What’s Surfing Dinos? Happy February! This month means more than chocolates and roses because we are two months away from District Convention, (DCON) 2017! This year, DCON will be held in Anaheim, California where YOU will go to Disneyland, plus spend three days with 3,000 Key Clubbers from the California-Nevada-Hawaii (CNH) District! This year, take some time to reflect on your success throughout this term. We have accomplished so much in so little time. I am BEEyond proud of each and every one of you and I hope you continue your journey, whether it is in Key Club, Circle K, Kiwanis, or any other part of the K family. By this time, I hope your club has held club elections. Serving on the executive team for the club you’ll serve has both its benefits and disadvantages. It’s stressful to balance school work, Key Club, and other activities. But, it is a journey which is unforgettable. YOU grow as a leader. YOU grow and begin to feel responsible taking on duties within the club you’ll be serving. If you are interested in running for a position or have any questions, make sure to talk to your home club president or send a message to me. As a region, we have a lot of upcoming events! On February 11th, we will hold a Joint Division Council Meeting (DCM) with Division 08, “Ballers” at Sonoma Valley HS! Don’t forget to bring a $5 gift for a fun Valentine exchange between the two divisions! On another note, please make sure to congratulate our D20/32 Lt. Governor-Elect Annaleigh Nguyen! I know she’ll do amazing things to better serve you! Make sure to congratulate her with a hug or selfie when you see her. I hope to see you all soon! Take care! With Lots of Love, Fatima Aguilar D2032 Lt. Governor

CONGRATULATIONS! -*

Club of Month: *Drum Roll Please* This month’s Cub of the Month goes to Cloverdale for their on-going service during the busy month of December. As a club, they were able to provide 225 hours of community service! They’ve participated in eleven types of service projects and continue to serve as a role model for Divisions 20 and 32. They continue to serve their community and I am proud of the work they’ve been doing!

Member of the Month: The member of the Month goes to Thomas Nguyen from Cardinal Newman. Thomas has been an active member of his home club and he’s attended numerous of Division events; and well represents Newman. He is a diligent individual who shows his love and passion towards service.

!

Officer of the Month: Nathan Sneed is the Officer of the Month from Humboldt home school. This year, it's been a bit rough for Humboldt due to its membership being mostly new. But because of Nathan’s enduring love for service, he kept the club running with the help of his mom, (club Advisor). They’ve held tan effective meeting in January and are planning community service. They have a lot ahead of them and I know they’ll continue to grow and prosper, especially with Nathan as a guide.

Kiwanis Advisor of the Month: Francesca Smith is the Kiwanis Advisor of the Month from Casa Grande! For our December DCM, their Kiwanis club hosted the event! They made sure we had a location, food for our lunch break, and a service project with “Christmas Cheer”.

Faculty Advisor of the Month: The Faculty Advisor of the Month goes to Amy Hendricks from Casa Grande! Mrs. Hendricks took her Saturday morning off to support Casa Grande’s Key Club at the December DCM. She was present during the DCM and service event. She is a role model to other Faculty Advisors on how they should properly assist Key Club.

Club Re Children’s Miracle Network Project By Carmen Garcia | Cloverdale Cloverdale High School has been working in a new project for the Children’s Miracle Network hospital system. This project is being organized by Anahi Ruiz, a new member to the club this year. Some activities we’re doing January through February include: a Bake Sale, and a Read-A-Thon where members bring $15 and read for 4 hours. These we’ve already done, and we’ve fundraised $490 between the two activities. We are pretty excited, because our Bake Sale brought in $315! We held it in front of a local grocery store for 5 hours on a school holiday. The Read-A-Thon raised another $275! We’re also planning a Valentine’s See’s Sucker Bouquet sale, We’ll be doing this both at school, and for the community, with a sales table in front of the grocery store. We’re doing donation boxes in stores, The CMN organization is sending us the boxes to use! In early February, we plan to hold a “Games Tournament” for our Kiwanis family. Everyone who comes, whether they are a Kiwanis member, Key Clubber or Builders Clubber, pays a $5 entry fee. We’re holding it at our Kiwanis Advisor’s home. We’ve got other activities planned, going clear into April. This is a major project for our club, and we’re excited to be doing something so worthwhile. Cloverdale Key Club members are eager to be involved in this project. Not only will these activities help a Children’s Miracle Network hospital, but they give our members the opportunity to bond with each other.

