THE LA TEST F ROM YO UR LTG Hello Divisions 20 and 32! I would like to thank all of you for your dedication so far in the 2014-2015 Key Club year. From seeing your excited faces at DCON to witnessing new officers learn how to tackle the MRF, I am truly honored to be your Lieutenant Governor, and am motivated to continue our RAWRing success throughout the year. Your MRFs look great so far, and I am very pleased with the work your clubs have put forth in the past month. Keep it up, and don't forget to record! As the summer months approach, finals become stressful, and school comes to a close, remember that this warmer season is KEY to providing your communities with service! Continue having meetings throughout the summer; use these months to plan a service project that you can share with new members once school is back in session. Plan an officer's retreat, a social, or even a FUNdraiser selling ice pops for PTP! School may be over; but the need for your service never ends. Every club deserves the "Club of the Month" award; however, Humboldt has been awarded Club of the Month for this month due to their outstanding ratio of service hours to members, their attendance at Kiwanis DCMs, and their motivation to bring more members to Fall Rally and DCON in future years. Although their club is small, they serve countless hours and have just held their largest fundraiser of the year, an annual Mexican dinner, that their entire town is aware of. I would like to award Claire Carter with “Member of the Month” this month; her friendly insight at the May DCM helped others speak up and share their ideas while keeping our discussions productive. She also shared wonderful feedback about improvements of service events and projects, while motivating others to continue to serve. Again, thank you all for your contributions to your community, and remember: I am here to serve YOU! WHY COME TO DCMS?

There seems to be a lack of motivation when it comes to attending DCMs. Our most recent DCM had only 3 clubs in attendance, with 2 of those clubs having only one representative each. Members — and even officers — shrug these meetings off, because they’ve been given the notion that these events are nothing more than long, drawn out meetings where boring adults are just speaking about what seems to be insignificant nonsense to teenagers. Key Club members need to be informed that this is in no way the case. At a real DCM, everyone’s voice counts and all opinions and ideas are carefully considered and even written down. The LTG needs our feedback in order to offer us the best programs possible. Students run these meetings. Higher attendance means more ideas floating around, which means higher success rates in everything we do, not only as a division, but as individual clubs.
At the most recent DCM on Saturday May 17th, we had representatives from Cloverdale, Piner, and Casa Grande meeting with our Lieutenant Governor, Dallas Phillips. They discussed reopening the Leadership Team task coordinator positions as well as the upcoming Kiwanis Governor’s visit, Officer’s Training Conference, the Beach Clean-Up, the division t-shirt contest, and holding division-wide PTP Awake-A-Thon in October.

Division 32 T-Shirt Contest 2014-15 o The mascot must be a dinosaur. o The colors must be purple and yellow, accented with black, white or gray, or one other color. o The design must NOT be created on a commercial site, because those sites do something which prevents the design from being used by anyone but them. o The division number and all the clubs in the division must be listed on the back. Make sure that they are all correctly spelled and in alphabetical order. If you need to contact Dallas for a list of the clubs, e-mail her at…..hiitsdallas@gmail.com. o All entries are to be e-mailed to Dallas no later than midnight on Thursday, June 26th. NO late entries will be accepted. o All entries must be displayed on two 8 ½ X 11 paper-size pages, (one page for the front design, and one for the back design). Design pictures should take up at least ½ to 2/3 of the page. o The choice of the winning t-shirt design will be made by the students assembled at the Officers Training Conference on June 28th. o A club representative will be given TWO votes to cast for their club when at this event. It will be up to the club representatives to gather votes from their members and determine the best way to cast their club’s two votes. Both votes do not have to be cast for the same design. This way, if the club is divided, the votes can be divided.
This past month, our division-wide event was with March For Babies, a highly influential organization dedicated to the healthy birth and care of premature babies. “We help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. If something goes wrong, we offer information and comfort to families. We research the problems that threaten our babies and work on preventing them.” This year, our division came together to raise close to $1000, exceeding our LTG’s goals for this fundraiser. Great work everyone!
Our Cloverdale club raised $700 through many months of hard work at various bake sales. They really know how to dedicate and walk the walk!
March of Dimes Experience On Saturday, April 20 , 2013 several Key Clubbers from Montgomery, as well as a few Key Clubbers from other schools attended March for Babies . It was an enjoyable experience to help. Members from our club arrived early Saturday morning to help set up the event. It seemed very well organized. All of the booths were standing, and in place. We simply helped with some finishing touches with set up. Some Key Clubbers were assigned to work at the food booth, where we set out pastries, fruit, and coffee. We also distributed flavored water to each booth, and filled tubs of ice with the water. All of the adults who worked the event were very nice and helpful, yet they allowed us to make decisions on our own, which was nice. The environment was lively and energetic, with the help of a good DJ. Our booth was busy up until the walk began. We were also able to cheer on the walkers, which we enjoyed. It was a cause which our club was happy to support, and everyone had a fun time participating. All in all, it was a great opportunity for our Key Club members and a successful event. Eliminate Week has come and gone, but our division is still working towards our goal of eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus from the earth. Two clubs in particular did an excellent job these past weeks! Read what they have done, and what they plan to do:

We have begun a “One Dollar for Life” campaign at our school. The goal of this is to collect $1 from every student at our school; since we have such a small student body, (400 teens), we are pushing for $2 from each student. We have been going around to businesses and asking for donations, as well as collecting donations outside of our local grocery store. We plan to sell wristbands that say, “I Saved A Life” for a $2 donation. We have also been going to other adult service organizations to ask for donations, (Lions Club, Soroptimists, and Rotary). It was during Eliminate Week that we kicked off our ODFL campaign. By the first week of June, with all our combined efforts, we hope to end up with $2,300 minimum. We know we can do it. We’re at $1800 right now.
We are going to be selling Ozark lollipops. They are all natural and we expect to raise at least $300! During Eliminate Week, the club was wellinformed, but we were unable to do anything except make plans….but we got a great start! Depending on how well the fundraiser goes, we may simply continue to do that, and donate a certain portion to the Eliminate Project, keeping some back for other causes.
