Welcome to John Perryn A Safe Haven for Discovering Talents

Welcome to John Perryn Primary School, a vibrant community where we aim to develop a love for learning. We are passionate that every child in our care should achieve his or her full potential. Through a stimulating curriculum, dedicated staff and excellent resources, we want our pupils to be challenged and motivated, yet also to feel safe and cared for. We strive for academic excellence and have high expectations for all our children. We also nurture their physical, social, cultural, moral and spiritual development. This concern for the whole child is reflected in the fact that our superb facilities incorporate a Children’s Centre that offers a range of services to local families. The school’s provision for children aged 3 to 11 is enhanced by daycare for 0 to 3s and breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs in the Children’s Centre, ensuring professional childcare from 7.00am to 7.00pm. We believe that, as a parent or carer, you play an essential role in your child’s learning. Education is a partnership between home and school and we look forward to working with you to discover your child’s talents and passions.

“ I am very happy with the school and the progress my child is making.” Parent 2009

Superb Facilities for Making Learning Fun With brand-new buildings and state-of-theart facilities, our school is fully equipped to make learning exciting for children of all abilities. Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard and these powerful tools, along with audio visual equipment and many laptops, are used extensively to enhance teaching and learning. Pupils also benefit from a range of fantastic resources including a library, sports facilities, play areas and theatrical staging with professional lighting. At John Perryn, we follow the International Primary Curriculum, a broad and balanced programme that is designed to engage pupils in

hands-on learning experiences. Combined with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, this more creative approach to education is proving successful in achieving progress, especially for learners with English as an additional language. We identify and support gifted and talented children who require extra challenge, as well as those needing additional help in basic skills. Where a child has special educational needs or a disability, our specialist staff work closely with parents to ensure their requirements are met. Our new buildings and grounds have full disabled access.

“ ‌the school has good strategies to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to make the best possible progress.â€? Ofsted 2010

A Positive Place for Developing Confidence Embracing our multicultural identity within a friendly and safe community, we maintain a calm and orderly atmosphere in which effective learning can take place. The school fosters respect for one another, self-discipline and honesty. With pupils’ achievements celebrated at every level, we create a positive environment in which everyone feels valued, enjoys their work and achieves their best. This ethos encourages children to become confident and independent in both their work and social activities. In addition to arranging a number of visits to places of educational interest, we invite interesting speakers to present to the school. Year 6 pupils enjoy a week’s residential trip to a working farm in Devon and all children benefit from our links to schools in Sunderland and Asia. There are many extracurricular opportunities – including inter-school competitions – for sports including football, basketball and netball; to learn a new language such as French, Spanish or German; to acquire a new skill including sewing, cookery and photography; and to perform with choir, dance and drama clubs. Children are encouraged to take positions of responsibility, with some representing their peers on the School Council and others acting as mediators/buddies for younger pupils.

“ Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good. They enjoy school, feel very safe and have positive attitudes to learning.” Ofsted 2010
