creative website design, top rankings... Whether you’re looking for a new website, want your current site to work on mobile tech or you want to rank better and earn more from your website, we’re the experts who can help.

Sir Don Bradman

Bring the whole team to The Dentistry Show 2015 Working effectively in a team is essential for the provision of successful dentistry – as Sir Don Bradman said: “Talent wins games, but team work and intelligence wins championships”. This quote about cricket is also appropriate to dentistry, where a team approach promotes continuity of care that is comprehensive, convenient, cost effective and efficient1.

a session entitled: “The Orthodontic-Restorative Interface: Simplifying Diagnosis & Communication to Make Teamwork Easier”.

Back for another year is the highly popular Aesthetic Dentist Conference. Kicking off proceedings on Friday 17th of April will be Conference Chair, Dr Chris Orr and Co-Owner of Wired Orthodontics, Dr Ian Hutchinson.

Chris and Ian’s lecture is designed to help you take on these cases – establishing a diagnosis and from this creating a joint orthorestorative treatment plan in the knowledge that you, your team and your patients will all be smiling at the end!

This will not be Dr Hutchinson’s first visit to The Dentistry Show:

A myriad of other learning opportunities is available for delegates at The Dentistry Show 2015, with conference programmes dedicated to each field and additional theatres offering insight into each dental discipline. Hours of verifiable CPD, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and business skills sessions will also be on offer, plus delegates have the chance to attend the prestigious Dental Awards 2015, the premier awards event of the dental calendar.

Dr Orr’s and Dr Hutchinson’s joint lecture will focus on the combination of orthodontic and restorative treatments in

w. www.dental-design.co.uk

“We’ve all been there with busy surgeries and full days – we are happy enough with the aesthetic outcomes we achieve and we leave it at that. But there’s always those aesthetic cases that could be really special. A combination of orthodontic and restorative treatments planned with clear goals from the outset would achieve a fantastic result with a reduced biological cost, but is it really worth the effort? “Sometimes the planning can be complicated and convoluted. However much you might be tempted to embark on such a collaborative venture, the knowledge of likely pitfalls might put you off before you begin. You think you can handle your side of things, but getting exactly what you want from other team members requires time and energy you can’t always spare.”

“I’ve also given a couple of talks in the past and found it a very rewarding experience. It’s surprising how much you learn even behind the rostrum! The team behind The Dentistry Show recognise the need to evolve the event but also keep it’s important core elements that make sure we all keep coming back.”

01202 677 277

Commenting on his lecture, Dr Hutchinson says:

To this end, The Dentistry Show Dr Ian Hutchinson 2015 promises to be a fantastic event for the entire dental team. With a world-class line up of professional speakers covering an extensive range of topics, there is truly something for everyone.

“In recent years I’ve run a stand at The Dentistry Show with Wired Orthodontics which I co-own with Sue Bessant. We provide one-to-one lab services and training to general dentists working in cosmetic orthodontics and consider it the premier event in our calendar. The Show is always well attended and we know delegates tend to be top professionals who recognise the value in our business, so it’s the best place to meet clients new and old.

Learn from the best at The Dentistry Show 2015 It is often said that in order to be the best, you have to learn from the best. Aspiring to follow in the footsteps of someone you admire or respect within the industry can introduce you to new ideas that have a huge impact on the future of your career. Similarly, learning from those at the forefront of a field will ensure your knowledge and skills keep pace with the very latest advancements, raising the bar of the dentistry you deliver. Dr John Kanca III is one of the true pioneers in adhesive dentistry, having been instrumental in the validation of acid etching dentin and in establishing the modern concepts of wet bonding and pulse activation. A Fellow of the Academies of General Dentistry, Dental Materials and the American Academy of Estethic Dentistry, as well as the founder of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr Kanca has become a globally renowned authority in this field. Dr Kanca will be among the highlights of the Aesthetic Dentist Conference at The Dentistry Show 2015. He will be discussing “Successful Adhesive Dentistry: Achieving Greater Success Through Understanding Your Materials”, sharing his extensive knowledge and

expertise with delegates. He says:

operative discomfort.

“My presentation will be an overview of adhesive dentistry in 2015 and how it is used in day to day clinical practice. We will discuss how to place Class II restorations with proper contacts while avoiding sensitivity issues, management of pulp exposures, near exposures and when to leave caries-affected dentin alone.

“I am looking forward to my visit and sharing my knowledge with all.”

