LTG Message: Hello Purple Dinos and Blue Tsunamis! As school comes to an end, Key Club sure doesn’t! Opportunities for service during the summer are available and of course your home club is welcome to suggest a service that we can do as a region! Also, an email should be shortly received regarding my visitation to your home club, because I sure would love to get to know each and every one of the clubs I serve. All in all, I hope everyone did well on his or her AP/IB/ Final Exams! Hope to see you all soon! With the Love of Service, Harlin Advincula

Club of the Month: The Club of the Month goes to…. MARIA CARRILLO HIGH SCHOOL! MCHS renovated a preschool for Kiwanis One Day and they also raised $200 at a bake sale they did during a Kiwanis Club meeting, which they then donated to March of Dimes! They also helped out during an Easter Egg Hunt that was hosted by Santa Rosa’s Parks and Recreation, held at Howarth Park. They worked at booths, set up, and cleaned up. I am also very proud of having one of their wonderful Key Clubbers as part of the 2015-2016 Division Leadership Team. Congratulations and thank you for all you do. Keep on serving!

The Member of the Month goes to… CODY SHERMAN! Cody Sherman is a member of the Humboldt Homeschoolers Club and is serving as president. It was a pleasure meeting him at April’s Division Council Meeting, and I know other Key Clubbers thought so, too. He has a strong desire for service and for improving his home club. Congratulations Cody, and thank you for all you do! With the Love of Service, Harlin Advincula

Officer of the month goes to…. SOPHIE HAUGEN! Sophie goes to Santa Rosa High School and is currently serving as Vice President at her home club. She has shown so much passion for not only doing service within her home club, but throughout the division. I’m glad that she is part of the 2015-2016 Division Leadership Team, serving as the Secretary and doing an outstanding job! Keep up the good work, Sophie, and thank you for all that you do! With the Love of Service, Harlin Advincula

Summer Activities This summer Region 15 is planning some awesome activities that you’ll all want to be included in! We want to hold 2-3 projects or events each month in order to keep our divisions strong, healthy, and connected. In June and August, we will be assisting at the Redwood Empire Food Bank from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the second Saturday of each of those months. In July, we hope to hold a beach clean-up and a trip to Kiwanis Family House. At our recent DCM, it was decided that we should help with both the Special Olympics Softball Tournament in Napa, and Macy’s Shop for a Cause, both happening on August 29th. We are also scheduling various park cleanups and want to get together at some point to make items needed in the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Just because summer comes around doesn’t mean it’s time to give up on serving our communities; let’s keep up the good work! Maggie Duran D32/20 Summer Activities Coordinator

Eliminate Week Montgomery Our Key Club had a table during Eliminate Week to sell cookies, hot chocolate, and the Mother's Day cards the club had made. Each card had a note saying that the proceeds from the sale went to UNICEF to help to eliminate tetanus in mothers and babies worldwide. The club also sold the cards at the spring drama production. Both events gave the club good visibility on campus. Many of the cards were sold to teachers who attended the events.

Top Fundraising Increases (Based on total funds increased between 1/16/15 and 4/16/15) 1. Capital DistrictUS$1,274,865.48 2. Cal-Nev-Ha DistrictUS$626,866.86 3. Florida DistrictUS$461,796.71

Cloverdale Cloverdale put on a talent show and dinner, and a silent auction, all in one. The talent was amazing. Everyone had a blast. Kiwanis, Key Club, and even Builders Clubbers, teamed up to make this project happen. They also got “sponsors” for the event and honored them on their placemats. At the end of the day they made almost $2,500 that will all go towards the Eliminate Project.

It has been confirmed by the World Health Organization….. we’ve eliminated maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) from Mauritania. UNICEF and its partners have officially eradicated MNT from 36 countries!

Division Council Meeting Held at Snoopy's Home Ice in Santa Rosa on Sunday, May 17th

Our end of school DCM, was at Snoopy’s Home Ice. When the meeting was over, many students either went to the museum or went out ice skating. Some even stayed in the cafÊ and relaxed.

