UNDERGRADUATE WORKS 2017-2019

Architecture is the ability to express feelings and emotions through the design and creation of buildings. Without architecture, what would give life to the areas we inhabit and interact with everyday? This portfolio follows my journey through the undergraduate architecture program at Clemson University.

GOWANUS OFFICE BUILDING FALL 2019

The first project during my third year consisted of designing a coworking space on a site located adjacent to the G o w a n u s Ca n a l i n B r o o k l y n , N e w Yo r k . Working in two person groups, we spent an entire semester on this project, the design for which required imense detail and attention to how the building would work with the site and the canal. This design represents the largest project I’ve worked on to date in both scale of building and amaount of time taken.

COLUMBIA PUBLIC LIBRARY SPRING 2019

For my final project during my second year, I designed a public library, which was located close to downtown Columbia on the intersection of Sumter and Franklin. My design includes a large central collection with multiple smaller study areas, conference and classrooms, a makerspace, an auditorium, an exterior garden, and a patio.

CHARLESTON ART CENTER FALL 2018

The purpose of the Charleston Art Center project was to create a place that would engage and encourage human interaction among the surrounding community. The design had to account to account for community concerns surrounding gentrification, as well as the fact that the site was a park located within a flood plane in North Charleston.

FACADE STUDY FALL 2017

For this project, I was instructed to analyze Lowry Hall, which is a building on Clemson’s campus with a strong horizontal presence using multiple long rows of windows, interupted only by a central tower. I broke down each element of the building, identified the strengths and weaknesses within the design, and concluded on a possible hypothesis for why the arhitect chose the design.

CASE STUDY SPRING 2018

For this project, I was instructed to select an object, break it down, and analyze it through the use of different mediums, which included plans, sections, and physical models.

CANOPY ESQUISSE FALL 2018

To open my second year of undergrad we were provided an equisse with the intent of creating a canopy to go outside of Lee III, which is Clemson’s primary architecture building. The idea was to utilize folded paper patterns to create a shape and develop that into functional canopy.

SPARTANBURG PREP FOLLY FALL 2018

The purpose of the Spartanburg Prep folly was to create an inviting space that is warm and welcoming for children. The design process involved multiple iterations that became more detailed as they progressed until having reached a final design that could show all wanted interactions and elements.

ISSAQUEENA PARK CABIN SPRING 2019

Designing a cabin can be interesting because you are able to step away from all the modern appliances and just go back to the routes of creating a shelter. I had to create five cabins that ran along a hillside looking over lake Issaqueena, located directly next to Clemsons campus. I found this project interesting because of its primitive nature-the design was focused entirely on creating a functioinal structure without concern for accommodating modern conveniences, such as appliances.