“The session will also address the different presentations of sensitivity and their differential diagnosis and management. We will explore the indications and techniques for today’s ceramic restorations, the exact amount of wetness for wet bonding (and how to get to it) and finally, light-curing techniques that speed the restorative process by gentle activation. “Delegates attending the session will gain an array of practical hints and tips to enhance their adhesive dentistry, both regarding techniques and material selection. They will leave with the knowledge needed to provide their patients with reliable and durable restorations free of post-

Dr Kanca will also run a hands-on workshop to give delegates further insight into the latest products, materials and techniques in the market. Further helping you raise the standard of your aesthetic dentistry will be Dr’s Walter Devoto, Luca Dalloca, Zaki Kanaan, Chris Orr, Sanjay Sethi, Ian Hutchinson, Philip Ower, Finlay Sutton and Rowan Garstang. Topics covered will include everything from the orthodontic-restorative interface to composites, periodontal plastic surgery and whitening techniques. And there will be plenty more opportunities to gain insight into all dental disciplines with the brand new EndoLounge and Facial Aesthetics Theatre, as well as the previously popular PerioLounge, STO Lounge and ADI Implant Theatre. Hours of verifiable and general CPD will also be available throughout the two-day event, ensuring something for every member of the dental team.

Highlighting an emerging problem

Bridge2Aid to host Village Fete at The Dentistry Show 2015

Morag Powell looks at peri-implantitis ahead of her session at The Dentistry Show

Bridge2Aid will host a ‘Village Fete’ at this year’s Dentistry Show, with traditional games such as ‘test your strength’ strongman and ‘hook a duck’, as well as a Willy Wonka ice-cream stand.

Peri-implantitis is a relatively new disease that has gradually emerged over the last couple of decades . It continues to increase year on year and a recent systematic review suggests that 20% of implant patients present with peri-implant diseases in the 5-10 years after placement .

Morag Powell

To highlight and raise awareness of the increasing problem of peri-implantitis, The Dentistry Show is proud to announce a lecture by Morag Powel – leading Dental Hygienist and Therapist – at the Hygienist & Therapist Symposium.

Morag will discuss the potential causes, symptoms and management of this infectious disease. Giving delegates the chance to enhance their knowledge and gain a better understanding to help them diagnose and manage periimplantitis in the practice. The lecture will increase the confidence of delegates in recognising and diagnosing peri-implant diseases and will also look at iatrogenic factors that may play a part in the disease process. The talk will cover a review of the current guidelines within the UK on the management of peri-implant diseases and

look at when and how often implants should be probed and monitored for peri-implant diseases. With litigation on the increase for both periodontal and implant cases, it is of the upmost importance that the dental hygienists and therapists are aware of the current guidelines that are in place for both the monitoring of implant diseases in practice and the management of peri-implant diseases.

PERI-IMPLANT DISEASES Peri-implant mucositis has similar characteristics to gingivitis and has been identified as a reversible inflammatory lesion affecting the soft tissue around the implant, but not affecting the surrounding bone. Peri-implantitis on the other hand, is an inflammatory condition of the peri-implant tissues, it is marked by bacterial infection and the gradual loss of the jaw bone supporting the implant. It is not yet clear whether the infection causes the bone to recede, or the bone loss exposes the area to bacteria. A proper and early diagnosis of peri-implantitis is essential and dental hygienists and therapists can play an imperative role in identifying the early signs of the condition. These will be discussed in more detail during the lecture, but can include bleeding from the inflammation, and/or suppuration upon gentle probing. The marginal tissue may also be swollen or red, however pain is often not recorded and these characteristics are not always clearly visible.

The typical bone defect is crater-like and runs all the way round the implant, but as perfect osseointegration is maintained apically to the defect, bone destruction can progress without any notable signs of implant mobility. Movement therefore indicates complete loss of osseointegration and thorough failure. The cause of peri-implantitis can vary, however excess dental cement around the implant restoration has been positively associated with the condition. A recent study showed that excess cement acts as a foreign body, which gave rise to the bacterial infection in 81% of 39 cases and once removed, the clinical signs of the disease disappeared in 74%2. Being aware of the impact of excess cement around the implant can help dental hygienists and therapists, in particular, to identify patients at risk of periimplantitis and ensure they get the treatment they require. According to the latest Adult Dental Health Survey around half-amillion adults in Britain have at least one dental implant, therefore this lecture on the potential causes, symptoms and management of peri-implant diseases is a must for all dental professionals. Join Morag and other world-class speakers at the forthcoming Dentistry Show that is set to be the best show yet. Beyond the fantastic Hygienists & Therapists Symposium, there will be many more learning opportunities available throughout additional theatres such as the new EndoLounge presented in association with the British Endodontic Society, BSP PerioLounge, Facial Aesthetics Theatre and CORE CPD Conference, ensuring something for everyone.

