FORT LAUDERDALE FLORIDA

LAB TOWER IN FORT LAUDERDALE BEACH. IT IS COMPOSED OF MODULAR UNITS THAT ARE SHIFTED TO GENERATE A DYNAMIC OPTICAL ILLUSION. ITS INTENDED MOVEMENT BREAKS WITH THE CONTEMPORARY MONOTONY OF OUR STATIC BUILT ENVIRONMENT. IT IS A HINT TO WHAT'S NEXT IN BUILDING TYPOLOGIES. THE IDEA OF THIS PROJECT IS TO CREATE A BUILDING THAT IS NEW, FEASIBLE, AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING. THE DESIGN CONSISTS OF EXISTING MATERIALS THAT ARE PUT TOGETHER TO PRODUCE A NEW OUTWARDS PRODUCES A DYNAMIC PERCEPTION OPPOSITE TO THE STATIC REPETITIVE BUILT ENVIRONMENT SURROUNDING THE SITE. THE UNITS ARE

ROAD. THE ENTIRE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS IS INTENDED TO BE SIMPLE TO PROVIDE THE PROBABILITY OF RELOCATION. THE STRUCTURE FUNCTIONS AS AN ASSEMBLY OF LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIALS. IN THE EVENT OF RELOCATION EACH MODULAR UNIT IS STRUCTURALLY INDEPENDENT, ALLOWING ITS DETACHMENT. THE BUILDING’S MODULARITY CREATES AN INTERESTING COMPOSITION OF INGENUITY. IN ADDITION, THE IDEA OF

COMPACT LIVING IS SET FORTH IN RESPONSE TO PRESENT GROWTH IN POPULATION AND BUILD OUT. COMPACT LIVING ALLOWS FOR MORE RENTABLE SPACE THAT GENERATES ECONOMIC STABILITY. THE DESIGN RESPONDS TO THE URBAN CONTEXT IN ALL THE DIRECTIONS WHERE THE BUILDING TOUCHES THE GROUND. THE PRIMARILY AXIS OF CONNECTION BETWEEN THE INTRACOASTAL AND THE ATLANTIC OCEAN IS EMPHASIS VISUALLY AND PHYSICALLY. THE STRONG VISUAL CONNECTION IS GAINED BY THE CENTRAL RUPTURE OF THE BUILDING. ALLOWING TRANSPARENCY IN THE CENTER CORE ALLOWS LIGHT TO FILTER THE INTERIOR AND REDUCES THE BULK PERCEPTION. IN ADDITION THE PRIMARILY AXIS IS PHYSICALLY EMBRACE BY COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY LEADING TO THE BUILDING. IT ASSURES A HUMAN OCCUPANCY AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE TOWER. THE SECONDARY AXIS OF CONNECTION IS ALONG THE NORTH AND SOUTH PORTION OF THE BUILDING. THE BUILDING IS A STATEMENT OF COMPREHENSION OF THE ARCHITEC TURAL PROFESSION IN ALL ITS ASPECTS.

TIRANA DESIGN WEEKS DESIGN NOW DESIGN CATALYST IS ABOUT AN URBAN PLATFORM TO CREATE A BETTER PLACE FOR PEOPLE, THROUGH THE USE OF DESIGN,ART, ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN INTERVENTIONS. USE ART AS A MEANS TO CREATE SOCIAL CHANGE, INTERACTION, TO THINK BEYOND, TO ASPIRE AND INSPIRE A GREATER AND BETTER FUTURE, ART AS A MEANS OF MEANINGFUL HUMAN GESTURES THAT MOTIVATES/DESIGN CATALYST!. THE PROGRESS AND CHANGING THE PAGE OF PAST YEARS FOR A MEANING FUL AND BRIGHT FUTURE: WITH DESIGN, ART, BEAUTY, COLOR, ARCHITEC

