A WARM JEWISH ENVIRONMENT OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY.

In 2013, JRCC South Thornhill was established with the goal of serving the Russianspeaking Jewish community in the Bathurst & Steeles-Clark area. The dream was to create a community with a warm Jewish environment open to all members of the Jewish community.

In 2014, with the addition of Rabbi Levi and Mushky Blau , our small community soon grew into a welcoming Jewish center, complete with

classes, programs and our very own shul. Our unique brand of warmth and sense of community touched hundreds of people who passed through our doors to study, grow and connect. Today, JRCC is what many in our diverse family of Russian Jews call “home”. It is a place where the physical and spiritual needs of our community are met. It is a place where people from all walks of life - regardless of background - feel welcome.

IT IS TIME TO EXPAND

We are proud of the powerful and thriving community we created over the past six years. And as we continue to grow, we must continue to meet the needs of our expanding community. The time has come to establish our very own community center. It is vital that we have our own central hub that will allow us to expand our:

A center that will cater to every member of our community - even the very youngest - with a space exclusively for children. The programs you’ve come to know and love will continue with even more vigor as we expand our reach and invite each and every community member into our new home.

WITH THE HELP OF G-D, WE SIGNED ON THE PURCHASE OF A PROPERTY FOR OUR NEW SITE AT 28 TOWNSGATE.

The center will be strategically located right off Bathurst Street and north of Steeles Avenue, a stone’s throw from our current location and within walking distance for our community members. The space is large enough to accommodate events and prayer services and has ample parking options. Because the top floor will be used as a residential dwelling, the bylaws allow for religious services and social events to take place at the bottom two floors.

Plans for the 2,400 square foot indoor space include a magnificent sanctuary and a state-of-the-art event space, a meat kitchen, the rabbi’s office and two children’s rooms.

The 1,000+ square foot outdoor space will include a patio and garden for lounge, play and outdoor events. The beautiful landscape and side walkway will make the grounds inviting and accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, and the 300+ square foot deck will be the perfect place for us to build a sukkah for our large community.

The new JRCC South Thornhill Center will be open to every Jew in our area who is searching for a meaningful Jewish experience. We look forward to being able to serve you at an even greater capacity as we expand our programs and offerings.

Our state-of-the-art center will serve as the central hub for all of our daily activities. The donor will have the opportunity to name the building with a permanent and prominent display on the building’s exterior and on the Donors’ Wall.

Our shul services, social gatherings, events and simchas will be hosted in this magnificent 1250 square foot sanctuary and event hall. This space will be able to accommodate approximately 200 people standing, 130 people seated and 85 people seated at tables.

This wall will celebrate the people who partner with us to build our dream center. Major donors and room dedications will be prominently displayed on the stunning Donors’ Wall which will be aptly situated in the Centre’s entrance lobby.

KIDDIE KORNER

Equipped with built-in cabinetry and stocked with toys, books and activities, this space will allow even the youngest members to feel part of our community. The children’s playroom will host Shabbos Programs for children ages 2-5 years old. This weekly 2-hour program will create a warm and educational environment for children to explore their Jewish identity through stories, games and parsha lessons, while parents comfortably join the adult prayer services undisturbed.

Equipped with educational books, games, and activities, this space will help our youth integrate and become central members of our shul and community. This lounge will host the Shabbat Kids Program and weekday events for youth ages 6-12 years old. The weekly 2-hour Shabbat Program will create a warm and educational environment for our youth to explore their Jewish identity through stories, games, and parsha lessons, while parents comfortably join the adult prayer services undisturbed.

Situated right above the Holy Ark, the ner tamid - the eternal flame - will hang in an elegant lamp that will burn perpetually. The light symbolizes the honor we give to the Divine Presence that rests wherever a minyan of Jews gather to pray, and it also represents the light that burned continuously in the Bais Hamikdash.

It is inscribed meticulously by a qualified scribe according to a precise tradition passed down from Moses.