Smile and the world smiles with you The Dentistry Show 2015 is set to be a phenomenal event for the whole dental team. This two-day, action-packed event will take place on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th April at the NEC in Birmingham. With inspiring lectures, workshops and networking opportunities there is truly something for everyone. This will present the perfect opportunity to find out more about what Bridge2Aid does and how you can get involved while having fun. Shaenna Loughnane, UK Manager at Bridge2Aid, says: “We are really looking forward to our Village Fete at The Dentistry Show, as they’ve very kindly donated the space to us. We’ve always found the event to be a great time to meet existing supporters as well as new potential supporters, in a fun and relaxed environment.” Bringing the fun back into dentistry while also offering two days of free education with world-class speakers, hands-on workshops and hours of CPD, The Dentistry Show 2015 is one dental event not to be missed. If you haven’t registered yet, make sure you and your whole team register for your free delegate passes today, and don’t miss out! www.thedentistryshow.co.uk/newspaper

The Dentistry Show is proud to announce that the British Dental Health Foundation will be exhibiting again this year. Having grown impressive momentum and become the UK’s largest and longest-running oral health campaign, the British Dental Health Foundation’s National Smile Month has seen great success once again this year. With the ultimate aim of improving the UK’s dental health, the campaign promotes three key messages to the general public: ■ Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste ■ Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks ■ Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend. While raising awareness of important health issues and the need for good oral health, the campaign also strives to increase access to dental care for people across the UK. All dental and health professionals, schools, pharmacies, colleges and workplaces are

encouraged to get in involved to help educate and engage local communities, communicating positive messages about oral health while having fun.

2014 – THE NUMBERS

In its 38th year, the 2014 campaign was supported by 3,055 organisations and sponsored by nine corporates, with 1,785 oral health promotion activities and events held in the UK. The 150,000 trademark smileys circulating the country lead to 892 ‘smiley selfies’ this year, helping to spread the word on social media sites and other online platforms. Other forms of advertising such as posters were also featured throughout the campaign, with a reported 6,928 seen in waiting rooms around the UK. National Smile Month also teamed up with fellow charity Bridge2Aid this year, to support their first ever ‘Smile in pink for Bridge2Aid’. Professionals were asked to wear something pink in an effort to raise awareness of the lack of simple pain relief available for less fortunate communities around the world. Amanda Oakey, Director of Educational Resources for the Foundation and for National Smile Month, has been delighted with the success of this year’s campaign: “This positive oral health campaign has again been hugely successful, due to the hard work of The British Dental Health Foundation and its supporters, using this campaign and it’s materials to improve the oral health of the public. “The campaign continues to grow, building on previous

successes. The number of organisations getting involved each year, along with the increase in social media activity is really making a difference. The campaign provides a stage from which dental professionals can deliver important oral health education messages, using the ‘Smiley’ graphic and educational products provided. “Mouth Cancer Action Month is another oral health campaign coordinated by the Foundation and is performing better than ever this year, partly due to the popularity of the #bluelipselfie and the social media campaign that this has fuelled. Getting the messages of risk factors and what to look for is so important in saving lives – ‘if in doubt, get checked out’. “The British Dental Health Foundation has exhibited at The Dentistry Show since its inception and has always found this event well attended with very enthusiastic delegates. The conversations we have with the dental professionals that visit are always passionate and it is a great platform against which to create an interest in both our campaigns and our charitable work and activities.” As dental professionals, it is not only our passion to improve the country’s oral health, but also our responsibility. By showing our support and enthusiasm for innovative campaigns such as National Smile Month, we can make a difference to the quality of life of thousands of people across the UK. Time and money are precious commodities The modern dental industry can be a demanding place to work. As the demands continue to increase, time and money become ever-more precious commodities for all members of the dental team, and in particular dental nurses. There are always several different things to think about from patient treatment to record keeping, regulation compliance and decontamination protocols, and these all require care to complete diligently. Patients themselves are becoming more demanding too, with raised awareness of treatments and higher expectations for the end results. The aging population puts further stress on dental services through the requirement of more specialist attention, and this can often lead to longer treatment times and increased paperwork. In addition, dental technologies are constantly evolving and in order to deliver efficient and high quality treatment and care, it is crucial to remain abreast of the latest advancements. Any new equipment or technological upgrades introduced to the practice require proper training to ensure they are fully optimised by all staff, and it can take time to become accustomed to a different way of working.

enhanced teamwork and successful career progression. Hours of verifiable and general CPD will be available throughout the Forum, enabling you to top up your personal records and really make the most of your time at the event. The separate CORE CPD Theatre will provide further opportunities to gain verifiable CPD, covering all core subjects such as medical emergencies, radiation and infection control. For any dental nurses looking to gain or advance skills in the specialist disciplines, additional theatre located on the trade floor will offer the perfect opportunity to do so. The popular BSP PerioLounge will be returning from previous years, as will the Short-Term-Orthodontic Lounge, and brand new features such as the Facial Aesthetics Theatre and EndoLounge delivered in conjunction with the British Society of Endodontics, will provide the perfect platform from which to expand your skill set. World-class professionals at the forefront of their respective fields will host each programme, so you’ll have the chance to meet and learn from some of the best in the business.

