information before speaking. When you look at people like Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters these are people who have mastered the art of communication. They know how to listen to what the person is really saying. For years I spent my time running my mouth and not listening to what the person is really saying. Until my senior year in high school we took a trip to the nursing home and this older black woman said “Listen, don’t be afraid to shut that mouth sometime”. In this issue we sat down with Bestselling Author J Omarr, and talked about his life and new book. Our life coach Nathan 7 Scott is back with his wonderful advice. Please let us know what you think about the issue sglweeklymag@gmail.com. Cordially, Cleavester www.twitter.com/cleavester 4

Ask Nathan

Dear Nathan, I learned the other day that I was adopted at birth. Both of my parents have passed away; my sister accidentally told me. She thought I knew! I am angry and confused, and I feel betrayed. I understand my parents' motives, but that does not change how I feel. I am going to find my real parents, but this lie is consuming me. Cordially, Consuming

Dear Adopted One Being adopted isn't the end of the world. If you were loved by your now deceased parents, you should embrace that someone at some point in your life saw you and wanted to love and care for you. Remember whatever you decide to do at this point is a choice. You can choose to feel betrayed or you can choose to accept where you are and move forward with your life. Consider that you weren't told a lie, you just weren't told. Your parents are gone now. You have an opportunity to seek your real parents should that be your goal. Just be prepared for whatever you may find when and if you discover your biological parents. Things could go either way; they may or may not want to be found. However, should you choose this journey, go in peace and understanding. Being J Omarr A Cleavester Brooks Interview

Cleavester: Hello J Omarr, How are you doing? Jamelle Omarr Tutler: I'm good, nothing to complain about. Cleavester: Who is the real Jamelle Omarr Tutler? Jamelle: The real Jamelle Omarr Tutler, lol, is a young man who grew up in a loving family. I was encouraged to follow my aspirations. Cleavester: Where are you from? Jamelle: Originally I am from Newark, New Jersey. Cleavester: What was life like growing up? Jamelle: I think I grew up in the last era of people that really believed it took a village to raise a child. I grew up in the Prince Street projects and I can honestly say it was the best experience a child can have. Cleavester: What did you want to be growing up? Jamelle: Growing up I wanted to be an English teacher. I love Literature. Cleavester: What is JUSTUS about? Jamelle: Justus is about finding love through adversity. I don't want it to sound like a typical love story, but it does have that theme running through it of love and loss. Its also action packed about a young man who comes to develop his skills as a hit man for one of the biggest gay drug cartels on the east coast and I wont give away the rest you just have to read the book LOL

Cleavester: Have you experienced anything like you have written? Jamelle: To some degree, yes. Cleavester: What advice would you give to someone that is in an abusive relationship? Jamelle: You have to learn how to love yourself and then you'll realize your true worth. I think, for the most part, people who are in an abusive relationship; it’s because they've lost the value of self and look for the validation and value to come from another source. Cleavester: What do you hope will come from your book?

8

Jamelle: A level of respect for gay characters. I get so tired of hearing how all of the men in gay books are battling with their sexuality or how we are the good-good girl friends. Cleavester: Who are your favorite writers? Jamelle: I would have to say E. Lynn Harris, Zane, Eric Jerome Dickey, Omar Tyree, James Earl Hardy, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker and Zora Neal Hurston... Not to mention, V.C. Andrews... Cleavester: Which talent would you most like to have? Jamelle: I would love to be able to sing. I love the emotion that singing can draw out of people. Cleavester: Who is your favorite hero of fiction? Jamelle: That would be Janie from the book There Eyes Were Watching GOD; she is a complete character... And when you go on her journey its not that you’re rooting for her to have a better life instead its that when you get to the end you're happy she had a life fulfilled. Cleavester: What is your guilty pleasure?

Jamelle: My guilty pleasure would be the food network. I love Paula Deen, the Neeley’s and Ina Garten. Cleavester: What is your idea of perfect happiness? Jamelle: My idea of perfect happiness is accepting that nothing is perfect and everything takes work. Cleavester: Favorite quote? Jamelle: "Worry about today, because tomorrow isn’t promised and yesterday is already gone." My grandmother told me that. Cleavester: Bad habit? Jamelle: Cursing... I rarely do it, but when I do, I cuss like a sailor.

