THE JYN VISION Why a building? Do we really need more bricks and mortar in the Jewish GTA? The Jewish population in the GTA under the age of 24 exceeds 60,000, most of which are not engaged at all in any sort of program that promotes Jewish identity and continuity. We truly believe—and are firmly resolved-- that we can reach every single young Jewish person in the GTA, and illuminate their pathway to Jewish identity with
knowledge and guidance. The building, as a facility, is an essential tool to help us achieve this mission. And as the mission will extend far beyond the actual walls of this building, we are committed to taking the steps to progressively develop the programs, infrastructure and opportunity that resonates with today’s youth in a way that they understand. This building is the first of its kind. A new concept responding to the needs of a new generation.
“A NEW CONCEPT RESPONDING TO THE NEEDS OF A NEW GENERATION”
“THE NEW SPACE WILL ALLOW US TO... BRING EVERYTHING IN THE NORTHERN GTA UNDER ONE ROOF.”
THE PROJECT JYN currently operates out of three different rental locations within the GTA. Given the growth of the program and the steadily increasing student enrolment over the past seven years, the current physical space that is available at these venues is neither practical nor conducive for further growth. Furthermore, the cost of renting various locations is not sustainable in the long term and does not support a consistent revenue stream for JYN.
This new space will allow us to drop all our existing rental facilities and bring everything in the northern GTA under one roof. It will also give us the ability to run multiple classes at once, so we can offer a greater variety of courses and programs to all grades simultaneously. We will have plenty of room to grow from within, as well as to create functional recreational space outdoors.
THE LOCATION The new location of our future JYN Campus in on the east side of Bathurst Street, between Birch St. and Teefy St. in Richmond Hill. The location of this property is strategically convenient, as it is a stone’s throw from the new Lebovic Campus and the surrounding develop-
ment. It also incorporates Thornhill Woods and the nearby Westmount Community. This of course makes the property greatly appealing, as it is a prime location for the young and developing Jewish community in the northern sector of the city.
PROJECT COST We have secured this property with a deposit in June 2013. It is our goal to pay off the land purchase and begin construction on the new centre in 2016. The purchase price of the land was $2.85 million. As we move ahead towards being shovel ready we take into account building costs for
the new centre, landscaping, moving costs, legals and loss of operational donations as people extend themselves for this project. We estimate the building cost to be $5.4 million. We have therefore realistically set our goal for this entire project at $8,250,000.