With all of this is going on, it can be difficult to allocate time for CPD. While a compulsory element of your continued registration and ability to work, you need to seek quality education that doesn’t take too much time away from practice. Similarly, the cost of training courses will influence which ones you are able to attend as well. Whether expenses are covered by your practice or you are paying for postgraduate education from your own pocket, the financial aspect can certainly present a challenge to overcome. The Dentistry Show has been designed with these such restrictions in mind. Now one of the major dental events of the year, it is completely free of charge and offers an array of lectures, live demonstrations and hands-on workshops of outstanding quality. Held on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th April, you’ll also lose little time in practice, for a truly efficient educational experience. National Dental Nursing Conference presents a two-day lecture programme tailored specifically to meet the needs of modern dental nurses. Designed in association with the British Association of Dental Nursing (BADN), this conference stream will bring you up to date with the very latest regulations, protocols and ideas relevant to you. An array of professionals at the forefront of the field will explore a variety of topics to not only help you develop your clinical knowledge and skills, but also give you practical tips and advice for

To ensure you really enjoy your time at the event, The Dentistry Show offers fantastic networking opportunities throughout the trade floor, where you’ll also find amazing deals on innovative products and materials. The 2015 Show will even host the prestigious Dental Awards for the first time, so you and your whole team can enjoy an evening of entertainment while celebrating the achievements of individuals and groups across the profession. So if you are looking for a cost- and time-efficient way to develop your skills and seek new and exciting products at a great price, The Dentistry Show is a must-attend event for 2015. Delegate passes are completely free and available when you register online, so book your place today! www.thedentistryshow.co.uk/newspaper

CONFERENCE PROGRAMME All about implants Hands-on Workshops Exclusive hands-on implant educator at The Dentistry Show 2015 Dental professionals have all experienced the growing interest in dental implants over the last decade or so, and can appreciate the difference that treatment makes to patients’ lives. As the popularity and technology surrounding implantology move forward, so the importance of ensuring first-rate education and training in this field also increases.

Delegates who attend the hands-on workshops will also collect 1.5 hours of verifiable CPD and will have the opportunity to explore the many ways to further develop a career in dental implantology through the training and education opportunities available at ICEi.

The Implant Centres of Excellence Institute (ICEi) promotes a whole team approach to education and the development of clinical standards. Founded by some of the UK’s most experienced clinicians and educators, it offers a wealth of training expertise for the whole dental profession. This year it has teamed up with The Dentistry Show as the exclusive handson implant educator for the event. Dr Simon Wright is one of the Directors at ICEi, and here he explains how this collaboration came about: “As The Dentistry Show is tailored toward the entire dental team, delivering a wide range of products and services, it made sense for us to work together. For ICEi, the event aligns with our vision of enhancing professional development opportunities in implant dentistry across the whole industry.”

Sweden and Martina Implants (UK) and ICEi provide academic and clinical training in dental implantology that ranges from restorative training for referring dentists (iRestore) to accredited university MSc courses. Get informed and be prepared for the challenges ahead Niki Boersma at The Dentistry Show 2015 For practice managers, those aspiring to take on the role, or anyone just wanting to increase their understanding of how the practice operates, the Practice Management Today session at The Dentistry Show 2015 is the place for you.

which we live. The presentation will also cover the need to effectively market your practice in order to increase patient numbers. “Understanding all of these issues is essential for practice managers today, so that strategies can be put into place ensuring the practice succeeds in the competitive dental sector.

Niki Boersma is the President of the Association of Dental Administrators and Managers (ADAM) and practice manager at The Smile Rooms in Malton. She will be running the session within the Dental Business Theatre with Sarah Buxton of LCF Law and Tracy Stuart of NBS Training. Niki commented:

Niki Boersma

“The team at ADAM is very much looking forward to The Dentistry Show 2015. It is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues in the profession, to update your knowledge and gain valuable CPD, and hopefully return to the day job refreshed and reenergised for the challenges ahead.” Commenting on the Practice Management Today panel session, Niki gives a taster of what delegates can expect: “We will be discussing the role of the modern practice manager and the many challenges they face, including the ever-rising volume of regulation and CQC inspections, as well as the increasingly litigious society in

