This child is dying from being born into unsanitary conditions. It’s excruciating to be touched, to see light and to hear sounds! $1.80 could have saved this life!
ELIMINATE WEEK May 7 - May 11, 2018
Worldwide Every 15 minutes, a newborn baby dies from tetanus. It is excruciating, and parents can only watch. The baby’s sensitivity to light, sound and contact prevents even the comfort of a mother’s touch. You can help protect that connection. Since 2010, Key Club members teamed up with the entire Kiwanis family and UNICEF to help save and protect women and their future babies from tetanus with The Eliminate Project. Through “The Eliminate Project”, the Kiwanis family is changing the world. To date, we have helped save and protect lives by eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) in 24 countries. This year, Key Club International is projecting to raise US$700,000 as part of Key Club’s US$3 million pledge to The Eliminate Project. You can help meet that goal by participating in The Eliminate Project Week from May 7 to May 11. Let’s help finish the fight against tetanus and protect mothers and babies from this deadly, but preventable disease!
Make it Known Monday Did you know that 34,000 babies die every year from tetanus? Work with your club to better educate your school and community about maternal and neonatal tetanus. Host a trivia game during your club meeting, share facts on your school announcements, post “Did you know? questions on social media. Find up-to-date facts on the last two pages of this newsletter!
Toss It Out Tuesday On Tuesday, encourage your members to give up something they frequently buy (i.e. a cup of coffee or a cookie at lunch). With the money you save, you can make a small donation to The Eliminate Project! Every dollar counts. Or, consider “tossing out” items or clothes that you don’t need. If you’re able to sell them at a resale shop, donate what you earn to The Eliminate Project!
Why It Matters Wednesday Monday was all about educating your club and community, but Wednesday is about showing the impact of our fundraising efforts! Share Kiwanis videos with your club members and help them understand the effect of The Eliminate Project. 93 babies die of MNT every day, but Key Club and Kiwanis’ fundraising efforts are saving and protecting lives.
Throwback Thursday On Thursday, post a throwback photo for mothers and babies affected by maternal and neonatal tetanus. Share a photo of any projects you’ve done to raise awareness for mothers and babies who are affected by tetanus. Here’s a sample post: #TBT of my club working to #elimin8 #tetanus. Did you know tetanus steals the lives of 93 babies every day? Help me and Key Club International prevent this deadly disease by donating to @EliminateMNT https://secure.qgiv.com/for/kifeli2/
Fundraiser Friday It’s all been leading up to this! To protect moms and babies from MNT, we must raise money! Use the last day of Eliminate Week to set up a fundraiser for The Eliminate Project. Be creative! Do a “Cookies for Coins” sale; or do a “Spring Cleaning” of your closets and sell the items. Use your imagination and don’t forget to spread the word about the cause!