9

Cleavester: Tell me something about you that your fans may be surprised to know? Jamelle: That I am extremely shy when I first meet people. No one ever believes me when I say that. But I tell people if they watch me in a new environment I sit off to the side or stand against the wall alone for a long time or until I feel certain energy. Cleavester: What can we expect from you in the future? Jamelle: More books.... I've just finished writing a novel called Wines&Spirits which I don't think people will expect something like this coming from me... It’s darker than the other two books. Cleavester: How can the people get in contact with you? Jamelle: The best way to reach me is on face book under www.facebook.com/J.Omarr76 or email me at jomarr1976@gmail.com I try to answer every piece of mail I get. Cleavester: Thank you J Omarr, Do you have any special message for our readers? Jamelle: Just to believe that all things are possible, because when you believe they are possible then you know you can make them happen.

What’s The T? The Entertainment Report Kitty Kelley’s ‘Oprah’ Tell-All Due in April A long-brewing Oprah Winfrey tell-all written by gossip-flavored author Kitty Kelley will finally hit stores in April, Crown Publishers announced Thursday. The 544-page, unauthorized “Oprah: A Biography” will be released April 13, according to the Associated Press. The first printing will be at least 500,000 copies. Kelley, who has also written salacious biographies about Frank Sinatra, Nancy Reagan and the Bush family, says she has high regard for Winfrey, but also felt committed to writing the truth. Crown says Kelley conducted 850 interviews for the book over the past three years. The author says she came away with “full of admiration for her accomplishments and fascinated by her complexity.” Diddy’s Son Justin to Film MTV’s ‘Sweet 16′ Sean “Diddy” Combs is throwing his eldest son Justin an extravagant “Prince of New York” 16th birthday party that will be featured on MTV’s reality series “My Super Sweet 16.” A source told the New York Daily News: “The club will be decorated with images from the New York skyline.” Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Floyd Mayweather, Lil Kim, Jay-Z and Beyonce are among the guests tapped to appear at the extravaganza, the newspaper reported. The party is being produced by famed event planner Bronson Van Wyck and is slated to take place this Saturday (Jan. 23) at M2 Ultra Lounge in Manhattan, according to allhiphop.com. The episode will air in March. In lieu of gifts for Justin, Diddy will reportedly ask partygoers to donate money to the relief effort in Haiti. Conan O'Brien Exits NBC NBC said this morning during The Today Show that it has reached a $45 million dollar deal with late nite host Conan O'Brien for his exit from the Tonight show, allowing Jay Leno to return to the late-night program he hosted for the last 17 years. Under the deal, which came seven months after O'Brien took the reins from Leno, O'Brien will get more than $33 million, NBC said. The rest will go to his staff in severance, the network said. Conan's final show will be Friday, and Leno will return to Tonight on March 1.

Our sources tell us that FOX is now preparing to make him an offer for the fall, when Conan can legally come back to TV. Steve Harvey comes to Feud We just discovered that comedian Steve Harvey is about to jump back into the game show world, and he will be tapped as the new host of the syndicated show Family Feud. Harvey replaces former host John O'Hurley, who is departing the show after four seasons. Harvey will officially take over the reins next fall, when the current version of the show enters its 12th season. Harvey is no stranger to the hosting world, having hosted the talent show Steve Harvey's Big Time Challenge for the WB network. Meanwhile, Harvey will also continue to host his nationally syndicated radio show Steve Harvey Morning Show, heard in 64 markets and by 7 million listeners daily. One of the Kings of Comedy, Harvey's TV credits including the WB's The Steve Harvey Show and ABC's Me and the Boys. More recently, Harvey wrote the bestselling book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. Looks like a good move for the former King Of Comedy.

Mo’Nique goes on Tour If you happened to watch the Red Carpet of the Critics Choice Awards (and the ratings state that you probably didn't) The Queen Of Comedy Mo'Nique was asked if she was ever going back to comedy. Mo'Nique then stated that not only has she never left comedy she plans on going back on tour at the end of February, or early March to at least 30 cities. No word yet on which cities she plans on touring but we will let you know as soon as we find out. If you can't wait to see her perform, she is about to host The Shaquille O'Neal All Star Comedy Jam in Dallas during the NBA All Star Weekend. The show features Mike Epps, Michael Blackson, Paul Mooney and Corey Holcomb to name a few, and is produced by Codeblack Entertainment.

Mo'Nique, the current Host of late night show on BET titled The Mo'Nique Show, is currently back in production for her show, and films Monday through Friday, plus being a mother to new born set of twins. All we can say is WOW! Seems like her already crazy schedule is about to get even crazier, if that's even possible!