Ben Flewett, Managing Director at Software of Excellence, sheds light on why understanding your business must be a top priority for dentists. “The change in the dental landscape over the last 5 years has caused dentists to consider some of the fundamental aspects of what makes their business tick. Over the last 6 years we have conducted extensive research using data from over 1500 practices, and through our ‘Thrive’ programme. This research has given us a unique perspective on what makes a practice run most effectively. We have now crystallised our knowledge and identified a series of the key success factors, which have proven to contribute significantly and consistently to increased practice revenue. Utilisation of time, treatment blend, recalls and reactivation and finally new patient acquisition, are the four elements which have most impact. We know that if each of these components can be individually optimised, the result in terms of practice profitability will be substantial. Our aim is to help dentists understand what the best performing practices have achieved in each of these areas so they can benchmark their own practice, set targets for their team and to replicate these crucial practices. We are experiencing a growing appetite for business knowledge amongst dental professionals. Those who are embracing the concept understand that their practice

management system holds a wealth of useful data about their practice and are benefiting from its application. Software of Excellence is at the forefront of developing tools which can harness this data, with obvious benefits for the practice, and a consequential impact on patient care. Our advice on Best Practice is available from many different sources. Downloadable Whitepapers are available on our website, whilst the THRIVE programme provides dedicated, bespoke consultancy which ensures individual practices can optimise their personal performance. A series of Business Insight Seminars and individual presentations such as those taking place at The Dentistry Show are available throughout 2015, we hope these events will give dentists a taste of what it is possible to achieve in their practice.”

Dental Supplies Magazine, all the latest product reviews and industry news

“Hopefully those who attend will leave better informed and better prepared to face these many challenges - and with a realisation that they are not alone. There are many other practice managers facing the same challenges and, through ADAM, they can share their views and occasional frustrations, while also seeking guidance and direction from their peers.” Alongside this informative lecture, The Dentistry Show will offer a range of other exciting learning opportunities available throughout additional theatres, including the new Endolounge, presented in association with the British Endodontic Society, the BSP PerioLounge, Facial Aesthetics Theatre and CORE CPD Conference, ensuring something for every member of the dental team.

Inspire your dental team and boost your practice Everything under one roof at The Dentistry Show 2015 The business of dentistry can often seem quite complicated, taking precious time away from what you would rather be doing – treating patients. Despite this, it is of course an essential aspect of a successful practice, and you need a finger on the pulse of the latest strategies in everything from employment to marketing, finances and performance measurement. As with most things in the modern world, you always need new ideas to help boost your strategies and maintain appeal for both existing and potential patients. While different team members will be able to help a great deal with this, sometimes you need to inject innovative ideas from outside the practice. The good news is that The Dentistry Show 2015 will bring you the Dental Business Theatre, which promises to be packed full of the latest advice and current thinking when it comes to helping you run your practice. Designed for the entire dental team, firstclass education and networking opportunities will be available throughout the dynamic two-day event, ensuring you have access to everything you could need.

HR LAWS

When it comes to hiring and firing, do you know where you stand in terms of the law? This can be a minefield unless you are up to date on all the relevant regulations but it can be a tricky and timely topic to research unless you really know what you’re looking for. Sarah Buxton will be among the speaker line-up in the Dental Business Theatre to shed some light on the topic. Sarah is an associate lawyer at LCF Law, specialising in employment and HR issues within the dental industry. Sarah will be discussing ‘Getting to Grips With Dental Employment and HR law’, where she will explore the common problems that arise in the workplace, including sickness absence, lateness, flexible working and parental leave. With the law changing in some of these areas it is important that you remain abreast of the latest legislation and know what your staff are entitled to and where you stand as an employer.

EVERY ASPECT OF BUSINESS IS COVERED

The ever-popular Sheila Scott will be charing and opening the Dental Business Theatre, also addressing delegates with a session entitled ‘Health Focused Customer Care – The Healthy Practice’. Sheila is a straight-talking dental business coach with 20 years of experience behind her, so she is perfectly placed to offer advice and guidance on the areas where you need it most. She believes that patient-centred practices are the most effective and profitable and her workshops at The Dentistry Show 2015 will outline exactly how you can adapt your patient approach as a team.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TODAY, IN ASSOCIATION WITH ADAM

Also on the Saturday, an expert panel will discuss ‘Practice Management Today’. Brought to you by business coach Sheila Scott, associate lawyer Sarah Buxton, dental practice development specialist Tracy Stuart and ADAM president Niki Boersma, they will share their variety of skills and expertise to help lead a well-rounded debate. As a practice manager or owner, you need to have a finger on the pulse of the everchanging landscape of dental administration and team management, and with a panel so widely specialised, you will be able to seek answers and solutions to any queries or concerns you are currently facing.

ONLINE MARKETING

FINANCE

Aside from building an effective team and meeting employment laws, managing your practice finances is another important aspect integral to your success. Ray Cox, Managing Director of Medifinance, will be emphasising the importance of knowledge in this field for the sustainability of your dental business. He’ll offer practical tips on how to secure the necessary financial support from the banks, meeting the ever-evolving demands of the dental industry. After all, no matter how skilled you and your team are and how outstanding a service you provide, your practice can still suffer if the finances aren’t in order.

