Why are Hot Spot™ Sensors superior for Asphalt Production?
H.E.A.T. INC.
Accurate temperature measurement is the most critical component for product quality in the Hot Mix asphalt industry. Even more so today with the many mixes and tight standards required of those mixes. In the past, the only option for temperature measurement for mix has been thermocouples. Over time, these can become unreliable due to a number of factors. The thermocouple has to be in constant contact with the material to ensure accurate measurement of the mix. Depending upon the production rate and the insertion length of the thermocouple; the contact of the thermocouple and material is not consistent. Further, the wear and tear on the thermocouple also has a negative effect on the ability of the thermocouple to provide accurate temperature measurement of the mix. Hot Spot™ Non-Contact Pyrometers use advanced Infrared technology to provide fast and accurate measurement of product temperature, without ever having to come in contact with it. They are very versatile and can function anywhere as long as there is a clear line of sight to the target. Allowing them to measure objects in the harshest environments, without being subjected to them. This negates the need to replace worn and failing thermocouples thereby reducing operating costs associated with a new thermocouple, plant downtime and potential defective material.

Virtually any step of the production process can now be monitored and with a longer lasting Non-Contact Red Eye Sensor. Temperature measurements can be incorporated into recording devices, control loops, and indicators through an analog output. If a pre-existing chart recorder is not available, don’t worry. The Red Eye Sensor is also available with easyto-use data logging software and hardware. This allows for fast and accurate information storage straight to a personal computer. The program allows this information to be conveniently emailed to the producers QC department or other departments requiring this information.
Hot Spot™ Non-contact Pyrometers are perfect for measuring mix temperature as it moves out of the dryer and up the conveyer.
Hot Spot™ Sensors are built to withstand the harsh conditions of an asphalt plant.

Spot™ Sensors are specifically designed to operate in the severe working conditions of an asphalt plants. All electrical components are sealed in an NEMA 4 rated enclosure and the sensing head itself has a stainless steel NEMA 4 rated body. To provide extra protection every sensor comes equipped with an air purging sight tube to provide cooling and prevent debris from blocking the sensors line of sight. An optional water-cooled housing unit and an air purge collar can be provided to add extra cooling, if needed.

Optional Real-Time Data Logging
H.E.A.T. INC.
Optional hardware and software can be added that will transfer the information from the Red Eye Sensor to a computer. The data loggers can store temperature readings, scale factors, and offset values. The user can program specified recording times, length and recording intervals. The software converts your PC into a real time paperless strip chart recorder. Data can be printed in graphical or tabular format and can be exported to a text or Microsoft Excel file.