We discussed summer activities that we wanted to do, and briefly went over details about the division t-shirt contest. For more information about the summer activities we will be doing, please look on page 9; and for more information on the division t-shirt contest, please look on page 3.

Remarkable Sick Child Dedicated to Helping Other Sick Children

History Alex, at the age of four years old had already spent three years battling cancer! At one point, the doctors told her that she would never be able to move her legs, but she learned to walk using leg braces. What she told her parents when she came out of a hospital visit at that tender age of four was that she wanted to open up a lemonade stand to raise money to help other children with cancer. In just four years of doing her lemonade stand, she raised over $1 million dollars. Dedicated to raise a cure for kids like her, she died at the age of 8.

Mission To raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, and primarily fund research into new treatments and cures.

To encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.

Club Reports Casa Grande- by Laura Cherrington

Maria Carrillo- by Tejoni Johnson We helped at the Human Race on May 9th,

Two of our members visited the Sonoma County

which was held in Howarth Park. It was a lot of fun

Wildlife Rescue Center to help the staff by pulling weeds

and really inspiring.

As a club, at our meetings,

out of the garden.

They watered the back yard and

we’ve been making pillowcases for the Children’s

garden area, and helped with a public tour of the center.

Miracle Network. We were inspired to do this after

It was pretty interesting, because the members learned

seeing the presentation at the April DCM on how to

from the staff about the facility and animals they care for.

raise a club’s Annual Achievement Report score.

It was fun to see the variety of animals that were there.

We also held a bake sale, on May 31st, at Oliver’s, to raise money for Nepal.

Cloverdale- by Lillian Bearden Our club has been raising funds for Relay for Life, which is happened in our town last month.

We have

been raising money by asking for donations in front of our local market and having a bake sale.

The key to our

success is the number of times we stand out in front of the store.

We were even there the entire Monday of

Memorial Day weekend! Plus, our bake sale was really successful and brought in $300!

We gave our Kiwanis

Club $1000 for the cause, and of course we participated in the event, which was held on May 30th. This is a joint project that we did with our Kiwanis Club.

Santa Rosa- by Sophie Haugen We have started doing a fundraiser for Nepal; and we put mason jars in every English classroom, for the students to donate into. We are planning a banquet for our seniors. We marched with our Kiwanis Club at the Rose Parade and we volunteered at the Human Race.

Windsor- by Angela Chavez On May 9th, we participated in the Windsor Parade. During registration we set up and worked at the sign-in booth and helped every group find out where they needed to go. We held the Kiwanis banner for them and gave out candy, and we also sold See’s candy, popcorn and water to fundraise for the Eliminate Project.

Montgomery- by Daniela Alvarez & Gracie Swartout We sold Mother’s Day cards at our school play as well as at the “Gumption Fest”. Gumption Fest is a school activity set up as an event for incoming freshmen to see the extra-curricular opportunities available to them during high school. Our Key Club had a table set up so that we could gain new members, and so we could fundraise for the Eliminate Project. To fundraise, we sold handmade Mother’s Dar cards, as well as cookies and hot chocolate. We played a great slideshow that showed all the fun service activities we have done as part of Key Club.

Piner- by Mary Nguyen Recently, for the week of and before Mother’s Day, Piner made Mother’s Day cards to fundraise for maternal and neonatal tetanus and the Eliminate Project. Each card cost $2-3. We made over $100 from the fundraiser. In order to have more money for the project, we are currently waiting for our fundraiser idea of selling snacks and drinks at the senior graduation to be approved by the school administration. We are also trying to sell lanyards and bracelets from this point on, and at graduation. For community service, our club volunteered at the Color Me Rad event from 7 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, May 16th. And we also helped with the Cinco De Mayo Festival on May 5th from 6 to 9 p.m. At our last meeting, we held an interclub!

Honoring clubs with 100% on-time MRF submissions: * Casa Grande * Cloverdale * Healdsburg * Humboldt * Maria Carrillo * Montgomery * Piner * Santa Rosa
