Just for Fun
• The core values of Key Club International are: • Leadership • Character Building • Caring • Inclusiveness
By Anahi Ruiz, President of Cloverdale Key Club Hello, our amazing Key Clubbers! I just wanted to tell you all how proud I am of you. The Crab Feed was a huge success, and I want to thank you all so much for being there when we needed you! You were incredible; and we even broke a record by making $1,887 in tips! Now on another note, we are quickly approaching the end of 2017 and starting 2018. This upcoming year is going to bring new opportunities for all and open a new path for you in Key Club. District Convention, also known as DCON, is coming up in April; and although that seems a little far away, I really want to emphasis the importance of fundraising to go to Reno. DCON is an fabulous experience that you will never forget. You meet other Key Clubbers just like you; and they come from all over California, Nevada and Hawaii! For those who don’t know, that is what the acronym CNH means. We are the CNH Bees; and bees work together to change the world and make it more beautiful. I love you all! And remember, the world is full of possibilBEES!
By Gene Lile, President of Kiwanis Club of Cloverdale We cannot underestimate the impact that our Kiwanis and Key Clubs have on each other. Working hand-in-hand has enabled both clubs to accomplish much, including projects such as Eliminate (maternal/neonatal tetanus) and, presently, Save the Rain. Year-after-year, Key Club has been instrumental in assisting Kiwanis on several of our critical fundraisers: Crab & Pasta Feed, Mother’s Day and Kiwanis Vineyard Races. Without Key Club’s help, it would be very difficult for our Kiwanis Club. There are other invaluable experiences in working together, and it’s hard to measure the benefits of working side-by-side, in an adult-to-student relationship. Kiwanis members can model character building traits like, self-discipline, problem solving in teamwork situations and leadership skills. Kiwanians can also instill confidence in young Key Clubbers. In reverse, Key Clubbers can teach Kiwanians to be fearless of new challenges, to express ourselves freely, and to see everyone as being equal. As you can see, learning works both ways! The Cloverdale Kiwanis – Key Club connection is stronger than ever. Much of the credit is attributed to the leadership of both clubs over the years. But, one person cannot be overlooked in building this important connection, and that is Sue Cummins. She has spent many years and countless hours developing students into caring, compassionate service leaders. Congrats to you, Sue, for your devotion and in making a difference in our community and the world!

November Shine Day By Rowan Addison On the last Friday of November that school was in session, Key Clubbers and the Special Day Class met in Mr. Schmidt’s classroom. We made Thanksgiving treats. We used Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, icing, and more to make little edible turkeys. We all had lots of fun, and can’t wait to do another activity in December with the Special Day Class.
November Recognition MEMBER OF THE MONTH We want to honor Gonzalo Perez as Member of the Month because, having just joined this month, he has already attended a Kiwanis DCM and has helped at numerous events. We are very happy to have him as a member of our club, and know that he will be very active from now on.
OFFICER OF THE MONTH For the month of November, we want to honor Andreina Inda as a very active Board Member of the Month. Even though she’s not an officer, she is part of the Board and she has put a lot of work into bettering the club and improving her leadership skills. She has been particularly helpful with our Save the Rain project.
Our Club Website By Alex Visconti The Key Club website is super important and every one of you reading this should go on it at least once a week. To get the website Distinguished, one of the criteria being judged is the traffic going through it. On the website, there are pictures of you, your friends, and others. So, go on there to see fantastic pictures of yourself! There is also information on the website of upcoming events and you can RSVP on there, so we know who is going to a particular event. And if you need to contact a member or officer, the information is there, as long as you go onto the “Members Only” page. If you haven’t been cleared for that, just fill out the request, and you will be allowed access to that page. So again, please go on the website at least once a week, and check out the information and pictures there as much as possible!
Christmas Make-a-Wish
Cloverdale’s Christmas Make-A-Wish By Neidi Calvillo On Friday, December 1st, we took four Key Clubbers to Walmart to shop for Make-A-Wish. We were shopping for three children, two girls and one boy. We separated into pairs and each group took a girl’s wish list. We found most of the items that the children requested, and we had fun doing it! When we were finished, we all contributed to finding the boy’s items. We even went under our budget with everything that we had bought! It was a fun event; and I think our club should definitely do it again next year!

By Rowan Addison On December 2nd, we helped with the Kiwanis Crab Feed. That Saturday we had over 400 people come to feast on crab. We had to set up extra tables for all the people coming in. Each Key Clubber either had two small tables or one long table to serve. We served salad, pasta, bread, crab, and finally cupcakes for dessert. Then, we helped clean-up and break down chairs and tables. It was a very busy and fast-paced night, but we all had fun.