GROW YOUR PRACTICE – DATA

With so many strategies in the business arena, speakers of the highest calibre will share their experiences of what works and what doesn’t, giving you fresh perspectives and clarity on processes and protocols to introduce into your practice. From optimising the way your team works to getting the best out of your IT systems and everything in between, you will find what you and your team need to keep your practice fighting fit.

online presence and help not only attract more patients to your practice, but also retain the patient-base you currently serve.

The Dentistry Show 2015 also presents sessions entitled ‘Software of Excellence’, ‘JFH Law’, ‘Click Convert Sell’ and many more within the Dental Business Theatre. These are all designed to help keep you at the forefront of your profession, and none more so than Vanessa Ewell’s talk: ‘30-year old consumer seeks a local dentist “click here”’. This inspirational talk by Vanessa – the Director of Internet Dental Marketing – will provide you with an array of ideas to help you get the most out of your website. So if your online marketing is suffering and you would like to understand how to entice consumers’ online attention, this session is a must.

You will also be able to benefit from the expertise of Jane Guinn, Managing Director of Carestream Dental Ltd. Jane will speak about utilizing practice data to grow and future proof your business. Discover more about the brand new CS R4+ practice management software from Carestream featuring Springboard. This innovative software provides real-time data, enabling all practices to monitor performance with greater accuracy and measure success against key performance indicators (KPIs). With a ‘can see, can do’ ethos, it allows you to monitor and analyse live practice data in order to assess performance in line with those targets. Take advantage of this fantastic talk to learn about the benefits of live data and how easy it is to integrate it into your practice, helping you to grow and develop your business.

In todays’ technology-driven industry, utilizing innovative products and equipment can make a huge difference to the efficiency and quality of services you provide patients. The Launchpad UK initiative will provide the perfect platform from which to source the very latest products, materials and technologies in the UK market, with globally leading manufacturers and suppliers demonstrating the newest innovations available. You’ll be able to speak to industry experts to find the right equipment for your practice, who’ll be on hand to provide all the information and advice you need, with many providing first-chance, hands-on experiences that will ensure your practice stays ahead of the game. You’ll even receive information and updates in the weeks leading up to the Show, so you can plan ahead and make the very most of your time at the event.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Aside from the Dental Business Theatre, The Dentistry Show will host an array of additional learning opportunities with lecture programmes dedicated to each area of the profession. Dentists, dental hygienists and therapists, nurses and practice managers will have access to various sessions considering topics relevant to them, with hours of verifiable CPD available throughout. The new Facial Aesthetics Theatre and the EndoLounge, provided in association with the British Endodontic Society, will also join previously popular features like the BSP PerioLounge, Short-term-Orthodontic Lounge and various hands-on workshops, ensuring your whole team remains at the forefront of clinical procedures in dentistry.

MARKETING

The support on offer at the Dental Business Theatre doesn’t end there though. The Dentistry Show 2015 has all bases covered and even brings you essential information on online marketing through two different sessions. On the Friday, Nigel Reece, founder of the marketing agency Dental Design, will explain why search engine optimisation (SEO) and your ranking on Google are so important to you and your business. Nigel will present his ‘Six Simple Steps to Get to the Top of Google’ through a lunch and learn session. On the Saturday, Krishan Joshi will bring you ‘Website/Google/Facebook Marketing: Top 5 Critical Points to Improve your Website Enquiries’. Krishan is the CEO at Dental Focus and is a passionate and experienced speaker with a wealth of advice to help you to further harness the power of internet and social media marketing. The advice from both Nigel and Krishan will provide you with the tools needed to create a successful

BUYING OR SELLING

Likewise, if you are looking to buy your first practice or considering selling, then come along to ‘Market Update – Buying or Selling a Dental Practice’ presented by the knowledgeable and experienced Lis Hughes and David Brewer, Managing Directors at Frank Taylor & Associates. The session will offer invaluable tips and advice on a number of topics ranging from understanding what’s involved in a valuation, the buying process, update on the current market, securing finance to top tips on selling for the best price and implementing an exit strategy ready for when you want to sell – making this is a seminar not to be missed.

