MUSEUMVIRUS Educational game for interactive white-board, individual project for Kunsthal, Rotterdam How to bridge the gap between traditional education and the new learning practice proposed by new media and games? Museumvirus is an educational game which combines in a unique and compelling playing experience school and museum. Children identify themselves with viruses and, “hacking the system of the exhibition, they discover secret information. The game is divided in 3 phases: 1. identification with the virus profiles at school 2. hacking session in the museum 3. reflection back at school. Programming: P.Remmerswaal, Contents: A. van Leeuwen, E. van Diggelen, M. van der Ham (Kunsthal) Northernlight online game publication (dutch)

photo: Fred Ernst 2011_Graduation project_TU Delft

1: preparation at school

Through an online game, children get to know the 4 virus identities, based on 4 learning types. They create groups according to the virus identities.

photo: Fabio Baldo

Client: Kunsthal, Rotterdam_Partners: Northernlight, Amsterdam

2: hacking the exhibition

4 booklets, 4 sets of questions, 4 decoding glasses, one for each virus group. Children need to decode the questions and the secret hints spread throughout the exhibition. At the end a secret code will be revealed.

3: reflection back at school

Inserting the secret code in the online game, children can play with an interactive story, combining the information they gathered in the museum. Dragging the missing words into the story text, the illustrations get animated.

E C O V I L L E Service/game for a sustainable grocery for Shifft. team: Jan Bergen, Sergio G. Cordeiro, Ohyoon Kwon, Merel Pick Ecoville is a product-service system designed to increase consumers’ awareness in terms of sustainability in the FMCG market. In the supermarket the information about the footprint of each product is displayed through product scanners and/or a mobile application. Using the existing Albert Heijn database of costumers’ purchases, Ecoville shows to each consumer the effects of his/her grocery on a virtual ecosystem.

E R N E S T Home energy management system for Eneco team: Edoardo Costa, Stephane Blokhuis, Maarten Boks, Loek Canton

Our house is constantly using energy, even when we do not realize it. Ernest makes you aware of the consumption of your house and helps you to manage your costs. With an RFID keyring, you can define and activate your personal settings, which will be activated every time you enter your home.

NESTBENCH warm and versatile public furniture NestBench is a public bench specifically designed to be a warm, attractive spot for the youngsters of Pavia. The material used (pipes made for floor heating systems) allows the bench to be warmed up. Thanks to the variable sections of the structure, it allows different configurations of the seat. The last layer of pipes can be adjusted by the users for a more comfortable seat.

LIGHT ME A STORY Children night-lamp

Why don’t you light me a story? The three movable layers of this lamp are like pages of a book to be projected on the wall. Stickers and a colourable surface allow children to play always a different story.

L E G O _ M B Confidential project for Lego team: Lisa op ‘t Hof, Peter Hermans, Enrico Moccia, Hengfeng Chi Our student team was asked to design an experience that was ‘obviously LEGO but never seen before from LEGO’ The team was composed by different design expertise (strategic design, design engineering and design for interaction). We delivered a complete project, from the design proposal to the working prototype and the business plan. My role was to lead the conceptual design phase and to plan and conduct user tests with children. The project is confidential.

Perugia, the hilltop capital of Umbria, is famous for its environmental friendly public transport system: MiniMetrò, a light railway powered by an electric motor. ma0 and NAIF were aiming at expanding the MiniMetrò system with more lines. ZAPP (pedestrian priority zone) is a vision of the city in 2020, with more MiniMetrò lines implemented and with a system of interconnected public transportation means. My role was to communicate effectively to the citizens the advantages of the proposal through a city map. Moreover I was responsible for the graphic visualizations of the feasibility study delivered to the municipality.
