John Welsh – Headmaster
Welcome The Sixth Form at Bexley Grammar School
gives students the confidence
to succeed in whatever they
aspire to do in their life after school. We develop their ability to study independently, their learning habits, their depth of knowledge and their compassion. Each of these attributes prepares them both for university life and for the world of employment. A great deal is expected of our Sixth Form students. They set the tone for the rest of the school. They have numerous leadership opportunities and we expect our senior students to take on responsibilities, which impact on many areas of school life. In return, the school is responsive to the individual needs of all Sixth Form students and staff are always ready to ‘go the extra mile’ for them.

“Sixth Form provision is outstanding. Students make excellent progress and achieve results that are significantly higher than those found nationally. Ofsted 2007
Sixth Form students
can study a wide range of A-levels or the International
Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme
Challenging St Sixth Form students can study a wide range of A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme. The IB is a rich and challenging course that encourages independence. It aims to develop internationally minded, compassionate young people who become active, life-long learners. Many of our students who have opted for this route have successfully gained places at Oxford, Cambridge or other renowned higher education institutions both here and abroad. Students who choose to study A-levels currently take four subjects, but can also choose from a wide range of enrichment courses, ranging from Critical Thinking to GCSE Astronomy and British Sign Language. Standards in the Sixth Form are very high. Many students go on to prestigious universities after taking either academic route.

Leadership builds
confidence and reveals
potential We offer a range of leadership opportunities to Sixth Form students who are all expected to contribute in some way to the welfare of our school community.
Relationships between staff and students in the Sixth Form are regarded as partnerships. Staff treat students as young adults and this is evident in the way our students keenly accept and carry out their leadership roles. Trips abroad form a significant part of Sixth Form life; working with staff from particular subject areas our students have visited America, China and Vietnam. The enthusiasm and drive of our senior students are admired and emulated by younger students.
“They are very well prepared for their future lives. A particularly strong feature of the school is the amount of responsibility it gives to students.Ofsted 2007

Sixth Form
students
Recipe for Succ Each student has a Form Tutor for two years and a Director of Studies, who is in turn supported by two Senior Academic Mentors. This team monitors welfare and academic progress, helps with writing CVs and UCAS applications and organises visits to universities. Our Careers Advisor also provides individual advice on future employment and training. Our Sixth Form students leave us with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the world. We give them the confidence to believe in their potential; to believe that there is no reason why they should not achieve at the very highest level in whatever field they choose.
