Redwood Empire Food Bank Day Once a month the Key Clubs of Division 32 go to the Redwood Empire Food Bank and do any work that they have for us. We sort cans, bag food, and box up assortments of food to be distributed to the needy. They keep you busy and the time just flies by. Afterwards, we usually hold a DCM, which tends to be accompanied by free food, and we discuss upcoming events. I have a great time hanging with my friends and I get to help my community at the same time. By Nick Schneider If Nick’s message makes you want to attend, the next Redwood Empire Food Bank Day is July 12th. Meet at Cloverdale High School at 8 a.m. and plan to be home around noon. If you want Starbucks, bring some money.

Major Emphasis Project-Eliminate For those of you who don’t know, “Eliminate” is a Major Emphasis Project that Key Clubbers around the world fundraise for. On the topic of fundraising, here are the fundraisers we have done and the ones we plan to do. Our club held a campus-wide fundraiser with an ice cream party for the class that raised the most money, Our goal was to raise $800. We actually brought in $915! We asked the only other club on campus to help with the cause and they donated $400. Key Clubbers went to the Soroptimists and to the Lion’s Club; Soroptimists gave us $200, Lions are giving us more, too. We just don’t know how much, yet. Key Clubbers also went to local businesses and asked for donations, those who donated got framed certificates of thanks. We raised $330 that way! “I Saved a Life” wristbands were sold at various places, including at Friday Night Live. Altogether, we raised $2300 for such an amazing cause! The best part is we aren’t done yet! This fall and over the summer we are planning on selling more “I Saved a Life” wristbands. There is also another campus-wide fundraiser in the planning stages. More businesses are going to be asked to support the cause. Last but not least, our club is participating in Trick or Treat for UNICEF on Halloween and asking for donations at various places around Cloverdale. Overall it has been a great year for the Eliminate Project! Fundraising at Friday Night Live Helen Hernandez with Soroptimist President Patti Robarts.
June Board Meeting Recap On June 11th, all the wonderful upcoming Key Club officers gathered at our advisor Sue Cummins’ house to plan the year ahead. We also made baked treats to auction off at the next morning’s Kiwanis meeting for Relay for Life. The officers crawled through a 3- hour long meeting of upraised hands and growling stomachs. However, many ideas were shared and new improvements to our club meetings are in
Jessie Marshall speaking at our Board Meeting
On several Friday nights, at Cloverdale’s summer Friday Night Live event, there is a booth and a couple of service-crazy Key Clubbers selling See’s candy and asking for donations for the Eliminate Project. The See’s candy profit goes towards the individual Key Clubbers, most certainly for ICON, (International Convention). Donations for the Eliminate Project come from the selling of “I Saved a Life” wristbands.
Lorena Yanez was a trooper and manned a Friday Night Live booth by herself.
We Relayed for Life! This summer on June 21st, we participated in Cloverdale’s annual Relay for Life. To raise money our club had a bake auction at our local Kiwanis meeting and sat outside of Ray’s. We raised a whopping $975.
the foreseeable future. We all want to be the best officer team, so we agreed that suggestions are to be embraced with open arms. But we didn’t just work, fun was also planned; swimming, movies, campfire, and s’mores. A Message from our very own President Hello everyone! My name is Alayna Lorence, President of Cloverdale Key Club. I came into this club not knowing what to expect, but I am glad I was welcomed here, much like the rest of you. My goals this year are not much different from last year’s, but I want our club to be more in touch with the rest of our Kiwanis family. This means our members getting to know the Kiwanis and Builders Clubbers. I want all of us to learn what it really means to be in this family that comes together to serve; to let each and every member be able to learn for themselves what Key Club means to them. I believe that if more of our members are educated in the core of what makes up Key Club, then they will be able to find it. Our club has a full Board this year and I am excited to work with them. We will work together to serve you, our members, this year. I also would like every Cloverdale Key Club member to know that I may be the representative of our club, but I am here to serve you. I would love for members to come to me or any of our Board members to voice any complaints, comments or concerns they have throughout the whole year. We are all here to serve our community. The better we work together, the more we will accomplish. I know that this year will be a great one and this family we have created will give much back. Thank you for taking the time to read this and see you in our future service projects and meetings!
Our Kiwanis Bake Auction for Relay for Life brought in $610. Here we are that morning at the Kiwanis meeting, and here is a happy Kiwanis member with some of the items he bought.