Running a dental practice isn’t just the responsibility of the person who owns the establishment, however; rather this responsibility is shared among the whole team. Tactical allocation of specific tasks and procedures can help to alleviate the stress on everyone, all the while streamlining the daily practices for a smooth and efficient business. Whether ensuring infection control protocols are implemented routinely, organising staff rotas and patient appointment schedules, or planning and delivering the most effective clinical treatment – every aspect of the business relies on teamwork and close collaboration for optimum outcomes. What’s more, by involving the whole team with the day-to-day running of the business, appreciation for their skills is more obvious and they become more engaged in the business itself. Why not bring the entire dental team to The Dentistry Show 2015 and take advantage of the multitude of interesting activities available. Register at www.thedentistryshow.co.uk/newspaper

DERMAPEN™ Naturastudios are proud to introduce the Dermapen Medical skin needling device. Dermapen™ is the original and best skin needling device that promotes scar less healing and natural collagen reproduction, similar to fractional laser treatments, IPL, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels, but without the side effects and downtime. Dermapen™ treatment is safer and more effective in piercing the skin than traditional skin needling rollers, because of its unique vertical needling technology. Dermapen™ has a superior effect on collagen and elastin rejuvenation as it allows active ingredients to be supplied to the deeper layers of the skin. Dermapen™’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow the needles to pierce the skin’s layers at 90 degrees and increase the effectiveness of treatments, reduces pain ad patient downtime. The skin needling treatment can effectively treat hard-to-reach places (e.g. around the eyes, nose, and lips).

COSMETIC INSURE Cosmetic Insure is a market leading provider of insurance products and services specifically designed for Aesthetic Practitioners. Managing Director, Janine Revill ACII, believed that for too long there was a genuine lack of choice for Aesthetic Practitioners when purchasing insurance products and services. This lack of choice had stifled innovation and competition. Working together with market leading insurers with a wealth of knowledge of the Aesthetics market, Janine launched Cosmetic Insure to bring about a real choice and new ideas. This was demonstrated with a market first when Cosmetic Insure launched the first ‘Quote & Buy’ website for Aesthetic Practitioners to purchase their insurance at any time of the day, together with a Free Medico-Legal helpline and a plethora of Risk Management advice on our ‘Members Only’ website. Three years on and our team and client base is growing rapidly. This has been fuelled by excellent market reviews and feedback from our customers.

Get on the inside track with NASDAL Dentists visiting the Dentistry Show are likely to have some sort of financial or legal issue that they need help with. Are you making enough profit to invest in new kit? Are you thinking of buying or selling a dental practice? Or perhaps incorporation is an issue for you?

What’s Your IQ?

Business IQ is a new offering, which combines services from Henry Schein Dental, Software of Excellence and some expert third party organisations, into a single brand. Headed up by Andy Sloan, Business IQ is being launched to the dental market at The Dentistry Show.

“Henry Schein’s vision is to improve the health of dental practices so that they can concentrate on improving the health of their patients – an ethos that actually fits perfectly with our core services of merchandising, equipment, technology, and the many other things we have always done.” Business IQ fits into this vision perfectly, using a very simple premise - to assist practices in improving their performance by helping them either increase their profits, or reduce their costs. To make this more manageable, we have broken Business IQ into three distinct areas: consult, learn and grow, each of which will be introduced by our local account managers and delivered by a select group of internal and external experts.

Whatever your concern, you will find you are talking to advisors with extensive knowledge and experience of the dental profession. Visit the stand G32 to meet members of the National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL).

‘Consult’ is about us helping the practice benchmark itself against averages in the dental profession for turnover, appointment bookings, recall effectiveness etc. Using this information, the principal can make informed decisions about the future, be that expansion, refurbishment or even retirement. Our consultants can help develop a strategy and give advice on where to access appropriate practical help, for example if a practice wants to offer treatment financing for patients with 0% interest, or requires advice on capital expenditure or tax efficiency.

AT THE DENTISTRY SHOW IN 2015, THE FOLLOWING NASDAL MEMBERS WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE: ACCOUNTANTS: ■ ■ ■ ■

perfect for those practices wanting to promote their services using video content. The overall aim of ‘Grow’ is to attract more patients and highlight the elective treatments available in the practice.

Henry Schein Dental already provides local education throughout the country and ‘Learn’ incorporates the Henry Schein Dental Education Suite and the Academy of Excellence from Software of Excellence. Business IQ has also partnered with Laura Horton to provide practice management courses, and Dentinal Tubules is providing some heavily discounted practice education for Henry Schein customers.

Our aim is that Business IQ will encourage a shift in thinking and help practice owners and managers understand the value of improving their internal performance. Using the tools available from Business IQ, dentists will be able to implement strategies that will have a significant impact on the revenue of their business.

It is often said that a business that is not growing is going backwards, making ‘grow’ a natural addition to the Business IQ portfolio. ‘Grow’ covers all manner of practical areas, from reduced rates on recruitment or disposing of clinical waste, to implementing EXACT from Software of Excellence. We have teamed up with Milkshake Dental Marketing to provide practice marketing literature, websites and even advice on how to run social media campaigns. A partnership with JSP Media is

The second spoke in the Business IQ wheel is ‘Learn’ and we use this to try and increase the skillset of the whole practice team so that each member can perform better, with the ultimate aim of increasing efficiency and profitability.