“WHERE THERE IS WILL, THERE IS WAY” EDI RAMA. SOCIAL_IMPETUS IS A RECYCLE/RECLAIMED WOOD PALLET INSTALLATION THAT COMES TO SPARK SOCIAL INTERACTION, AS A MOMENTUM IN THE URBAN CONTEXT THAT INVITES FOR SOCIAL PRIDE AND TO BRING ALBANIANS TOGETHER; TO CREATE A GREATER FORCE TO A PROSPEROUS

SOCIAL_IMPETUS CHANGES AN URBAN MOMENT. IT TRIGERS THE INTERAC TION OF HUMAN LIFE TO THE OBJECT, THE OBJECT TO THE SQUARE, THE SQUARE TO THE CITY, AND THE CITY TO ALL OTHER BENEFITS. SOCIAL_IMPE TUS UTILIZES THE EXISTING MOTHER TEREZA SQUARE FACADES, STAIRS, AND BUILDINGS AS PART OF THE MOMENTUM, IN WHICH IT PLAYS A CRITICAL PART TO FOCUS PEOLPLE’S ATTENTION ON A SPACE OF UNIFICATION. IT USES LOCAL MATERIALS: A DESIGN CONCEPT TO BE MEANT FOR THE LOCALE WITH

THE LARGER SITE HAS AN AREA OF 7488SQM. IT IS BORDERED BY FUDONG STREET ON THE NORTH, LIUXIANG ALLEY ON THE EAST, AND GULOU STREET ON THE SOUTH. THE WEST CONTAINS A LOCAL STREET. THE SMALLER SITE HAS AN AREA OF AROUND 3000SQM, AND IS LOCATED ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE LARGER PLOT DESCRIBED ABOVE. IT IS BORDERED BY GULOU STREET ON THE SOUTH AND THE PINXIANGGE SHOPPING COMPLEX ON THE WEST SIDE.

THIS DESIGN PLAYS WITH THE IDEA OF SLIDING BLOCKS IN ORDER TO MAXIMIZE FLOOR AREAS WHILE RESPECTING SETBACKS. BOTH TOWERS HAVE SIMPLE RECTANGULAR SHAPES WHICH CANTILEVER ON THE HIGHER FLOORS IN ORDER TO GAIN UP TO 100SQM IN EACH FLOOR. THIS MOVE CAN ONLY HAPPEN ON HIGHER FLOORS DUE TO THE STRICT SETBACK RULES ON THE SITE. THE LOWER THREE FLOORS ARE THEN EXPANDED ON ALL POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS TO ALLOW FOR THE COMMERCIAL PROGRAM TO BE PROPERLY ALLOCATED. THIS GIVES THE WHOLE VOLUME THE APPEARANCE OF A FLOATING MASS INTERSECTING BOTH TOWERS, AND CREATES A VIBRANT SHOPPING ATMOSPHERE FROM THE GROUND FLOOR UP TO THE THIRD FLOOR.

IN ORDER TO DEVELOP AN EFFICIENT PROJECT CONSISTING OF TWO TOWERS WITH A COMMERCIAL PODIUM, SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO THE CURRENT SETBACK REGULATIONS ON SITE HAD TO BE MADE. THIS ALLOWS THE DESIGN TO OFFER NEW SPACES WHICH ARE MUCH MORE SUITABLE FOR SUCH A LARGE PROJECT.

THE PROGRAM IS DISTRIBUTED CLEARLY INTO OFFICE AREAS AND COMMER CIAL AREAS. THE COMMERCIAL AREAS START ON BASEMENT LEVEL B1 AND GO UP TO LEVEL L03, WHICH CONTAINS MOSTLY RESTAURANTS AND ENTER TAINMENT. FROM L04 ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP, EACH TOWER IS OCCUPIED BY OFFICE SPACE.

THE PROJECT IS LOCATED IN THE SHANXI CAPITAL CITY OF TAIYUAN. THE SITE IS STRATEGICALLY POSITIONED ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE FEHNE RIVER, ON THE CORNER OF FUDONG STREET AND LIUXIANG ALLEY.
