CNH I K E Y C L U B Cloverdale High School January 2017 | Children’s Miracle Network Edition | Gabriela Gaona What are Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals? CMN Hospitals are committed to providing the highest quality care to all children and their families, regardless of their ability to pay. CMN Hospitals meet a rigorous set of standards for providing health care to the children and families they serve. CMN Hospitals are leading pediatric care facilities and research institutes. They help kids everywhere and provide life-saving research and care for children dealing with cancer, neo-natal and prematurity issues, heart conditions, Muscular Dystrophy and all of our nationally ranked childhood clinical concerns. Their doctors and staff are specially trained to work with children. Their facilities and policies are geared to help children deal better with the stresses and traumas of their illnesses. Their research motto is: every discovery here, helps children everywhere.
The Cloverdale High School Key Club has made a commitment to work with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a nationally renowned Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, over the months of January, February and March, 2017. Our goal is to fundraise approximately $2000 for the hospital as well as provide other support. The following pages describe what we have already done, and what is still planned.
We challenge EVERY member in the club to participate in at least one of our planned activities! Furthermore, we challenge our Cloverdale Kiwanis and Washington School Builders Club to join in our efforts!
What have we already done? On January 16th, we held a bake sale for CMN outside of Ray’s Food Place. We sold cupcakes, cookies, brownies and See’s chocolate and lollipops. We had a good group of people show up and help by bringing baked goods or staying and helping with the sale.
Thanks to all the hard work we did selling all the delicious treats, we made $315. That’s AMAZING!!
On Friday, January 27th

Shine Day
This is our monthly get-together with the Special Day Class. We’re bringing in computers and pizza and working together to make online cards for the children in the hospital.
Our cards will not be written to specific children, and we’ve been asked to stay away from writing “get well soon” messages. But we can make children feel better, just by letting them know that we care!
Set aside, Friday, February 10th, after school, to do one more session of card-making. We’ll bring the computers into Room 7 and work there. We’re inviting the Builders Club to be there, too. There will be snacks, and a fun time had from 3:30 -5:30 p.m.
More is Happening on Friday………… On Friday, January 27th, we will be holding a Read-A-Thon as a fun way to fundraise for the CMN project. It will be held at Sue Cummins’ house. Here’s the plan: We meet at CHS at 4:30 p.m. o We bring with us something to read/write; snacks for the middle-of-thenight, a non-R rated movie and/or a game, (if we wish), a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow, toiletry items and pjs o We also need to bring $15. This money will be donated to the Children’s Miracle Network project. o We are driven to Sue’s house, which is up on Highway 128 Starting at 5 p.m., we will read or do homework or work on a Key Club project for 2 hours At 7 p.m. we will break for dinner, provided by Sue At around 7:30 we will go back for 2 more hours of reading…. At around 9:30 we will start our fun activities. It’s up to all of us to do what we want…. like play a board game or watch a movie, or just hang-out together If it’s not raining, or too cold, we can have an outdoor campfire with S’Mores and hot chocolate. Anyone who can’t spend the night can get a ride home at around 10 p.m. Some members need to get home early the next morning. We will make that happen. All members will be returned home sometime between 9 and 10 a.m. on Saturday Hope to see you there! It will be boat loads of fun! How to come up with $15… Ask for donations from teachers, relatives, neighbors, etc. Explain the cause and they’ll probably support you. Maybe it will take 3 people giving you $5 donations…. maybe you can find one person to come up with $15! You should give each person who donates one of these thank you gifts
Inside this packet is a thank you card describing the Children’s Miracle Network cause, plus a sweet tart packet and a piece of heart-shaped chocolate candy.
Travel Size Toiletry Drive for Families of Hospitalized Children
During the month of February:
If you or your family shops at CVS Pharmacy, stop by the travel size toiletries section and pick up a couple of items to donate to the cause There will be a barrel near the door into which you can drop what you’ve purchased We will see that the items are shipped to the hospital for the use of families who have a child hospitalized from a sudden emergency
See’s Sucker Bouquets We will have a station set up in front of the school office at lunchtime starting on February 8th and going to February 13th. We will be selling a bouquet of 4 See’s Suckers for $5, with a card that can be delivered to someone during their 5th period class on Valentine’s Day. In addition, there will be other choices for deliveries, like teddy bears, roses, and candy boxes.
We’ll need members to shop for items, be at the tables both during lunch and after school to sell them, of course… purchase items… and deliver them during 5th period on Valentine’s Day
Your club Board challenges you to become involved!
These are just a few of the activities planned for our club’s CMN project Stay tuned for more to come… class competitions on campus, support from local businesses, another Bake Sale on February 17th… We’ll keep you posted. We ask EVERY member to join in this project