Kiwanis Dinner By Lisa Liff | Montgomery On Friday, December 9th, Montgomery hosted a Holiday Dinner for our local Kiwanis club, six Key Clubbers attended and helped serve food. We set up all the decorations, plates, and silverware. The Kiwanians also bought raffle tickets for certain gift baskets, all the money raised from the gift baskets was donated to the Eliminate Project. The Key Clubbers prepared and served the first course--salad with honey balsamic vinaigrette. Next, was the main course-- roasted chicken thighs and pasta with pesto sauce. This was met by a shower of compliments; the Kiwanis members really enjoyed the food. Next we cleared dishes and served the final course, which were delicious brownies with a diamond etched out with powdered sugar, sharing with the Kiwanians that our club was once again Diamond Distinguished. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the food; we had a great time serving the Kiwanis and talking to them. Afterwards, we all sang carols, a perfect end to a spectacular evening.

Club R Kris Kringle Project and More! ! Jas Aguilar | Sonoma Valley The month of January was filled with post holiday spirit and happiness. Sonoma Valley hosted their biggest event of 2016 which was Kris Kringle activity. Kris Kringle granted 12 families from 5 different elementary schools in Sonoma to be able to afford Christmas and have a swift heart-warming transition into the New Year. The students were allowed to purchase $100 in items from the a community department store. The store opened, before hours, for the families. Over 12 Key Clubbers attended, and they were excited and happy with the outcome. Senior, Dalia Rico “loved helping the kids and seeing the big smiles on their faces as they picked items.” As Senior, Monica Marquez said, “I’m sad this is going to be my last year helping with this event.” Along with Kris Kringle, two members went to a Kiwanis luncheon and presented about the benefits of DCON and Key Leader.

Christmas Wrapping Natalie Goldstone | Montgomery At the gift wrapping service held at Barnes and Noble, members from Key Club wrapped Christmas gifts for the customers who purchased items from the store. We allowed them to choose what specific wrapping paper they would like for their gift and then expertly wrapped them. There was also a box on the table open for donations from the customers. We wanted the proceeds to go to the Eliminate Project. This project helps babies in third world countries by delivering vaccinations to eliminate the diseases of Maternal and Neo-natal Tetanus. We raised $55 in tips!

Reports!

Local Food Pantry Jessica Aguirre | Cloverdale There were two days last month that the Cloverdale Key Club worked at our local Food Pantry and we had a blast. Key Clubbers were workings with our Kiwanis members and each Key Club member was given a task to do. We were assigned to receive the peoples’ tickets and distribute canned goods to them. As people come through the line, they only get a bag of canned goods once a month; so the Pantry has a ticket system to identify the individuals eligible for canned food in a particular week. We also helped in bringing out more items to the tables and organizing them. We broke down boxes, and returned plastic dairy cartons to the local grocery store. Everyone got along and got work done while making each task fun. It is a really rewarding experience to see how much of a difference we can make with people who really need our help.

Cupcake Wars/DCM/Conclave Natalie Goldstone| Montgomery The joint DCM and Cupcake Wars were held at the January Division Council Meeting. At the meeting, we also elected our new Lieutenant Governor for 2017-18. The Cupcake Wars were a fundraiser for DCON. During the meeting, we were first introduced to some upcoming events, such as Key Leader; and we did some icebreakers to get our energy and excitement up for the day. Then, the LTG-Elect candidate gave a speech on why she wanted to fill that position and the clubs voted. After she was elected, we headed over to join the Kiwanis and have lunch before selling samples of the cupcakes made. During our joint session with them, we played “Kahoot to be reminded of facts about the Kiwanis and Key Club organizations. We also took time to thank them for their wonderful support. Overall it was a fun day and an amazing experience

Ice Skating Fundraiser By Danayeat Abraha| Montgomery On January 20th, our Division held a fundraiser for DCON at Snoopy’s Home Ice, an ice skating rink in Santa Rosa. All you had to do was say you were a Key Clubber, pay $7 and a portion of the money went towards DCON! It was so fun catching up with people I knew from other clubs and making new friends! Considering I hadn’t gone ice skating in a year, it was definitely worth it! I had an amazing time with my friends, and hope we do this fun fundraiser again in the future!
