Village Green Care Home Marston Moretaine
Exceeding others expectations in care
Welcome The village of Marston Moretaine nestles between the major towns of Milton Keynes and Bedford. The scenic village is surrounded by countryside with a small tributary of the River Ouse nearby. The large church of St Mary the Virgin is situated opposite the home as well as a smaller Methodist Church close by. The village centre has several local shops, a pub, an Indian restaurant, post office, doctor’s surgery and an excellent local bus route stops opposite the home. Nearby is the stunning Marston Vale, perfect for afternoon visits, walks and enjoying the open air. Marston Moretaine is on the Marston Vale Railway Line and is served by the Millbrook station, about a mile down the road; trains to which can be boarded at Bedford Station making Village Green Care Home easily accessible. A short drive takes you to the picturesque village of Woburn.
About the home The original building of the home is Grade 2 listed and dated circa 1847. It was first used as a school serving Marston Moretaine and Lidlington. When the school moved to larger building, the Old Village School Nursing Home opened in 1988. In 2016, the home undertook a major renovation and became Village Green Care Home. The building was extended in 1999 and now has a total of 60 bedrooms decorated to a high standard in a contemporary style, most of which offer larger en-suite facilities. Rooms have telephone points, safety features and a nurse call point. The home itself is divided into three individual communities; Oak Avenue, Elm Drive and Beech Street, each with up to 23 bedrooms so residents are offered all the benefits of a bigger care home whilst maintaining the friendly atmosphere of a smaller community.
The home is resident led, meaning each community has the freedom and ability to meet and decide what suits their needs for their residents and how they would like their care to be delivered. We look forward to welcoming you and showing you around our home. Village Green Care Home constantly strive to ensure they meet and exceed set levels of care and expectation. It is vital that all Village Green residents feel safe, secure and supported within the home but most of all, feel happy and comfortable as Village Green really is their home.
“My father, was a resident at the Old Village School for around 9 years. We were very happy with the level of care he received, he was always well looked after, the staff were friendly, there was plenty of stimulation and the food was excellent. He was happy, comfortable and settled in the home and we really appreciate the high standards of care and service he received. When dad went into hospital for a short time, one member of staff even visited during his own time to check on his progress. We couldn’t have asked for more
Philosophy of care At Village Green Care Home we understand the importance of delivering care that supports you to feel comfortable and safe within your home. We also recognise the importance of supporting you to remain as independent as possible through careful care planning. Our staff will develop a professional relationship with each of the people that live in the home. We recognise the need to treat people as individuals and ensure that they feel involved in decisions within their home.
At the very heart of our home is the principle that this is your home and wherever possible it is you, the people who live at Village Green Care Home, who should lead the home and your care. Our staff aim to exceed others expectations in care through honest and open discussions and clear communication with you, our residents.
Visiting professionals GP
Chiropodist
The home is supported by the GP surgery located only a few doors away from the home. Appointments can be made for the GP to visit at the home, unless a surgery visit is preferred in which case staff will assist residents to the surgery.
A visiting chiropodist (separate charge applicable) supports footcare for residents.
Pharmacist Medications are supplied by Boots pharmacy and they regularly carry out audits within the home as an extra safety measure. We have an excellent service for emergency medications should the need arise. Optician The home benefits from a visiting optician who offers a range of NHS services and lenses. Eye examinations are usually carried out annually but if a problem was noted with eyesight, an appointment can be made on your behalf. Audiologist Village Green also benefits from a visiting audiologist (hearing services) who can perform hearing tests as well as servicing hearing aids.
Physiotherapy If the need arises to see a physiotherapist or occupational therapist, a referral will be made via your GP and the specialist will usually see you in the home. Staff will be given advice to support recovery as well as providing any equipment required. District Nurse Although the home benefits from a full nursing team, some residents may be residential funded and use the district nurse and social worker support services.
Hospitality Village Green does not believe that visiting times should be limited and encourage you to invite guests at your convenience. We can provide a family meal in the main dining room for you to enjoy together. Family film showings complete with popcorn are a firm favourite with grandchildren visiting the home (as well as adults who remain young at heart!) and perhaps a stroll in the grounds or an evening in the private McLaughlin Suite is a lovely way to spend valuable family time. There really is something for everyone at Village Green. Residents can spend their days as they wish, choosing to relax in their room, enjoy the gardens or lounge or take in a movie. For the comfort of residents, quiet rooms are provided on Elm Drive and Beech Avenue.
The Library on Elm Drive is equipped with a computer providing internet access as well as being stocked with fiction and non-fiction books. On Beech Avenue, the Georgian room is the perfect spot to sit and catch up on the daily newspapers or listen to the radio. A range of activities are offered each day based on the preferences of residents. The program also includes one to one activities for those who prefer not to take part in group activities. Should residents wish to go out for the day, staff can arrange a packed lunch to make the most of your day.
Dining room facilities Meal times are a relaxed affair, served in the dining room. However, service users are welcome to request their meal be brought to their bedroom if they prefer. Village Green benefits from larger communal dining rooms in each community as well as the McLaughlin Suite. This ensures service users are free to choose the facilities that suit them best. Fresh, seasonal foods are offered on the menu and are locally sourced wherever possible. Village Green grows its own herbs and some vegetables within the garden. Our chefs will meet with residents individually to take requests regularly and discuss changes to the seasonal menus. The McLaughlin Suite offers a restaurant style dining space for up to four; perfect for a special, intimate evening with a partner or a family evening, with the close support of staff on hand should they be needed. A full waiting service is available in the McLaughlin Suite and after a meal here, the private snug is the perfect place to retire to.

The McLaughlin Suite We recognise that when people live in a care home, it is difficult to have time alone with visitors without retreating to your bedroom. For some residents this is made all the more difficult by health needs which can make it difficult to leave the home. Village Green Care Home has therefore added two rooms - The McLaughlin Suite. Named after a former resident, this dining room and snug provide a space for a family meal or special evening in followed by a retreat to the snug to relax for the rest of the evening together. Mrs McLaughlin moved to Marston to look after an elderly relative and had no other family. Here she met and married her husband and, being an older couple,
they had no children together but spent all of their spare time teaching dance, music and volunteering within the community. She moved to the old Village School Nursing Home in 1988 and was one of the first residents. Mrs McLaughlin spent her life caring for others and her community and as the last in her family line, we wanted to create a permanent remembrance of this lady in the community she loved so dearly.
Facilities Bedrooms choices Many of our bedrooms on the ground floor offer direct access to the garden or courtyard areas. Most bedrooms also offer en-suite facilities (WC and hand wash basin) and are all generous in size. Each bedroom has two call bell points to request assistance as necessary. En-suites are fitted with bathroom cabinets to ensure residents have plenty of space for personal belongings. Outdoor Areas A large, well planted garden offers a variety of seating areas and is secured by fencing and hedgerows. There are a variety of small courtyards and several bedrooms which benefit from their own outdoor seating areas. A gardener visits weekly but we also welcome residents having their own bedding plant area if they wish to tend to this. At the rear of the main garden is a vegetable patch and herb bed. Here you will also find our chickens and their fresh morning eggs! Spa & Sensory bathroom Our spa bathroom has a large sensory bath complete with lights and jacuzzi jets. Great for a long soak but also for assisting in relieving some aches and pains. The bath features an integral hoist so all residents can enjoy this touch of luxury.