Lions Club Toy Run By Anahi Ruiz The Lions Club Toy Run was a success. It was an amazing event that took place at the Citrus Fair on December 3rd. We had five Key Clubbers attend. The first thing we did was wait until the bikers went on their rides to get toys; and then we started to set up the tables for them to eat when they got back. We helped collect the lunch tickets, and we also gave out plates for lunch. We served a wonderful meal and the very last thing we did was help break down the tables. This event helped collect a lot of toys for children whose Christmases were made magical because of what the Lions Club did. I am so proud to have been a part of this effort, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Secret Santa Pals Thursday, December 14th Bring gifts to Kiwanis mtg. 7 a.m. at Zini’s Diner
Secret Santa Pals By Yatziri Ruiz The Secret Santa gift exchange is done between our Kiwanis and our members. Whoever wishes to participate within both groups may, and no one will be excluded from enjoying our exchange of gifts. What happens is that our wonderful advisor hands out slips, if we wish to participate, and has us write down 3-4 things we want as a gift. Of course, it does have a price range from $10; but it's extremely worth it, and affordable. Our Kiwanis give gifts to us, and we do so, too; and best of all, it’s all in secret. We don't know who got our name, and they don't know who will be giving them their gift. It’s extremely fun to just watch the surprised looks and see the generous gifts that were received or given. Lastly, some Key Club members, at times, give and receive more than one gift, since we always have more Kiwanis members wanting to participate than Key Club members.

December Board Meeting
Food Pantry By Uziel Ruiz Helping our Kiwanis in the Cloverdale Food Pantry is fun thing, and it gives you community service hours. It's a fun event to attend. We pack food in bags and get them ready for the people who come for them. Often, we help pass out the food; and it's especially nice when you go with your friends, because it’s a lot faster that way and you will have more fun with more people. Working in the Food Pantry is one of those projects where you get to directly see how you are helping people. Because we’re in school for most months of the year, we don’t have that many chances to help at the Food Pantry, since the open hours are 1 – 3 p.m. on Friday afternoons. But, in December, we can actually be there for two of the weeks!
Friday, December 22nd & Friday, December 29th 1-3 p.m. Corner of 2nd & Commercial St.
Disneyland Donation Drawing By Uziel Ruiz For the Disneyland Donation Drawing you will be able to win a two-day trip to Disneyland with another person. You will be able to purchase a ticket for $5. If you want an even greater chance to win, you can get four tickets for $10 or ten tickets for $20! This is a really good deal because you have a chance of winning tickets for much less than you would have purchased them for. And it's going to be a two-day Park Hopper trip for two people in Disneyland. The tickets available on Facebook and you can find flyers around town to see where we will sell them and how much they will cost. Tickets will also be sold at Mail Center, Etc.
This calendar contains only the basic, required activities. At this time, we can’t add other events until we know more about the timing on the birth of my granddaughter‌sorry!

Seeds of Learning By Alex Visconti Seeds of Learning is a non-profit organization started in Sonoma County with the goal of helping kids in Nicaragua and El Salvador attend school. They build schools, provide scholarships to send the children to school, and promote cultural understanding. Cloverdale Key Club is going to help raise money for them and use t to sponsor kids and send them to school. It can either be an elementary school kid for $250, a high school student for $500, or we may consider some other suggestions for what to do with the money we raise. The first meeting of the committee to decide how we’ll raise the money is on Thursday, January 11th; and the meeting will be at lunchtime. We hope you can make it and bring all your wisdom and care with you!

Put the date of Tuesday, January 9th on your calendar and come to this meeting. Between the Disneyland Donation Drawing, and the Grease Movie Night, and the Citrus Fair Flat Exhibit, we’re going to need EVERY member to help, in some way! Let’s all focus on this project and get behind our efforts to help save the children who need us!
We’ll start making plans in January. This will be a joint project with the Builders Club and Kiwanis!
Movie Theater Event By Anahi Ruiz For the last couple of months, the Cloverdale Key Club and Kiwanis have been planning a terrific event; and we can finally announce that it will be one of the biggest fundraisers for our Save the Rain project. The event is actually a movie night that will take place at the Clover Theater on Saturday, February 3rd. We will be showing Grease and the tickets will be $35 each. We encourage the people attending to dress up in fifty’s style clothes; it’s going to be a lot of fun! We will be serving finger food and unlimited wine, for those over 21. We will have limited spots available so buy your tickets as soon as you can! Since this will be something mostly for adults to attend, what will our role be in helping it to be a success? We will be spending a lot of the month of January selling tickets! So “bone-up” on your knowledge of the Save the Rain cause, and come out with our selling groups to help make this be the special event we’re hoping it will be!

You meet and make friends with students from three states. You stay in a hotel room, and shouldn’t, but probably will, talk half the night. • You get dressed up to go to a dance with hundreds. • You hear some pretty fabulous and motivating speakers. • It’s fun! • • • • • • •
