WELCOME A warm welcome to Hungate Cottages, your quiet and peaceful home from home - and the ideal place from which to explore the many delights of Yorkshire all year round. The 11 cottages have been beautifully converted from mid-18th century farm courtyards and retain much of their original character with old stone arches, fi replaces and beams. Hungate’s setting - the old stone paths and ‘secret’ gardens - give it a ‘village within a village’ feel. Inside, the high quality furnishings and décor create a warm welcoming atmosphere. The children have a secure play area and you also have free use of Pickering’s superb swimming pool just 3 minute’s walk away. Perfect.

N ice cottage, very clean and well equipped

We enjoyed a good pub meal at The Buck Inn, Wrelton. Another good venue was the pub in Sinnington. It was handy having the pass for Dalby Forest, spent all day there walking, and picnicking in the children’s play area. The children loved the play area at the cottages too. June 2013

A lovely well-equipped cottage. Ideal base for a lovely family holiday. SeaLife Centre at Scarborough, Peasholm Park, and Flamingo Land were great. Dalby Forest for a great free day out. June 2013 13

Despite snow flurries and bitter winds all week, we have had a wonderful holiday, proving that there is much to do regardless of the weather. The children loved the SeaLife Centre at Scarborough, Eden Camp and using the local swimming pool. I loved climbing up to the Bridestones, pootling around the town, and scoffing a fabulous cream tea at Nunnington Hall. Pickering church definitely worth a look - the wall paintings are very special - and we had a very warm welcome there. March 2013 We have been coming to this area for over 40 years. 14

Best cottage we have stayed in.

March 2013

We have been coming here for over 26 years and still find new things to do. Never visted Dalby Forest before - why?! It was so peaceful, especially enjoyed my wheelchair trip around the lake. June 2013 A family of 6 adults, 2 toddlers and doggy - we made ourselves at home here at Hungate within the hour! The fire lit, kettle on and feet up. Following morning to sit in this beautiful garden and have breakfast listening to the birds was just heavenly. Hungate is “home from home” - we have loved our stay here, and will be back. Robin Hood’s Bay - great for dogs! May 2013 17

Rievaulx The fi rst Cistercian Abbey in northern England, Rievaulx was once the largest and most important monastery in the country. Its beautiful ruins lie in a magical quiet valley, described by an Abbott as “everywhere peace, everywhere tranquillity”.

Whitby 18

Dominated by the beautiful 13C Abbey (up the 99 steps), Whitby is a traditional maritime town with cobbled streets and sandy “blue fl ag” beach. Captain Cook served his apprenticeship here before his Endeavour explorations – his house is now his museum.

There is no better place to be snowed up!

Had a great week, lots of walking and back to a lovely log fire. Thank you. April 2013

A nother first class visit. Thanks Jerry & Barbara for the stunning weather and your team for the excellent standard of cottage and gardens. The Royal Fisheries in Whitby for fi sh and chips as good as the Magpie but no queues! May 2013 21

This is our second visit and we have enjoyed both the cottage and all that’s

on offer in the local area. Particular highlights have included Eden Camp, Playdale Farm, the beach at Sandsend, and the Hole of Horcum walk. The Tea Shop and the Cedar Barn were both very good and the White Swan was excellent for a child-free meal! April 2013

Been here several times especially at Christmas and New Year. Really

22

H ere for the umpteenth time and still enjoying it. The Moors are unique. May 2013

First visit to Hungate with our sister and brother in law and will deďŹ nitely come again. Everything perfect with the cottage and so many places to visit. Excellent pub meals at Cayley Arms and Fox & Rabbit, and visits to Hutton-le-Hole, Thornton Le Dale and Rievaulx Abbey so good. Whitby and Scarborough always worth a visit. Could have stayed another week and not been bored. April 2013 25

We have really enjoyed our stay at this fabulous home-from-home cottage. It has everything to keep our toddler safe and happy.

June 2013

Enjoyed our visit very much - plenty of nice walking in the area and we particularly appreciated little touches in the cottage - postcards with stamps and a pint of milk waiting on arrival. Would certainly recommend Hungate very highly. March 2013

26

THE CARRS Sleeps 4 This is a charming ‘town’ cottage - a bit separate from the other cottages. We’ve had another super New Year in Pickering and Ellerbeck cottage was as good as we remembered. The new kitchen and suite are smashing additions to the cottage. Jan 2013

O ur 3rd stay at Hungate and our friend’s first visit. Despite the cold weather, we’ve done all our favourite things: Whitby (& the Magpie Cafe), Sandsend, Scarborough, Eden Camp, Goathland, Malton and of course, Pickering itself. The cottage was extrememly comfortable and well-equipped - a perfect base to explore this beautiful area. Nov 2012

W e all felt so at home here... enjoyed aqua aerobics at the pool and free pass to Dalby Forest. Hungate Cottages are so quiet but have the beneďŹ t of being in the town. Took the train to Newtondale Halt and walked back to Pickering - 12 miles by the high Moor route - so worth the effort: beautiful views and highland cattle! June 2013 L ovely stay in Pickering. Excellent, warm and well-appointed cottage. Playground was well used. Pool, Dalby Forest, Eden Camp and steam train all enjoyed. Keep up the good work Barbara & Jerry! Apr 2013

33

O ur ďŹ rst time at Hungate and it won’t be the last. Bransdale is a very relaxing cottage and the 5 window aspect is beautiful, catching all the lovely sunny weather. The whole complex is delightful, just like a wonderland off the busy market town. July 2013 Wow what a little treat! A perfect location to explore the surrounding

34

countryside. We thoroughly recommend mountain biking in Dalby Forest. Not for the weak hearted but there are varying degrees of levels that should suit all. May 2013

We had a lovely stay and particularly enjoyed the garden in the sunshine.

The White Swan in Pickering is expensive but excellent quality. Cilantro was a good Indian and welcoming to small children and the Horseshoe Inn in Levisham was very friendly to walkers, as usual. Good walks on Levisham Moor and Rosedale. NYMR much enjoyed by everyone. May 2013

Excellent accommodation and garden with play park very close. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed returning to the cottage at the end of the day. June 2013
