Officers Retreat

THE LA TEST F ROM YO UR LTG Hello Divisions 20 and 32! Summer is here! I hope you all are enjoying the days under the sun, BEE sure to remember to plan a service project or two to keep your club active! Your AAR score that is on your MRF will improve with more service projects, officer retreats, and socials within your club, aim for 155 by March! Remember to keep sending in MRFs, even if you do not have anything recorded for that month, use the "Club Snapshot" section to brainstorm ideas for next month! When school is back in session, focus on member recruitment and retainment. The more active, paid members in your club, the more service projects you can do! Aim for serving at least 50 hours per member before March to be considered in good standing. When you acquire more members, be sure to collect dues as soon as possible. Also, begin to advertise Region Training Conference, September 27th-28th, and Fall Rally North, October 18th, to your members. These events are KEY to opening the eyes of new members to Key Club passion and spirit. I would like to award Casa Grande with Club of the Month; they have raised a significant amount for the Eliminate Project and have shown dedication to service even as the school year has come to a close. I would like to award Jessica Barbosa with Member of the Month for her persistence and joyful participation in the Windsor club and in the division. I hope you all are enjoying your summer vacation, and I hope to see you at our next DCM on July 19th at Pudding Creek Beach in Fort Bragg! Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns! Thanks, Dallas Phillips

Member of the Month, Jessica Barbosa, proving her dedication to Key Club at our Kiwanis Governor’s Dinner in early June. She shows truly admirable work and ambitious drive!

SPOTLIGHT ON CLUBS CASA GRANDE In this past month, the Casa Grande Key Club volunteered at the MS Walk, where four members dedicated their entire day to setting up, cleaning up, and helping the event run smoothly. The second event was the local American Graffiti Car Show, where we walked around and sold raffle tickets for some fun prize baskets. All of the money raised from that goes back in to the community; some of the money even goes towards scholarships for high school seniors! Another thing to note is we were also busy making leis to sell at our graduation. Also, our member and LTG Dallas ran the last couple of DCMs and attended the Kiwanis Governor's Banquet. Our Member of the Month is Nicholas Uribe, who not only was one of the members who dedicated his whole day to the MS walk, but attended and volunteered at the Car Show as well! His punctuality and dedication has been much appreciated this month.

HUMBOLDT During the most recent month we held out Mexican Dinner to raise money for the Redwood Coast Teen Challenge. The dinner went extremely well and we raised the most amount of money we've ever raised at our dinners. Earlier that day, one of our advisors and three of our members went to the Kiwanis DCM where they met with our Lt. Governor and our Region Advisor. Our members and advisor really enjoyed meeting them and learning more about what we can do as a club. We also visited three different Kiwanis clubs to advertise for our Mexican Dinner. We also had our Honors Banquet where we retired our 2013-2014 officers and installed our 2014-2015 officers. Finally, we gave out certificates of achievement for service project hours to each of the members.

MONTGOMERY Our club was very busy this past month! In our meetings we brainstormed and planned ideas for next year. The beginning of the month was much more eventful as our members all had finals later in the month. We started off the month with members attending the March for Babies. Our club helped set up the walk and helped with a booth. It was a great event as the people in charge let our members take initiative and make decisions, showing what great leaders they are capable of being. Later in the month as a fun, side project, a few members went to the animal shelter to deliver the blankets and beds made last month. Our Key Clubbers had a great time touring the facilities and transporting the beds. For our final meeting of the year, we had a potluck and discussed the successes and failures of the year. This was a great deal of fun as it gave the officers advice for next year. It also helped us create a better sense of community. Julia Webb, one of our vice presidents, did a phenomenal job this month. She offered to help organize the March for Babies walk and exemplified the ideals of a Key Club member. Overall, this was a successful month. Our officers plan to meet over the summer to plan events for the future in order to have another great year of Key Club at Montgomery High School!

BEACH CLEAN-UP

Fort Bragg Key Club's annual division-wide Beach Clean-Up will be held on July 19th at Pudding Creek Beach. This unifying activity for Division 32 will start at 11:00 a.m. and go until all trash has been collected. The Beach CleanUp promotes environmental awareness while allowing for our division's members to partake in a wonderful beach day and barbecue. This event was started to draw Division 32's services to Fort Bragg, one of our division's west-most communities. Pudding Creek Beach is a part of the California Coastal National Monument and our efforts to help keep it clean are very appreciated by the local community, so don't miss out! -Jose Gaona

Introducing... The 2014-15

Division Leadership Team!!!

(from left to right) Raven Quesenberry, Newsletter Editor; Jessie Marshall, Tech Editor; Jessica Barbosa, Maternal and Neo-Natal Tetanus Task Coordinator; Dallas Phillips, LTG; Thu Dang, Secretary; Helen Hernandez, Division Assistant; and Sue Cummins, Region Advisor

Your division leadership team has met once already this summer, and they’ve been extremely productive and ambitious thus far! They’ve collaborated on making many decisions for the division, specifically in regard to the Officers Training Conference, Fall Rally North, a summer division-wide picnic, and PTP fundraising goals! It looks to be a promising year with these six young ladies pulling the strings!

This summer, we’re encouraging all Division 32 and 20 clubs to begin fundraising for PTP. Our Lieutenant Governor, Dallas Phillips, has challenged us to raise $2200 as a team before Fall Rally North in October. Each club should aim for a minimum of $200 raised.

Are YOU up to it?!

Fundraising Ideas: • bake sale or ice cream and popsicle social • car wash • community fair • auction night • dine and donate or skate and donate • summer concert • bike-a-thon

WHAT IS PTP?

Changing Children’s Lives

Pediatric trauma remains the leading cause of death and injury among children ages 14

and under in the United States.

The mission of our Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) is to develop local projects which will

reduce the number of children in our three-state district who are killed or injured by

trauma, ensuring all children live happy, healthy and safe lives.

The Foundation takes a holistic approach to meet our mission: •

We work to prevent pediatric trauma by providing community outreach, education and materials to children and families living in the communities we share We utilize the knowledge and expertise of our partner hospitals to identify projects the Kiwanis and Key Club family can undertake to address the issue of pediatric trauma We improve the outcomes for children who experience pediatric trauma through our Kiwanis Doctor Program, which provides advanced medical training to medical personnel and first responders throughout our district All of this is only possible due to the generous support of our clubs and members.

When you make a contribution to PTP, you…

• •

• • •

provide grants to our partner hospitals, enabling them to create or expand community outreach programs provide grants to Kiwanis and SLP clubs, enabling them to help more children in more communities provide PTP safety items, which are available for purchase by our Kiwanis family at a subsidized cost
