Cloverdale High School Key Club A Little Bit About Us Cloverdale High School is situated in a rural community in northern California, about 80 miles north of San Francisco, in the middle of what is considered “wine country”. In recent years the community has attracted more and more retirees coming because they are fascinated by the beauty of the surrounding countryside and staying because they enjoy the close community spirit. There are approximately 400 students in the high school. The Cloverdale Kiwanis Club sponsors the high school Key Club.

For 2007-08 We affiliated 33 members for the school year. About 23 of those members were reasonably active. Here are some highlights from the year: This past year was only our second year as a Key Club We had six officers with two members applying to be executive assistants We applied and received school board approval to place Key Club service hours on student transcripts (for anyone with 40 or more hours of service). Ten members received this honor! Eight seniors graduated with a Key Club medallion, having performed at least 15 hours in service during the year. We developed our own website We created our first ever scrapbook, and it went all the way to international competition, winning SECOND PLACE in the Traditional Scrapbook category We donated the most money of any club in our division for the Pediatric Trauma Prevention cause at Fall Rally We earned an Early Bird patch for affiliating by November 1st We earned a UNICEF patch for our efforts in the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program We earned a District Tree patch for turning our Monthly Report Forms in on time We earned a Distinguished Club patch for our over-all program of activities We had a strong bond with our local Kiwanis Club, participating in several projects together. The most notable included: the Kiwanis Crab Dinner, the Key Club Dinner of Talents, the Kiwanis Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast, regular volunteer work at the Cloverdale Food Pantry, a community-wide canned food drive, creating a Citrus Fair exhibit display, and a drive collecting Cell Phones For Soldiers – aiding our soldiers over-seas. We regularly attended Kiwanis meetings

For 2008-09 We have nine officers who have all been through extensive training for their positions, including training at District Convention, the division Officers Training Conference, and training at International Convention. These dedicated members met regularly during the summer months before the start of the school year to set goals and make detailed plans for reaching those goals. Every officer is determined to achieve Distinguished Officer status! Some of the goals for the year include: Participation in each of the Major Emphasis Projects that Key Club International recommends. These are: UNICEF; March of Dimes/March for Babies; Children’s Miracle Network; and Live 2 Learn Participation in the district projects: C.A.R.E. and Pediatric Trauma Prevention Participation in the division project: One Club, One Cause – for which our club has chosen the theme Celebrate Diversity Raising close to $14,000 so that we can send at least twelve members to the District Convention, as well as donate thousands of dollars back to our community Using a formal recruitment plan in an effort to gain more active members.