Anne-Marie Jones, Healthcare Director at The Royal Bank of Scotland welcomes you to visit Stand E65 Demand in the dental sector is high with patients becoming more aware of the need for regular dental care as well as aesthetic treatments, along with the rise in private dental practices. This leads to increased turnover and offers a great opportunity for dental operators to maximise this by setting up their own dental practice or growing an existing one. Whatever your business size and requirements, approaching the bank to support your plans can be a little daunting. However, despite the perceived difficulties in obtaining funding, many organisations are still keen to lend to the dental sector. At The Royal Bank of Scotland we encourage those with a good business plan, supported by a strong management team that is addressing the needs of the market to come talk to us. Our Relationship Team at the

show are experienced in helping Associates plan to purchase their first practice and help Practitioners understand how to ‘Prepare to Practice’. Visit our stand for your copy of our First Time Buyers Guide. In a period of rising goodwill values and increases in staff and practice costs we have experienced some consolidation within the sector leading to increased corporate activity and the opportunity for an emergence of competing mini corporates. If you are

an established practitioner looking to purchase further practices, there are options available to you. It is important to ensure that your banking matches the needs of your practice. We can help create a bespoke solution to meet a variety of support scenarios including freehold purchases, specialist equipment, practice and practitioner partnerships and goodwill purchases. For an informal chat on your needs please come and talk to us.

You can find us on stand E65 where our team of Relationship Managers will be keen to discuss your requirements and understand your business needs.

A mobile app for your dental practice for the price of an iPhone I read a statistic in the press the other day that 70% of all adults in the UK now own a smart phone, which is staggering when you think that the iPhone was introduced in June 2007. Making this one of the fastest growing technologies every.

web browsing and apps.

The smart phone has just about finished off sat nav., maps, Nokia and Ericson, diaries, calendars, watches, even torches because we can now do all this stuff on our mobile device. Interestingly making phone calls is now number five of things that people use their mobile device for, behind, email, texting,

But the biggest single change we have seen is the rise and rise of the mobile app, there is now an app for just about anything and everything you want to do whether it be ordering taxis, take away food, maps, football, the list goes on and on. Which brings me to the thrust of this article and that is, what can a mobile app do to increase business in your practice? The answer is a huge amount, in fact it could quite simply be the best thing you can deploy to increase the number of patients you see and the amount they spend. I don’t have to tell any of you how important mobile apps have become to all of us, but quite literally having an app can make a huge difference to the fortunes of your practice. So you’re probably thinking that this must cost a fortune, the answer is that it costs about the same as a new iPhone. It’s just £200 + VAT to build the app for you, install your dashboard, upload to the Apple and Android app stores and train you and then just £50 + VAT per month from then on. Your patients get the app for free.

HERE’S WHAT A MOBILE APP CAN DO FOR YOU:1. It raises your profile above that of your competitors. To your patients and prospective new patients you are leading edge and your competitors are not. 2. Other than word of mouth, it is the best referral tool you can have to generate new patients. One click and patients can share your details with a recommendation to all their friends on Facebook, Twitter, email and text. They are automatically rewarded, as is the person who has been referred 3. It has an inbuilt loyalty scheme. All your patients do is scan a code when they come into the practice to benefit from the scheme 4. You can push messages out to everyone who has the app, just like a text message, increasing the uptake of your offers 5. Patients can request an appointment directly from the app with a preferred time and date, which you can either immediately approve or call them back with an alternative. 6. All your practice information is available in one place including direct links to your website, Facebook, Twitter, email etc. 7. Patients can call your practice with one click. 8. It even has sat-nav directions straight to your practice. 9. It galleries of your staff and the treatment you can offer. 10. It engenders loyalty with your existing patients.

To find out how you can have an app for your practice, call Dental Marketing Expert on 01767 626 398 or email sales@dentalmarketingexpert.co.uk

From implementing Exact from Software of Excellence to understanding the value of your business, we have a solution for you.

We have partnered with leading tutors to offer a range of education that will improve your business; both clinical and complimentary subjects are covered.

We want your business to be as successful as it can be, that’s why we have solutions to help increase your revenue or reduce your costs.

Offering your patients finance at low and zero rates of interest is a proven way to increase treatment plan take-up – as if by magic. To prove the point, Dental Finance is employing the talents of professional expo magician and member of the Magic Circle, Sebastian Hunt, on its stand F30 at the Dentistry Show on 17 and 18 April at the NEC. By performing a series of magic tricks under the scrutiny of visitors to the Dental Finance stand, Sebastian will demonstrate how offering patient finance is a case of playing your cards right and always producing aces.

Brian Carter, Dental Finance director, says: “Some dentists believe the new process for setting up finance is a trick they’ll never learn. With our free assistance we can help them pull that rabbit out of the hat!” Magician, Sebastian Hunt, will be appearing and disappearing from the Dental Finance stand throughout the two days of the show.
